My Visit to Washington, D.C.
By Laura Widener
Last summer I had the opportunity to visit my son, Austin, in Washington
D.C. while he was interning for Senator John McCain. I had never been to
our Nation’s Capital. Austin is
a senior at Methodist University
in Fayetteville, NC. Funny thing
is that we are Catholic! That’s a
whole other different story. Austin
loves history and was a great tour
guide. Austin did clerical work plus
gave tours to visitors and VIP’S for
Senator McCain’s office. I was able
to have access to the underground
tunnels that run from the Capitol
to the House of Representatives
and all the other Senate buildings.
Of course, I was chaperoned. Two
days before I was leaving to head
back to Florida, Austin said that it was his turn to make a dessert for John
McCain’s office. I knew where this was going as he gave me that look! I said,
“Alright! I’ll make Turtle Brownies.” Off to the subway to the local store. I basically
had to buy everything because Austin was just renting a room while in D.C. The
brownies came out perfect. Austin brought them to the office the next day. I met
Austin at Senator McCain’s that same day to say goodbye to the staff. Austin’s
boss came up to me with Austin by her side and wanted to know if Austin made
the brownies or me. Austin gave me the eye to say “no.” I looked at her and said,
“yes I cannot lie, and I did make the brownies.” Austin said, “Mom everyone lies
in D.C.” We all started to laugh. His boss said that she thought the brownies were
too perfect for Austin to have made them. That was the give away. I received
compliments from Senator McCain as well. If you have never been to D.C., you
have to go. It is remarkable!

Ruth’s Success Story
Ask Dr. Sheldon
Let’s now add the crown to the crown preparation.
In 1999, I had four dental implants placed at a teaching college. The implants were great for ten years.
Q: I have a failing 8 unit fixed bridge in the front of my mouth. I had a root canal done through the bridge. I also have
decay beneath the adjacent tooth. How long can I wait before I replace the bridge? If I need dentalRoot
implants, can I have
a fixed temporary bridge while waiting for the implants to take?
Ten years later, I developed some soreness around one of the implants. I made several trips to the teaching
college, but I was not able to get the problem resolved.
Answer: Dear Mary,
I consulted with Dr. Sheldon and we decided on a procedure to relieve the discomfort. Dr. Sheldon thought
that he would have to remove the offending implant. But on the day of the procedure, as we studied the xrays and other media, Dr. Sheldon and his staff decided on a procedure to relieve the pressure around the
post. One small operation resulted in complete success and my pain was gone.
Hats off to Dr. Sheldon and his excellent staff of assistants.

Now let’s extrapolate to the entire bridge. The original bridge looks something like this,
correct?
Hi, my name is Donna
Mucha and I have just
completed, or as Dr.
Sheldon
would
say,
graduated as an implant
patient.
I researched dental implants
and got 2 opinions for my
particular problem. I wore
a lower partial and also
have what is known as tori
(protruding bone) that the
partial liked to painfully rest on. My options were
surgically remove the bone or implants.
My consultation with Dr. Lee Sheldon & Laura
convinced me that implants would be the way to
go. The procedure was remarkably painless and I
was awake & only had sweaty palms once or twice
J. My teeth feel & look very natural and all of the
care & expertise made it worth the wait. The staff
always responded to my concerns, particular thanks
to Jennifer Ashley & of course Courtenay.
This would not be complete without a very special
thank you to Dr. Jennifer Chace & her assistant Kristi,
who so patiently & professionally made sure I had
the perfect bite & fit. You are both wonderful!! Kristi
even came in on her day off to do an adjustment.
Now let’s extrapolate to the entire bridge. The original bridge looks something like this,
correct?
Now let’s add the hole for the root canal. It is not unusual for weakened tooth structure
to fracture over a period of time with continued use.
Thank you,
Donna Mucha

Lilly- Cat of the Month
Lilly is a SUPER sweet spayed
Cornish Rex. She looks like a
kitten (is only 5 pounds) but is
14 years old, but she is VERY
healthy. She is very friendly
with all people and loves
attention. She loves to curl
up on your lap and have her
tummy rubbed. She is very mellow and never bites
or scratches. Since she is a cornish rex, she does
not shed very much. She was brought up with dogs
but probably does not get along with other cats. If
you would like to adopt her, please call Eleanor at the
office or email her at [email protected].
