People First Dorset: This is an exciting opportunity to work with a user-led disability charity
in Dorset. We support people with learning disabilities to speak up and lead change. Find

We are a small, dynamic and creative team, running a variety of different projects, including
the Friendship Club. You will be able to work your hours in a flexible way, to be agreed with
the Project Manager. You will have access to a pension plan and the use of a very pleasant
office, 2 miles north of Dorchester.

Purpose of the job:
You will support our team of Quality Checkers volunteers (people with learning disabilities)
to visit a range of services and write reports about their experiences.
The Quality Checking project is ‘on the up’, and needs to be able to respond to increasing
demand from a wide range of care/support service providers. You will be given training and
support to learn about the project and its aims, whilst also being encouraged to use your
own initiative, creative thinking, experience and expertise.
In order to apply you must have the following:




Excellent planning, organisation and communication skills.
Full driving licence and access to a car.
A strong commitment to teamwork, demonstrated by an ability to both lead and to
listen. Our team is a mix of people with and without learning disabilities.
A positive outlook: Quality Checkers are not inspectors. We exist purely to help
services to improve.
You will:













Support our team of “Quality Checkers” volunteers to visit learning disability services
in Dorset (not including Bournemouth or Poole) and to write a report about each
visit.
Work with the team to write reports and make recommendations to service
managers.
Type up the reports to a deadline, using our existing templates.
Develop and promote Quality Checkers, so that it becomes a self-sustaining venture.
Work closely with our members, staff team and trustees.
Train new team members as-and-when, using our existing training programme.
Develop good relationships with managers, support staff and ‘service users’.
Update our website and Facebook page with your news and reports.
Report to the Project Manager and trustees.
Use your creativity along with the ideas of the team to ensure that Quality Checkers
is a dynamic, forward-thinking, challenging and self-sustaining project.
Maintain confidentiality.
Not have any particular allegiance or investment in a particular care service provider.
Because of the nature of the work, we must be completely independent and
impartial. Any conflict of interest must be declared on your covering letter.

Future:
This is initially a 12 month contract, although there is a possibility that this could be
extended, depending on how successful the Quality Checkers project proves to be. There
may also be opportunities to work on other projects, depending on your skills, experience,
and the work that may be available.
