Skillsoft/SumTotal Workshop | Aligning Your Programs to Organizational Goals for Maximum Impact
Many practitioners struggle with the issue of alignment. They know it is important, especially to their senior
leaders, but they have not found a practical way to get it done successfully. Consequently, it becomes difficult to
secure funding (particularly repeat funding) for good programs.
Join us in the Alignment Workshop to explore what senior leaders really want to see and to learn how to achieve
and demonstrate strategic alignment. We will begin with alignment of a program or initiative to a single goal, then
explore programs and initiatives in support of multiple goals, and finally examine alignment at a department level
to all organizational goals. Theory and practical guidance will be followed by case studies.
This workshop is designed to improve your business acumen, make you a better and more strategic business
partner, and increase the impact of your programs. You will learn how to:
•• Align programs and initiatives to organizational goals
•• Discuss alignment and expected impact with senior leaders
•• Show alignment and expected impact in reports
•• Manage the alignment processes

Skillsoft Strategy: Dawn of the Self-Developing Organization
Employee engagement is the #1 issue facing every C-suite. CHROs are being challenged like never before to bring
new solutions to the table that simplify rapid skills development and deliver data-driven results. Every HR function
entrusted with developing talent must step up. Clunky old practices of treating talent content and talent platforms
as separate, disconnected solutions will not work in a world where millennials now make up 50% of the workforce.
Welcome to the dawn of the Self-Developing Organization – a ground-breaking new Skillsoft approach to talent
acceleration emerging from the fully integrated capabilities of Skillsoft and SumTotal. The foundation of the SelfDeveloping Organization is a deeply integrated content and engagement platform that knows, entices, improves
and rewards employees. Learning occurs naturally and contextually as part of, rather than apart from, the
daily flow of work. As radical as the self-driving car, the Self-Developing Organization is the industry’s first truly
integrated solution to accelerate individualized employee development at scale by tightly integrating:
•• Rich talent profile for each individual drawn from a full array of HCM modules including third-party
•• Big Data algorithms that identify hidden patterns in content consumption at enterprise scale
•• Hyper-personalized learning plans that dynamically adapt to each employee’s own journey
•• Analytics for directly quantifying the business impact of learning
The sum total of these innovations means you are witnessing the biggest advance since “e” was added to
learning.

Designing Your Business for the 21st Century
The companies that thrive in the near future will be the ones that not only embrace change but are the first to
break the rules. If you could start with a clean sheet of paper, how would you design your company? Should your
youngest staff member be making coffee or running your R&D team? Is Big Data something for your IT department
to worry about, or a weapon to be wielded by your management team? Do you ban social networks or use them
to collaborate more effectively?
According to Mike Walsh, most companies are simply not designed to survive. They become successful on the
basis of one big idea or breakthrough product. That early success then becomes a rigid code, and as customer
habits and markets change, many fail to see that everything that made them successful is exactly what will destroy
them later. You will learn:
•• What it takes to recruit, retain and motivate tomorrow’s employees
•• How to transform employee engagement by hacking your corporate culture
•• How to leverage enterprise social networks to solve real business problems
•• Why the multicultural web of tomorrow will be different from the one we use today

Skillsoft | Integrating Technology and Learning for the Learner
Learning is not typically top of mind for leaders which makes reporting on learning and development resources,
such as Skillsoft, extremely important. At Humana, the team had an initial vision to demonstrate to leadership that
their investment in learning and development resources are worth the money spent. In order to accomplish this
goal they needed to make learning fun and easy to find in order to increase adoption and have reportable data.
This included integration of the various learning resources into one location for one-stop shopping and the debut
of the IT Fall Learning Meet, where learners can race each other to different levels of learning prowess. During this
session attendees will learn about:
•• The implementation of a consolidated search tool for learning resources
•• Gamification of learning through Humana’s Fall IT Learning Meet, a contest for people to reach different levels
and receive prizes just for learning
•• A different way to look at the tools available and ways to partner with their IT departments to maximize
resources and make learning easier for the learner

Skillsoft/SumTotal | Are You Ready for When Millennials Take Over?
Whether we are ready for it or not, the future of business is here. It’s a future in which organizations must learn
how to move faster, flatten their hierarchies, share more openly, and operate more digitally. And although many of
these changes are a direct result of the Millennial generation shaking up today’s workplaces, it’s much bigger than
that. This new era goes beyond generations--and requires leaders from every generation to learn new ways of
working, leading, and managing.
In this session, authors and thought leaders Jamie Notter and Maddie Grant will share research, case studies and
lessons learned from their newest book, When Millennials Take Over: Preparing for the Ridiculously Optimistic
Future of Business that identify the four key capacities that must be developed inside organizations to successfully
adapt to this new reality. It’s not about simply “dealing with Millennials”-it’s about working with them to design
organizations that thrive in today’s environment and understand how to drive deep engagement with both employees and customers in a new way. During this session you will understand:
The key drivers of the Millennial generation, not in an attempt to “deal” with them, but to understand how their
perspective is relevant to the broader changes we face leading and managing organizations in today’s environment
The importance of digital, clear, fluid, and fast in creating organizational cultures that will thrive in the 21st century
Some practical ways to start shifting the culture of your own organization by changing processes and facilitating
new behaviors among employees from all generations.

Skillsoft/SumTotal | Succession Management: Filling Talent Pipelines Means Crafting a Revised Lease
on a Critical Management Practice
Succession management is likely the most important element in ensuring business continuity. As validated in
Brandon Hall Group’s 2015 State of Succession Management study, many organizations do not believe their
organizations are doing enough to address the identification and development of leaders and other critical talent to
address today’s unique workforce profile and complex business challenges. Worse yet, they are not confident they
have the right practices in place, nor know what they are, to select and groom tomorrow’s most qualified talent.

The changing fortunes of the Fortune 500 will tell you that no company has a guaranteed place at the top.
Keeping up and staying ahead of the game depends entirely on continuous and sustained innovation. We all know
that’s true, but what do company leaders have to do to make it happen? Sir Ken Robinson has worked with some
of the world’s leading creative organizations – in the corporate, educational and cultural fields. In this presentation,
he identifies the three myths about innovation that hold many organizations back, and the basic practices that
drive the most innovative organizations ahead of the pack. He presents a three-tier strategy to generate “systemic
innovation” across the whole organization. He then identifies the three core roles of creative leaders to make this
happen. Takeaways include:
•• The need for “systemic innovation”
•• The relationships between imagination, creativity and innovation
•• The three levels of systemic innovation
•• The basic roles of creative leaders

Skillsoft | Building a Talent Pipeline with Certifications
Recognizing a need for a flexible training approach that supported multiple learner preferences, provided
access to remotely located employees and supported diverse learner needs, Booz Allen developed a strategic
partnership with Skillsoft to offer blended learning programs to prepare employees for the CEH, CISSP, ITIL,
Network+, and Security+ certification exams. The programs are designed around a virtual facilitated classroom
supplemented by Books24x7, self-paced resources, including elearning courses, practice exams, mentors, and in
some cases virtual office hours. Booz Allen leverages virtual classrooms to reach a broader audience and increase
the number of certified employees. This use of virtual and blended delivery formats provides a cost-effective and
cost-saving alternative to traditional classroom instruction. Its popularity, and above industry certification exam
pass rates, are a result of the format of the program, which allows staff to engage in training outside of core
business hours. During this session attendees will hear:
