The Rules & Regulations for 2015 have been updated and circulated. This document addresses items such as animal control, noise bylaws, and what’s permitted on your campsite. If you are in doubt, please check the Rules + Regs, or speak to the Attendant for clarification. The Community Fire Pit was finished late last fall, and was christened during our Winter Wonderland activities. It was a real hit and is available for camping groups to use this summer. Bring your own marshmallows and guitar! There are several Weddings booked at the picnic area this summer, beside the Gatehouse. When you see the wrought iron stands and sign, you’ll know the area has been reserved. No vehicles should be parked in this greenspace or along the road during reservations. 2015 Special Events: The Annual Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour will stop at Last Duel Park on Saturday and Sunday June 6th and 7th, 2015. This bicycling event, which is sponsored by the Ottawa Bicycle Club, has been visiting Last Duel for many years, where riders take a halfway break to purchase food/drinks from our local service clubs, use the port-apotties, have a rest break, or in some cases, to start the half-tour event. The whole tour runs from Ottawa to Perth to Kingston and return. The Perth Kilt Run is returning to Last Duel Park! On Saturday, June 20th, the world’s largest recorded foot race of kilted runners will take place in Downtown Perth. In an effort to log the 8km on a scenic route, parts of Last Duel Park have been incorporated into the run. The race begins at 6:30pm, and over 2000 runners have registered for the race. Police and volunteers will be on-site to assist with logistics during the run, and please note that vehicular traffic will be restricted until the last runner passes through the Last Duel leg of the route. Campers are asked to plan ahead if they need to leave or drive through town during the race. On July 17th, 18th and 19th, the Stewart Park Festival will make for one of the busiest weekends all summer. The special Festival Camping Package will continue - check in at the Info Booth at the festival and mention the 2for-1 special for campers, and you can receive 2 After Hours passes for the price of one. The Emerald Ash Borer is an ongoing problem, devastating ash trees throughout North America. A Ministerial Order has been enacted by The Canadian Food Inspection Agency under the Plant Protection Act to restrict movement of all ash materials from any tree species in the regulated areas. Lanark County is not a regulated area, but campers are prohibited from bringing in/ taking out firewood from the areas of Ottawa, the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville, Prescott/Russell and the City of Gatineau. Materials include, among other things, firewood of all tree species. The Town of Perth does not sell firewood at Last Duel Park, however, if campers are interested in having firewood made available for purchase, please advise the Park Attendant. This is something the Town would be willing to consider in the future. For information on the Emerald Ash Borer please see www.inspection.gc.ca/pests. The Community Garden: The Table Community Food Centre (Food Bank) Community Garden is now going into its 3rd season at Last Duel Park. It is continually expanding to meet the needs of our local Community Food Centre. Feel free to speak with any of the garden volunteers about participating, or for information on their community events. As in past years, Last Duel Park staff and Food Bank volunteers will work together to ensure that camping is not disrupted by gardening activities. The garden area will be kept tidy and tasteful, and visitors will be required to follow rules on parking, hours of operation and washroom usage.
