Thursday, April 9, 6-8 p.m. Opening Ceremonies, short films and Maryland
Premiere of A Flicker in Eternity by Ann Kaneko and SharonYamoto.
This critically acclaimed film is a coming-of-age tale of a gifted teenager, Stanley Hayami, who
is torn between his dream of becoming a writer and artist and his duty to his country.
Friday, April 10, 1-4 p.m. Special Program with Renowned Photographer & Filmmaker,
Craig Herndon — "What Is News? Most Black Men Are Not Criminals!"
Friday’s program features a short video, Honey Child, and a performance by renowned
photographer and filmmaker, Craig Herndon. His noteworthy film, “What Is News? Most Black
Men Are Not Criminals!" draws on Herndon’s 30-year career as a Washington Post photographer
whose work is also featured in Time, Newsweek, Life, and People magazines. Herndon will join
esteemed area photographers Sharon Farmer, Jahi Chikwendiu, and Andre Chung to discuss issues
raised in the film. Program Moderator is Matthew White, Executive Producer of The Beatles Live
Project.
Saturday, April 11, 1-4 p.m. Student Film Program & Awards Presentation
Saturday's Student Film Program showcases the next generation of filmmakers, with films by
students from Prince George's and from across the United States. This program includes a 10year retrospective, Gava/Gate@Heritage:Videos from Mr. Geo's Animation Workshop. The
Student Film Program concludes with the Student Awards Ceremony for outstanding student
films.
Programs of the 10th Annual Heritage Film Festival are free to all, but attendees are
encouraged to bring nonperishable food items. Collected food will be donated to a local Prince
George's food pantry.
The Heritage Film Festival is a project of IN VISIBLE COLORS and 6 Hearts in partnership with The
Prince George's County Memorial Library System and The Creative Edge Studio Collaborative. The 10th Annual
Heritage Film Festival is sponsored in part by The Prince George's Arts Council and The Maryland Film Office,
Maison de Jacqui, and local vendors.
