PLATTEVILLE REGIONAL CHAMBER
Hello Members!
With the incredible warmer weather and well-needed rain,
southwest Wisconsin is just beautiful! We are already seeing
an increase in visitor traffic which is unusual as we usually see
our guests starting to arrive late in May and early June. This
increase is good!
National Tourism Week will be celebrated from May 2nd-10th and we are celebrating it with our Kickstart to Tourism “Derby Day” event. We are partnering
with Nick Pease who has been instrumental in organizing this music festival with
a Kentucky Derby theme. A horse parade will take place at noon with live entertainment beginning at 1:00PM in the downtown area between Main/Mineral/3rd/4th Streets.
Platteville High School Prom goers have been invited to Katie’s Garden for a photo session and reception. We look forward to this every year.
On Tuesday, May 5th, we are hosting an open house/picnic luncheon from 11:301:30PM at the Chamber offices/Travel Wisconsin Welcome Center. There will be a
short program from 12:15-12:45PM. Please join us as we celebrate what our area
has to offer and as we share the latest economic impact information delivered by
the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. We will also hear about the Department of
Tourism’s “Travel Green” program which is very exciting as our Chamber/grounds
are Travel Green certified. Please try to join us!
On Wednesday, we are hosting the Wisconsin Ag Tourism Association’s (WTA) education presentation which will be held from 1-4PM at the Tech Center at the Pioneer Farm. This event is free and open to the public. The Chamber is working on
a plan to host an ag-tourism expo in 2016 and the WATA will be a great partner.
Officially, our Travel Wisconsin Welcome Center is open seven days a week from
now until the end of October. Our hours will be Monday-Friday – 8AM-5PM,
Saturday from 9AM-4PM and on Sunday from 10AM-2PM. We will be monitoring our visitor traffic and make adjustments if needed to meet the needs of those
visiting Platteville.
Our Platteville Welcomes You committee is geared up and ready to greet newcomers to the community. If you have a new business colleague or neighbor that
has moved to the area, please let us know as we would love to welcome them
and help them acclimate to our community. We are encouraging all members
to contribute items (pens, pads of paper, coupons, coffee mugs, etc.) for the gift
bags that are presented to the newcomers along with a TON of community information. It’s a great way to showcase your business to these individuals moving
into our town. We present 50-75 bags a year. If you have questions, please call
Sheila at the chamber – 348-8888.
I would like to extend a very warm ‘thank you’ to all of our Katie’s Garden volunteers. It is through the efforts of these tireless volunteers that Katie’s Garden is
absolutely gorgeous and a destination for many! Katie’s Garden cleanup day was
a great success!
