Rugby at Central Coast Grammar School begins another excellent year. We will be fielding four teams in the ISA Division 2
competition, with four teams this year in the prep IPSHA completion with the under 9s 10s 11s and the Prep 1sts ready to play.
The ISA Division 2 and Prep draws are included in this Newsletter and as with last year the ISA teams will play 5 home and 5
away.
All of us at CCGS ( Staff, players and parents) must work hard
to maintain our respected standing in ISA Division 2 and continue to support and promote our aims in the sport.
I wish all the boys who are representing the School, playing
Rugby, a safe, successful and enjoyable experience this year.
Next Tuesday 28th April, the 1st XV is playing Beaulieu College
from Midrand, just north of Johannesburg, South Africa. The
boys would appreciate the support of every student of CCGS,
coming along to enjoy what is going to be a clash of two of the
best Rugby nations of the world. The game will begin at 3.45pm
on Rugby 1.

PREP RUGBY 2015
Dear Prep Rugby players and families,
Well done to all teams on the positive start to the season. It has been great to see all
teams training well.
On behalf of the coaches, managers, parents and players I would like to welcome
the Under Nine players and their families to CCGS Prep Rugby. We hope you have
great season developing new skills and strengthening friendships while learning
how to play rugby and having fun. Enjoy the season!
Please find the season’s draw on the back of this page. All four teams are listed and
the row on the bottom reading ‘ISA Rugby’ outlines when the Senior Rugby fixtures
being played (home or away).
In case you have missed the School or Rugby Newsletters thus far the Prep Rugby
Teams are coached and managed by the following:
Under 9s - Mr Steve Dunstan (coach and manager)
Under 10s - Mr Jason McGarry (coach), Mr Peter Moroney (coach) and Mrs
Sarah Deacon (manager)
Under 11s - Mr Tim Cusack (coach) and Mrs Sonja Holden (manager)
Prep First XV - Mr Brian Rees (coach) and Mrs Kylie Venner (manager)
Prep Rugby will also be assisted by several senior students again this year. It
is fantastic to see older students helping out. I know Junior School Rugby
players really enjoy having them as part of training.
Thanks in advance to you all for your time and efforts for the season ahead.
Prep Rugby will be using VTeams again this year as a way of communication. You
will be receiving a text from your Team Managers when it is up and running advising you of games times, maps and general information.
Training is on Wednesday afternoons starting from 3:15pm finishing between
4:30pm - 5:00pm (as communicated by your coach).
Players are to bring CCGS Rugby kit, mouth guard and boots.
Have a great season,
Mr Luke McLoughlin Prep Rugby Convenor

North American Tour
CCGS Rugby sent 19 players to the USA and Canada. The squad
were to play 3 games, in Los Angeles, Vancouver and lastly in
Comox, on Vancouver Island.
The boys enjoyed each and every opportunity to play, however
with the very tight schedule, practice time was minimal.

Game 1 v Stern MASS (Mathematics and Science School)
Rio De Los Angeles Park (Taylor Field) …….. Los Angeles
Tries: McGuinness 2, Fortey,
Henderson-Foley, Brown.
Goals: Henderson-Foley 3
What a start to the Tour. We arrived to warm up and there was
no opposition. We weren’t even
sure of where we were playing.
The park area was empty (except
for a few skate-boarders and walkers). Then the Yellow School
Bus arrived and out poured these man-mountain Rugby players!
Certainly Not! But yes, they were the opposition.
The game begun with a loss of possession, a feature of this
game. Our defence was tested with opposition running Channel
1, pick and drive, with their centres running back to link with
their big forwards. They played their game plan extremely well.
We were tested—again and again. Our first try came from a regaining of possession ball from a well constructed ruck.
Stern scored, and we returned for another 5 pointer. 12 to 7 at
the end of an extremely hard half. Ball control needed to be better as well as tighter scrummaging.
The second half was a repetition of the first. However, jet-lag
began to disappear! Ball Control. Ruck and maul Control. Belief. The team began where it left off at practice last term. Yes,
the MASS players really wanted to win. CCGS won their first
game on tour through shear determination and skill, backing up
out wide. A good start.
North American Tour
The weather was menacing with thick cloud and rain threatening
at the premier Rugby Park in Vancouver.
The first half began with a breeze at
our backs.
Phase play was excellent, with the
forwards combining very well with
skill and attitude and the backs
chiming in to attack at every opportunity.
Tackles were hard and the
bigger Collingwood boys
were not sure what was
happening to their game
plan. CCGS took them up
front and scored 3 decisive
tries, each a combination
of backs and forwards.

Game 2 v Collingwood School Capillano Rugby Park, Park
Royal, Vancouver
Tries: Robson, Henderson-Foley, Webb 2, McGuiness, Dickinson, Baines. Goals: Henderson-Foley 5
Strong defence was always turned into decisive attack.

CENTRAL COAST GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Running into the wind with showery conditions in the second
half should have been an advantage to Collingwood. Not as far
as the Tourists were concerned.
The continuity of the first half was the order of play and continued in the second half.
Not a defensive lapse. If a tackle was broken there was always
another Green and Gold willing to take them on. There were 4
scintillating tries in this half.
Again the combination between backs and forwards was devastating and to watch smaller boys overpower bigger boys was
marvellous.
This was the best game on tour. The boys have now overcome
the nerves of being in a team with different players around them.
Confidence is beginning to flow. Skill and Ability are
developing very nicely.
The team really appreciated the support given by the other students
who were available to watch such a memorable game.

Game 3 v G.P. Vanier School Comox Vancouver Island
Tries: Robson, Henderson-Foley, Webb 2, West, McGuiness,
Fortey 3, Cooney, Bastick, Baines, Tancred. Goals: Henderson-Foley 8
In this game, the opportunities
presented themselves and the boys
took them. The Vanier team, although out-muscled and being less
skillfull never gave up and
showed sparkle and skill at times,
especially in the second half.

Players from both teams learned a great deal from this game.
The CCGS players will need to take the experiences given and
learned in this, and the previous games, into the 2015 ISA season. Each boy will have to use every bit of knowledge to help
their team mates grow as much as they have.
