ALC Flex Field Trips!
By Brittany Bonacci
Usually school field trips are just going for a
drive to some destination, but here at the ALC
it’s a completely different scenario. When we
go on trips during the school year, it’s the same
thing as any other school, but we’re different
because we have trips in the summer time,
sometimes out of the state.
Our school will be going on school field trips
during the year to Orlando, Florida, where the
people who are able to go can go to Disney
World. And the next trip will be to Washington, D.C. The date for Orlando will be somewhere around January 28th until February 5th,
and the dates for Washington, D.C., will be
somewhere around May 12th through the 20th.
Then we have about three trips during the summer. These trips we’ll be going to South Dakota, Duluth, and Chicago.
no talking about sex, parties, alcohol, or drugs;
it has to be school appropriate talk. Act respectfully to the teachers/ staff, no yelling or
swearing at the staff members. You are not allowed to wander off by yourself; you need to
inform your teacher. Cell phones and headphones rules are the same as when you’re at
school also.
There are rules because the school is trying to
keep everybody safe. They’re trying to make it
a fun and exciting learning experience for everybody.
If you have anything lower than a 60 percentage of passing classes, you are disqualified
from these trips. If you are passing at exactly
60%, you can qualify to go after an interview
process. Anyone who passed 80% or more of
their classes is automatically qualified for these
trips, no questions about it. Dave will be looking at the five previous terms before the trips
to see who can be considered to go and who
cannot.
Take advantage of these exciting and fun opThe rules for these trips are basically the same portunities, and come on some of the trips!
as the rules at school. You have to participate,

9/11: A Day to Remember
By Jose Cabrera
September 11, 2011, The day that changed
America forever. A day we will never forget. A
day that changed a lot of people’s lives.
Ten years ago, Al-Qaeda, a terrorist group,
hijacked four airplanes and planned on attacking America. Out of the four airplanes, two of
those hit the Twin Towers and ended up collapsing later. Another hit the Pentagon, and the
fourth one crashes in a field in Shanksville,
PA.
People were horrified
for others; some had
family that worked in
those towers or in
those hijacked planes.
Rescuers tried to help
the people that were
trapped in those buildings but the damage
had so much impact
that the exit stairs were destroyed from the fire
caused by the fuel. People watched as it got
worse. Firefighters were trying their best they
could when they got word that they had to get
out of there because the towers were about to
collapse. There were no exits for some people
trapped so some ended up jumping off the
buildings until they hit the ground.
Approximately 3,000 Americans died that day.
Families were in pain knowing that they lost a
relative. People were crying for their lost ones
and they will never forget such a day like this.
It left a big scar on America.
Ten years later, on September 11,2011 people
take a moment of silence and remember their
lost ones, as they will always remember ten
years ago, when they experienced a gruesome
scene like that and hoping that they will never
go through that again.

SUMMER
FLEX:
CHICAGO
By T.J. Scholl
The Chicago trip
was a new experience and a good one. We went to Chicago
for student council leadership. We talked
about the upcoming school year and how
could we become leaders and planned what
we wanted to do for the whole year.
We also went site seeing: we went to Navy
Pier, Chinatown which the food shops
smelled nasty, and we went to Little Italy
were we ate at a nice restaurant. The hotel
we stayed at
in the theater
district and
our hotel was
extremely
nice.
We had the
chance to fish in the river for free. Even
though I didn’t catch anything, it was fun.
We walked everywhere the first day and a
lot of people’s feet hurt; but thank goodness, we took the subway around the city
the second day.(Thank you, Dave.)
Overall it was a good experience and we
had lots of fun.

South
Dakota
By T.J .Scholl
The South Dakota trip
an adventure. We got
to see some pretty cool stuff. What I got from
this trip was better understanding of American
history and got to experience some historical
places.
We went to the Badlands and walked across
them. Isaiah and I went down a really steep cliff
and were jumping from hill to hill. I also didn’t
know that there were rattle snakes down in the
Badlands and until we got back the van.
We traveled on the Needles Highway which was
really cool and we stopped at a park and had
launch. Then after we could go and climb the
rocks. Again Isaiah and I went cliff climbing.
We climbed all the way to the top of this cliff
and we could see the whole park and lake from
up there. It was an awesome sight.
On the second day we went to Mount Rushmore
and got to walk right underneath the mountain
and we went into the museum and learned many
interesting things.
Overall, it was an awesome experience and fun
to hang around with some of the students and
teachers for a week.

Game Shows
By T.J. Scholl
This class was fun, but it also taught us the
importance of team work. Without team
work, whatever your doing
would fall
apart and
wouldn’t be
very successful.
Not only did we play games, but we also
watched games shows such as Wipeout,
Family Feud, Jeopardy, Deal or No Deal,
Let’s Make a Deal, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Are You SmarterTthan a 5th Grader?,
and Minute to Win It.
We also got served breakfast and lunch
everyday for two weeks. (Thank you, Dave
and Lauren.)
