24th April 2015
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Year 11 Study leave and exam arrangements 2015 (beginning Wednesday 6th May at 10.30am)
As you are aware we are nearing the time when Year 11 students start Study Leave and approach their
GCSE examinations. The aim of Study Leave is to provide our students with the greatest opportunity to
revise and prepare to the very best level for the forthcoming GCSE examinations. To maximise the benefits
of this remaining time, there will be a school revision programme for all Year 11 students which will
provide students with staff-led revision sessions in the lead up to the examinations themselves. It is
expected that students attend these sessions as this will create the opportunity to ask questions, check
with staff etc and that this will provide further support with home-based revision. There may be other
revision sessions on offer to Year 11 in addition to this programme which will be arranged within
departments accordingly.
A copy of this programme will be given to the students and will also be available on the school website in
the Year 11 area. The rooms for these revision sessions will be posted onto the Year 11 ‘Signing in/out’
board so that your daughter knows where she should be for each particular session. Year 11 Study Leave
2015 begins on Wednesday 6th May from 10.30am onwards. On this day students will be expected in
school for the morning, in full uniform, and will have a celebration altogether before starting their Study
Leave at home. Please ensure that arrangements have been made for your daughter to be collected by
10.30am.
All Year 11 students have already had a copy of their examination timetable and this provides them with
the details of what the paper is, when it is to be sat and where it will be sat. They will also receive a
briefing from Mrs Newbold, our examinations officer, next week to remind them of the examination
requirements and procedures. Students are expected to be in full school uniform when they come onto
the school site, whether for a revision session or an examination.
Arrangements for Study Leave and the examinations in terms of ‘signing in and out’ will be the same as for
the mock examinations last term. Each student is required to sign in when they arrive for a revision
session or an examination and to sign out when they leave. This is so that we can keep track of who is on
the school site. In light of this, we would ask that you sign the permission slip to give your consent for your
daughter to use her study leave in the manner suggested above.
In terms of timings of examinations, a general rule of thumb is that a morning examination would require
your daughter to be ready and in the dining room by 8.40am and for an afternoon examination, by
1.20pm.
It is expected that all students ensure that they are ready for these times and should have locked away all
valuables and belongings, gone to to the toilet etc. Students who have ‘Special considerations’ may have
slightly different timings and rooms for their examinations and they will be told these directly. As these
examinations are the ‘real thing’ it is absolutely vital that all students sit them even if they are feeling
under the weather. In relation to results day, details of how to collect examination results will be
provided in a letter during the examination period and will also be posted on the school website. If you
have any questions over this examination period please do not hesitate to contact your daughter’s form
tutor or me.
My tutor team and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over the last 4 years
and to say that it has been a real pleasure to have worked and supported your daughter through to Year
11. We wish Year 11 the best of luck in their GCSEs and look forward to seeing many of them return to
Presdales in the Sixth Form.
Yours sincerely,
Jane Fry (Mrs)
Head of Year 11
