Do you like to be with others? If so, let’s start a group dedicated to enjoying photo walks or photo shoots at various locations. I have some ideas for places to go and I’m sure that others have some favorite spots as well. Shall we meet to discuss some logistics and schedule our first outing? If you can’t make the organizational meeting but would like to join us please call Sue Murdock 689-5560 or send me an email at [email protected]. We all fought major winds and rain—a miserable outing. Each week we have had more players now that we are in season. We have also increased our playing field with several first time players. All men living in Lexington are eligible to play. You must have a handicap on file which usually requires five rounds of play. Signup sheets are in the pro shop one week in advance. If you have any questions you can call Bill at 851-4636. Call or e-mail Hy Weiner ([email protected]) to receive weekly information and sign up details. Our next outing is January 24. There will be no men’s 9 hole play on January 30 and 31, due to the Couples’ Club Championship. The Handicap Corner Player Manipulates Round The Handicap Committee must adjust or withdraw the Handicap Index of a player who manipulates scores. (See Section 8-4f.) Examples of manipulating scores include the following: (a) Posting erroneous scores; (b) Stopping play after 6 holes to avoid posting scores; (c) Repeatedly playing more than one ball to avoid posting scores; (d) Not adjusting hole scores under Section 4; (e) Deliberately reporting more or fewer strokes than actually scored; (f) Deliberately taking extra strokes to inflate a score. (g) Posting scores after the revision date to manipulate the player’s index. (vi) Continued violations of Section 5-1f. The Handicap Committee is responsible for identifying and notifying a player who regularly violates any provision within Section 5-1f that such rounds are unacceptable for handicap purposes. If the player persists in violating clause(s) within Section 5-1f after being notified by the Handicap Committee, the Handicap Committee is authorized and encouraged to consider withdrawal of the player's Handicap Index. Handicap Index Withdrawal The Handicap Committee must withdraw the Handicap Index of a player who repeatedly fails to meet the player responsibilities under the USGA Handicap System. Before any action is taken, the player must be advised of the information available to the Handicap Committee and be invited to respond to the Handicap Committee either in writing or by appearing in person. A withdrawn Handicap Index may be reinstated under conditions set forth by the Handicap Committee. (See Decision 5-2a/4.) The Lexington Country Club Golf Advisory Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month (October through May) at 2 PM in the Wedgewood Room of the main clubhouse. The purpose of the Committee is to advise the Board of Directors and the General Manager, on all golf related activities, to further maximize profitability, and to encourage the game of golf and related social activities for the entire Lexington Community The responsibilities of the Committee include: * Recommend policies, rules, and regulations for the use of the golf course and related golf operations. * Interface with Men's, Ladies, and Nine hole golf associations to ensure their needs are being met * Identify services desired by the membership and present suggestions to the GM and Board of Directors, to improve use, owner acceptance, and revenues from the golf course. Golf Tip At our clinics and golf schools we have observed that on the practice putting green at least 50-60 % of the golfers aim too much to the right. Needless to say this can cause all sorts of problems. Very rarely will you ever see a touring professional’s alignment be off that much. One reason is because they align the writing on the ball with the intended line of the putt to insure they have their putter square to the intended line. Some professionals go a step further by drawing their own line on the ball to enhance their alignment. So if you are having trouble lining up your putts, try lining them up in this manner and chances are you’ll find yourself sinking more putts. * Make suggestions to increase sales in the golf shop * On a regular basis, meet with the GM and Director of Golf, to assure full support for all golf events and related social activities. * Complete special projects as assigned by the Board of Directors. In order to accomplish the above, each neighborhood within Lexington has a member assigned to the Committee to represent their neighborhood’s ideas and interests. The members/representatives of the current Golf Advisory Committee are as follows: * Jim Andrews (Waterford) current Secretary * Ray Johns (Wedgewood) current Chairperson * Ramona Massari (Estate Homes) * Pat Patterson (Villa Homes) * William Siewertsen (Lake Village) * Bettye Strother (Ladies Golf Association) Tennis Men’s Night Out is coming up on Thursday, January 24 at 5:00 pm for any men interested in joining us. We will play 3 rounds with different partners and opponents until the pizza arrives courtside for dinner. Signup sheets are on the bulletin boards or call us at 985-1817 to sign up. On Sunday, January 27 at 10:00 am we are having a pool party and mixer for men and women of all levels of play. We will be having a cookout at the pool with hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad etc after play for those interested. Sign up on the courtside bulletin boards or call us to sign up. * Jim Nuchereno (Director of Golf Operations) * Kris Kinkle (Assistant PGA Professional) * Bob Kidwell (Board of Directors Liaison) Questions, comments, ideas, and suggestions to enhance the golfing experience at Lexington are invited and highly encouraged. Correspondence should be directed to the appropriate community representative in sufficient time for the Committee to address and respond to each member in a timely manner. Your inputs are crucial in maintaining and improving one of our community’s greatest assets. The Hackers Lexington Men’s League is starting again on Friday, January 18 with 5 teams. The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896. There were 311 male but no female competitors. The two types of serve returns (of first and second serves) should not be treated the same in any way. While returning first serve is a matter of avoiding being on a defense as the point begins, on the second serve return the player should think a lot differently. 1. From a mental perspective you must understand that your opponent is tense getting ready to deliver the second serve. He now realizes he just missed the first serve and failing to deliver the second one will cost him a point to your advantage. Not only that but if his serve does not have enough "juice" on it (spin, depth) you could be taking control of the point. On average, you breathe 23,000 times a day. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Sommerset Villas: Michael Martin & Lynn Keeley Wildwood Crest, NJ 2. On a technical aspect, pay attention to your opponent's tendency of delivering the second serve: is he hitting it hard or slow? Is he applying good spin on it - what kind? Does he usually hit it deep or short into the service box? This kind of information can help you decide where to position on the court for the second serve - inside the baseline or on the baseline? Also it can give you clues whether you can attack it with your strong wing or not. 3. From a tactical point of view, is he trying to deliver the second serve to any of your weak sides, deep into the court or is he just…. getting it in? Try taking these notes during the first two receiving games. As a general rule, be aggressive with your second serve return! That doesn't mean you should try to hit winners off of a return; instead take the ball as early as you can (move forward) and preferably hit it to your adversary's weak side. By being aggressive and attacking the second serve you will put a lot of pressure on your opponent every time he will miss his first serve. Mentally you should realize that an upcoming second serve is your chance to take control of the point from the start of it. Use your strong wing to hit the second serve return as often as you can. I never knew a wood stork sat like this. Burnham once said; ".'I can't do it' never yet accomplished anything: 'I will try' has accomplished wonders". Now how does that apply to your fitness program? Fitness; Seize the day and start today! There’s no time like the present to get started on that new fitness program or get back to your fitness program. Once you've committed to getting in shape, there are several things you can do to ensure you'll exceed your short and long term fitness goals. Write your goals down and post them somewhere you'll see them every day. You're more likely to stick with a program when you have set specific goals. Always eat a well-balanced diet that includes ample servings of vegetables and fruit. Assess your current fitness level before starting an exercise program. You'll be able to establish goals that meet your specific fitness needs. Talk to your health care provider before embarking on a fitness program, particularly if you are struggling with a health condition such as diabetes or obesity. Always stretch before and after your exercise routine. Make sure your muscles are warm first! Don't over do it! Slowly increase the intensity of your workouts. Diversify your workout routine. If you do the same exercises day after day, you'll quickly tire and may hit a plateau. Work out with a friend. You'll help motivate each other. Class Changes, Updates, Reminder: Effective Immediately, in an effort to better accommodate our members and fairness, the Circuit Training Class on Tuesdays and Thursdays will now start at 1:15 PM and run through 2:00 PM. The circuit, like all classes, is on a first-come, first-serve basis and you will not be allowed to sign up before 1:00 PM nor are you allowed to sign up for other members. Please respect these rules and keep the classes fair for all. Please be on time for all classes, arriving late puts you at an increased risk for injury as you miss out on valuable warm up time and are a disruption to the class and your fellow exercisers. Please remember that all classes are on a first-come, first-serve basis which means you MAY NOT reserve a spot in class nor may you enter an ongoing class to do so. If a class is in session, please wait your turn and DO NOT disrupt the class in session. Thank you. Cindy Lee has returned with her ballroom dancing program. Last but not least, we've all seen the news reports and this is one of the worst flu seasons on record. If you have anything more than a runny nose, PLEASE, PLEASE stay home.
