While doing hands-on activities, such as Pop Hero Engines, Egg Drop, and Racing Against Friction, students will learn about Newton’s Law of Motion, altitude, velocity, acceleration and much more! Friday, June 19, 2015 – In House: 3..2..1..LIFT OFF!! A fun look at what makes rockets fly & and how we get to space & back. A hands on rocket launch experience done with completely safe materials. Junior Engineers - Mechanical Engineering (Ages 5 & up): Many children dream of being an astronaut and traveling to space. Space Adventure Series created an entire unit around space! Students will learn about real-life space exploration and build a new model related to the NASA space program. Models include a satellite, a lunar module, a centrifuge, which astronauts use to prepare for the physical sensations of launch, a treadmill which astronauts use to stay fit in space, and a “space robot”. During this unit, students will learn some of the science behind sending things into orbit, will hear about the most distant man-made object in the universe, and discuss what it is like to be an astronaut in space. Are you a budding astronaut? An adventurer who loves space exploration? Then you’ll love our space theme projects. We’ll be building NASA astronaut training equipment, a space robot and more in this exciting three-week session. Let’s launch your imagination to outer space and beyond! Apprentice Engineers - Lego Robotics (Ages 7 & up): Using motors, sensors, software and LEGOS! You’ll learn how to design and program your Robot that can perform all kind of tasks! Windstorms software lets you place icons in sequence to design the commands you want. Students work in teams to learn basic programming logic, make enhancements, and work on increasingly complex and programs. Two students per robot, per laptop. COME SEE WHAT WE'RE DIGGING UP! Page Museum – After we excavate ice age creatures outside, we bring them inside the Page Museum. It’s where our best fossils are on display and you can watch paleontology in action. Week 3: June 29 – July 2 Stars, Stripes & Obstacle Course Learn about our Presidents and the history of the United States of America! Join the pottery class and create your own pottery with Art Instructor, Mrs. Tngrian. STEM Education, Bricks for Kidz Junior Engineers & Apprentice Engineers - Stop Motion, Kinder – 8th Grade Lights, cameras, legos, computers, software, and your creativity combine to design, create, and film a stop action mini-movie. Working as a team, students will plan, script, and use LEGO components to build the set and props and then shoot their movie using a camera. Teams will use movie-making software to add special effects, titles, credits, and more. Participants will take home a DVD of their movie creation. Thursday, July 2, 2015 – In House: Obstacle Course Come join us for our Red, White & Blue parade! All American donut eating contest, water can squirt game, and 4th of July Extravaganza games. Parent participation welcome! Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens. Experience the world of Minecraft with Lego bricks in this fun summer camp! Kids will start by crafting their shelters and some of the mobs, critters and tools using Lego bricks. Students will face new crafting key elements from the popular Minecraft game. Week 5: July 13 - July16 Music & Drama Festival - Learn about Beethoven, Mozart and more! A self-guided museum tour immerses students in a cutting-edge experience -- complete with interactive exhibits, films and artifacts designed to explore the historical, cultural and social context of music. Upon entering the museum, students are engaged as they learn about the creative process and the art and technology of recorded sound. Week 9: August 10 – August 13 STEM Education, Bricks for Kidz Junior Engineers & Apprentice Engineers - Minecraft Legos, Kinder – 8th grade Friday, August 14, 2015 – Portable Planetarium We bring the Universe to you. Upon entering into our portable planetarium, you will gaze into the starry nights to see stars, constellations and galaxies. Using special effects with lasers, music & slides, our programs teach astronomy & the Solar System. Junior Engineers - Life Science (Ages 5 & up): It’s a zoo in here! 2 weeks of Life Science Program sure to delight kids who love creatures. We’ll be building models of snakes, insects, mammals and more. Each day we’ll discuss fascinating facts about the animals we build, from the chameleon that changes colors to the seal model that waddles across the table. Hands-on demonstrations, specimens, and student involvement enhance the educational experience. Each program is tailored to the grade level and interests of the class. During this lesson, even the timid are transformed into doctors! Learn about the many different types of fish, following up with an actual dissection of an ocean fish. Week 8: August 3 – August 6 STEM Education: Moon Rocks, Curriculum created by NASA Instructed by Director of Primanti Montessori, Mr. Paul Martinez Student will have an experience of their life time! Various Apollo Missions brought back lunar rocks, students will have hands on experience with authentic Moon Rocks borrowed by NASA only available this week. You don’t want to miss this! Friday, August 7, 2015 - Griffith Park and Observatory Southern California’s gateway to the cosmos! Visitors can look through telescopes, explore exhibits, see live shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, and enjoy spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign. Learn about famous athletes and what it takes to become one…end the week with a STEM Education , Bricks for Kidz Junior Engineers & Apprentice Engineers - Stop Motion, Ages 5 & up Friday, August 28, 2015 - Water Slide Students will enjoy various outdoor water activities featuring an inflatable water slide - it’s a wet n wild play day at the Primanti playground! Students are requested to come to school in their swimming attire, sunscreen lotion/spray applied and ready for daytime water play.
