Our Mission - An interactive community of lifelong learners dedicated to achieving individual potential March 3, 2015 | Page 2 Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and School Trustee Visit Prince Charles Last week our school trustee, Mrs. Freddy Latham, visited Prince Charles during our Matthew’s House Starbucks coffee fund raiser. She took part in our fund raiser and then student council was able to give her a tour of our great school. Some of the items on the tour were First Nations’ art projects, gymnastics and ski program, heritage fair and earth day projects, and library Learning Commons and the Lego/Multimedia room. Our students did an amazing job of showing her the fantastic learning occurring here at our school. On Thursday, student council welcomed our Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Kevin Godden. During the tour he asked them many questions about their learning and what it meant to them. Student council did an excellent job of answering these questions and demonstrated that they are learning much. Mr. Godden was so impressed with what he saw at our school that he requested Mr. Gino Bondi, Assistant Superintendent, to come check out Prince Charles. On Friday, Mr. Bondi came and spent some time speaking with Mrs. Hiebert, who is piloting a new electronic portfolio program called Fresh Grade, and to check out our Learning Commons in our library. He too was impressed with the amount of great things happening for children at our school. I would like to thank the staff and students for showcasing the best of Prince Charles to our guests. Mr. Goddden, Superintendent w/ leadership team members. Planning for Next Year… School Writing Goal This year our staff has been working hard at increasing students’ ability to write. We have seen great student progress. Check out our progress by going to the following website: http://princecharles.sd34.bc.ca/sites/default/files/Scho ol%20Wide%20Write%201st%207%202nd%20Term %20Comparison%20Graphs.pdf You can also click on school goal on our website (http://princecharles.sd34.bc.ca) under about us to see this data. Class Placement Requests for Next Year As we approach June, we are preparing to build classes for next year. We would like to give our parents the opportunity to put forth any requests they have for placing their child in a specific class. In preparing this formal request, we would ask that parents give specific reasons for making this a priority for their child (i.e. what 'educational' reasons support the request?). This provides us with another piece of 'data' when we try to complete the complicated puzzle of building classes together. We try our best to honour these requests, but there may be times that other factors (i.e. class size and composition) have a greater impact on the placement of a child in a class. We would ask that all parents support our staff in the final decisions that are made when classes are built. It is very important for all our students, parents and staff to start the year with a positive outlook for success. All requests should be in written form and addressed to Mr. Friesen at the office. Along with your requested teacher for next year and educational reason, please include your child’s current teacher, grade, and division. Please note that the grade teachers will teach may change. It will be dependent on student enrolment. Mr. Bondi, Assistant Superintendent w/ leadership members.
