This Day in History
The worst economic crisis in U.S. history (to that time). Stock prices
plummeted, major railroads went into receivership, 15,000 businesses went
bankrupt and 15 - 20 % of the work force was unemployed. Within seven
months, over 600 banks had closed.

Cy Young of the Boston Red Sox tossed a perfect game against the
Philadelphia Americans. The final score was 3-0. No player on the Philadelphia
team reached first base. It was the third perfect game ever thrown in the big leagues.

Girls
When my daughter said her bedtime prayers, she would bless every family member,
every friend, and every pet (current and past).
For several weeks, after we had finished the nightly prayer, Kelli would say, "And all
girls." Soon this closing became part of her nightly routine.

Ranching
A Texas rancher was visiting an Iowa farm. The Iowa farmer was very proud of his
two hundred acres of rich, productive land.
"Is this your whole farm?" the Texan asked. "Why, back in Texas, I get in my car at
five o'clock in the morning, and I drive and drive all day. At dusk I am just reaching
the end of my ranch."
The old Iowa farmer thought a while and replied, "Yeah, I used to have a car like
that too."

Man Funny
When men are born, their mothers get compliments and flowers.
When they marry, their brides get presents and publicity.
When they die, their widows get the life insurance.
So, tell me: why is it “a man’s world”?
Low German Word of the Week: toopschoawe: a) look cross-eyed b) push someone
