Entrepreneurship mostly remained identified with business and industry but entrepreneurship in the farm sector holds a paramount importance in a country like India where main occupation of people has been agriculture for ages. Despite concerted industrialization, agriculture in India still occupies a place of pride. Except from a small group of resource rich farmers who quickly adopt modern techniques of production majority of the farmers are still struggling with hand to mouth situation and are not motivated to take risks. The yields and production of major crops has reached to a plateau and there is a very little scope of their increase. As a result growth in income from agriculture is meagre whereas cost of inputs is sky rocketing day by day. Due to these factors young farming generation is losing interest in agriculture and migrating to urban areas for jobs. This alarming situation has forced the policy makers and agricultural scientists to think about how to attract and retain the youth in agriculture particularly small and marginal farmers. Entrepreneurship development thus has become one of the most relevant topics of current agricultural scenario. It is imperative to bring transformation in rural areas by developing agri-enterprises, increasing the income of the farmers and making them entrepreneurs to pave the way for an evergreen revolution. Keeping these factors in mind, a summer school on “Entrepreneurship Development Programme” for the extension faculty of the country is planned with the following objectives: 1. To develop knowledge and skill among the Extension Scientists about various techniques of entrepreneurship development among the farming community 2. To impart knowledge to the Extension Scientists regarding upcoming entrepreneurial fields, challenges and strategies Course content (Lectures, practical classes, panel discussions, video films and visits will be covered under following broad themes) 1. Essentials of entrepreneurship development 2. Attributes of good enterprise and entrepreneurs 3. Entrepreneurship development techniques 4. Various avenues in agriculture 5. Challenges of enterprises 6. Motivation for attracting and retaining youth in agriculture 7.
