It might not look like it now, but years ago
Plain City was home to many Amish families.
The first group of Amish moved to Plain City in
1896. Over the years, the Amish either moved
elsewhere or accepted progress, but Plain City
is still home to around 400 to 500 families of
Amish and Mennonite descent.

located next to our Bakery. The shop has
many delightful surprises in store for you—
a constantly changing selection of unique
items for your home and sure-to-please
gifts for friends.
Because of Plain City’s Amish heritage, the
Dutch Corporation chose Plain City to be the
site of a new restaurant serving traditional
Amish and Mennonite dishes. Owned by a
Mennonite family, they already owned similar
restaurants in the Holmes County area and
Middlebury, Indiana.
You’ll find friendly staff to help you find the
perfect gift, inspiring arrangements and
displays, and delightful seasonal items that
will infuse new life into your home décor.
Since opening in 1986, the facility has grown.
By 2002, a gift shop, banquet room, new
entrance and an addition had been added.
In the spring of 2011, the restaurant was
renovated to provide a sheltered entrance,
more space for dining and an expanded
bakery area.
