2012 was the Year of the Cow for PSE`s Green Power Program

The Green Power Program Hits Double Digits
2012 marks the 10 year anniversary of our Green Power
Program and we couldn’t be more proud; thank you for the
positive impact your participation has made. In the last 10
years a lot has changed in our world including a marked
increase in voluntary demand, like yours, for locally produced
power. Since 2002, 32,459 homes and businesses have joined the program
and purchased 1,783,153.5 megawatt hours (mWh) of electricity. This helped
avoid the release of 1,141,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions into the
air and provided environmental benefits equivalent to removing 203,000
passenger vehicles from the road. Now that is Re-Energizing!
Bellingham Couple Wins Solar Sweepstakes
Bellingham is home to our first Solar Sweepstakes
winners: Lon and Susan Swan. The Swans have won
a 1 kW photovoltaic solar system for their home which
will be installed this Spring. We’ll unfold the story of the
installation at Facebook.com/PSEGreenPower.
Community Challenges
Each year we partner with a community in PSE’s service area to expand
awareness surrounding voluntary renewable energy and grow our program. In
2011 we successfully added 505 new participants from the cities of Olympia
and Lacey and awarded $30,000 in grants toward solar demonstration
projects in the two cities.
This year we are partnering with Mercer Island. If Mercer Island green
power participation increases by 150 homes or businesses, they’ll earn money
toward a solar project at their local community center. This means they’ll
need to grow participation by 25 percent — but when they do the sun will
shine brighter on the center and it will become an educational destination for
everyone to share.
