PASTOR’S NOTE First Holy Communion Next Sunday, May 3rd, fourteen of our young parishioners will receive their First Holy Communion at the 10:30 Mass. Please keep them and their families in your prayers, especially during this week, that the Holy Eucharist will always be at the center of their lives individually and as families, and that Sunday Mass will be the priority of each week. Our Persecuted Sisters and Brothers In these weeks after Easter, passages of the Acts of the Apostles read at Mass describe the faith, courage, confidence and enthusiasm of the apostles and disciples as they began the preaching of the Good News. We also hear about the ways in which they were persecuted because of their faith. At the present time we are witnessing the intense persecution of Christians in various places around the world. We must join in prayerful solidarity with and for them. As part of our prayer, we can make the mortifications, both involuntary and voluntary, of each day an expression of solidarity with and love for our sisters and brothers who are literally dying for the Faith. Let us pray, also, that world leaders, especially leaders of the “free” world, will muster the courage to call this persecution what it is, to condemn the persecutors and effectively do something to stop this evil from spreading any further and continuing and longer. Let us pray that Mary, our Mother will protect and console those who are suffering so unjustly and brutally. Thank you again for your understanding, Regina Caeli – Queen of Heaven During the Easter season, that is from Easter Sunday through Pentecost Sunday, we pray the Regina Caeli in place of the Angelus at Noon and 6PM, as well as at nighttime before retiring. It is offered here in English, and in (the far more poetic) Latin! V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. R. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia. V. Has risen, as He said, alleluia. R. Pray for us to God, alleluia. V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia. Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. + V. Regina Caeli, laetare, alleluia. R. Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia. V. Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia. V. Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, alleluia. R. Quia surrexit Dominus vere, alleluia. Oremus. Amen.
