Apparatus rules (eg. Prohibited elements. Will
be discussed in each apparatus section)
Minimum Number of Skills
• Gymnasts can perform as many skills as they
desire, however, there is a maximum of
counting skills for each level:
– Level 7 = 7  6 skills plus Dismount (min. 5)
– Level 8 = 8  7 skills plus Dismount (min. 6)
– Level 9 = 8  7 skills plus Dismount (min. 6)
– Level 10 = 10  9 skills plus Dismount (min. 7)
Difficulty
• Each skill in the Code of Points has been
assigned a Letter and Difficulty value
• Only skills written in the Code of Points (and
additional skills for Level 7) may be performed
A = 0.1
B = 0.2
C = 0.3
D = 0.4
E = 0.5
F = 0.6
G = 0.7
Element Groups
• Skills in the Code of Points are grouped by
Element Groups
• Gymnasts can perform a maximum of 4
elements from each group
• Gymnasts are awarded 0.5 points for each
Element Group they fulfil (except Vault)
• Special rules regarding Element Groups exist
on Floor and Rings
Bonus
• Gymnasts can earn Bonus points for connecting particular
elements on Floor and High Bar
• The 2014-2017 Optional Requirements includes “Specific
Bonus” skills for each level
• Specific Bonus is designed to guide coaches to develop
gymnasts with the greatest chance for competing in L10
Senior International
• It rewards gymnasts for performing skills that have been
identified as developmentally sound for that level of
competition
• Gymnasts who perform Specific Bonus skills will receive 0.3
bonus (equivalent to a C!)
• The 2014-2017 Optional Requirements (located in the
Australian Levels Program Manual) can be purchased from GA
website (www.gymnastics.org.au) and is available for
download to MAG Technical Members
Presentation
• Presentation is concerned with the technical,
compositional (general expectations for exercise
construction) aesthetic and execution
performance of a routine
• The score for presentation is called the ‘E’ score
• Maximum E score = 10.0
• More information regarding Exercise Presentation
can be found in the Code of Points (Sections 6 - 9)
The D Score
• The D Score is known as the Difficult Score (and also Start Value)
• Consists of Element Groups (up to 5), Difficulty, and Bonus
• D Score = EG + Dif + B
– EG. If you fulfil 3 element groups with a difficulty score of 1.2 and no
bonus your D Score would be…
D = (3 x 0.5) + 1.2 + 0
= 1.5 + 1.2
= 2.7
• The D Score is added to your Execution Score to get your final
Score.
– Eg. If the above routine was given and Execution Score of 8.4 the final
score would be…
FS = E + D
= 8.4 + 2.7
= 11.1
Smart Routine Construction
• Element Groups = 0.5 each
• Difficulty: A = 0.1, B = 0.2, C = 0.3, D = 0.4, E = 0.5, F =
0.6, G = 0.7
• Therefore, fulfilling an Element Group is equivalent to
performing an E!
Include only skills that can be performed safely and with
a high degree of aesthetic and technical mastery
Try to fulfil as many Element Groups as possible
Create a routine that flows and allows easy addition of
more difficulty
Smart Routine Construction (cont.)
• Difficulty (D Score) vs. Execution (E Score)
– Difficulty includes Element Groups, Difficulty of
Elements, and Bonus  Generally worth 2.0 – 6.0
– Execution refers to how well the routine is
performed (out of 10.0)
– Execution is worth up to 10.0, Difficulty is
generally worth around 2.0 – 6.0
Therefore…
It is better to perform skills of a high quality than
of a high difficulty
