SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER
On the Fourth Sunday of Easter we always celebrate Jesus, our Good
Shepherd, who protects his flock, provides for our needs, and goes in
search of any sheep that are lost. As Christians, we are called to extend the hospitality of the Good Shepherd to members of the flock
who have wandered or become disconnected from the Church. We are
called to extend the love of the Good Shepherd to those in the margins.
Bishop McGrath stated during the March 24th Chrism Mass, “ Be
Christ to all whom meet you, and He will lead you home, each in your
own time.” Pope Frances was recently quoted, “ No one is to be a
“leftover.” No one is to be “excluded” from God’s love and from our
care.” May you find your spirit renewed this Easter Season. May you
find Christ’s love flowing from you to all those you meet. “Be
Christ”…What can you do to open you heart to your neighbor
in need?

EVEN MORE GOOD NEWS ON THE SURVIVAL SACK DRIVE
Queen of Apostles Parishioners. Your generosity in the Survival
Sack drive was underestimated. The final figures are in from
Sacred Heart and $3227 was donated plus 70 filled backpacks
from the school and another 25 filled by the parishioners. Also
many items that are needed to survive on the street were donated. Your generosity is unbounded and your LOVE for you
neighbors is inspiring. Thank you. Stop by to look at pictures on
the bulletin boards.

Pilgrimage to Poland
Fr. Noel will be leading a Pilgrimage to Poland in September.

Fourth Sunday After Easter
World Day of Prayer for Vocations
Today is the Fourth Sunday of Easter. We celebrate the Good Shepherd Sunday and the 52nd Anniversary of the World
Day of Prayer for Vocations. The objective of this is ‘to publically fulfill the Lord’s instruction to “Pray the Lord of the
harvest to send laborers to his vineyard”. While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day
on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female,
contemplative and apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life, in the particular sense of mission “ad gentes”. (United States Conference of Catholic

Allow me to share an excerpt from the message of The Holy Father, Pope Francis on the World Day of Prayer for Vocations:
“The Fourth Sunday of Easter offers us the figure of the Good Shepherd who knows his sheep: he calls them, he feeds
them and he guides them. For over fifty years the universal Church has celebrated this Sunday as the World Day of Prayer
for Vocations. In this way she reminds us of our need to pray, as Jesus himself told his disciples, so that “the Lord of the
harvest may send out laborers into his harvest” (Lk 10:2). Jesus command came in the context of his sending out missionaries. He called not only the twelve Apostles, but another seventy-two disciples whom he then sent out, two by two, for the
mission (cf. Lk 10:1-6). Since the Church “is by her very nature missionary” (Ad Gentes, 2), the Christian vocation is necessarily born of the experience of mission. Hearing and following the voice of Christ the Good Shepherd, means letting
ourselves be attracted and guided by him, in consecration to him; it means allowing the Holy Spirit to draw us into this
missionary dynamism, awakening within us the desire, the joy and the courage to offer our own lives in the service of the
Kingdom of God.”
Pope Francis goes on to say, “those who set out to follow Christ find life in abundance by putting themselves completely at
the service of God and his kingdom. Jesus says: ‘Everyone who has left home or brothers or sisters or father or mother or
children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life’ (Mt 19:29). All of this is profoundly rooted in love. The Christian vocation is first and foremost a call to love, a love which attracts us and draws us
out of ourselves…
This exodus towards God and others fills our lives with joy and meaning. I wish to state this clearly to the young, whose
youth and openness to the future makes them open-hearted and generous. At times uncertainty, worries about the future
and the problems they daily encounter can risk paralyzing their youthful enthusiasm and shattering their dreams, to the
point where they can think that it is not worth the effort to get involved, that the God of the Christian faith is somehow a
limit on their freedom. Dear young friends, never be afraid to go out from yourselves and begin the journey! The Gospel is
the message which brings freedom to our lives; it transforms them and makes them all the more beautiful. How wonderful
it is to be surprised by God’s call, to embrace his word, and to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, in adoration of the divine
mystery and in generous service to our neighbors! Your life will become richer and more joyful each day!
The Virgin Mary, model of every vocation, did not fear to utter her “fiat” in response to the Lord’s call. She is at our side
and she guides us. With the generous courage born of faith, Mary sang of the joy of leaving herself behind and entrusting
to God the plans she had for her life. Let us turn to her, so that we may be completely open to what God has planned for

Architects of Peace At the beginning of the new century and millennium, 2000, Marian Wright Edelman, President of the Children’s Defense Fund, spoke to the blessings and challenges we faced. “Few
beings are blessed to anticipate or experience the beginning of a new
century and millennium. How will we say thanks for the life, earth,
nations and children God has entrusted to our care? What legacies,
principles, values and deeds will we send for and send to the future
through our children?” With this preface, the book Architects of
Peace, begins. The book focuses on extraordinary people of peace in
our century. There are well-known figures – Mother Teresa, Cesar
Chavez and Bishop Tutu, as well as lesser known peacemakers. Let us
take a look at how peace is shaped through the people represented’
Mother Teresa, in her words:The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit
of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service,
the fruit of service is peace.
Let us not use bombs and guns to overcome the world. Let us use love
and compassion. Peace begins with a smile. Smile five times a day at
someone you don’t really want to smile at; do it for peace. Let us
radiate the peace of God and so light His light and extinguish in the
world and in the hearts of men and women all hatred and love for
power.
Attention Middle School Families:
I will be offering an 8 week bible study, designed specifically
for Middle School students beginning May 3rd at 6:30pm in the
church. This is for kids who want to delve a little deeper into
the scriptures, and encounter Jesus in a new and dynamic way!
Registration is free, but there is a $15 materials fee. Students

My Dear People,
We have received news today that one of our priests,
Monsignor Hien Minh Nguyen, has been arrested on
charges of bank fraud and tax evasion. The Diocese has
been cooperating with an ongoing criminal investigation
by the Internal Revenue Service into the conduct of
Monsignor Hien since October of 2012.
Any facts in the matter are the part of the investigation,
and only the IRS has the authority to make disclosures
at a time of its choosing. We do not know when that
might be. At the request of the IRS, we have had minimal direct communication with Monsignor Hien. He is
on a personal leave of absence, which he requested.
I would be grateful if you would keep all involved in
your prayers at this time.

A big thank you to all those who so generously contributed to “Get On The Bus”. We received $2894 in donations to help children to see, touch and talk to their incarcerated parents on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.It was
Divine Mercy Sunday and God particularly asks us on
this day to be merciful to others as He is merciful to us.
