Well done and a huge thank you to our coordinators Michelle Walker, Carolyn Sternberg & Elizabeth Shewan I would like to encourage all our families to support the fete team, and ask you to sign up to volunteer some of your time on the day. The RPS wider school community and in particular the very talented Parents Group continue to provide an enormous amount of support to the school – financially, socially and physically. The Parents Group consistently raises a significant amount of funds through activities such as special lunches, disco, Mothers and Fathers Day stalls, Barefoot Bowls, mangoes, Easter and Christmas raffles…the list is long. In 2014, the Parents Group, along with Canteen and Uniform sales raised more than $26,000, money that not only buys “extras” for the students, but also helps to meet the shortfall in funding from the Education Department to cover often basic cost items. Whilst the financial benefit of the events organised by Parents Group is marvellous, the Parents Group also provides families with an opportunity to be involved more broadly in the school community – to meet other families and to provide a level of social connectedness which has many benefits for both the school and for the families involved. We congratulate our Parents Group, under the guidance of Rachel Brown, for the wonderful energy they bring to the school. Research PS is certainly fortunate to have the terrific guidance and energy from so many fabulous parents, and to have a very supportive school community to help us achieve so many of our goals. I hope you all enjoy your day at our fete. Sally Western, School Council President FETE Thank you to all the fabulous coordinators, makers, creators and great ideas people who have worked so hard to ensure the fete will be a really good success, well done and a big thank you. The volunteer sign-up sheet is currently outside the school office, on the window. The sheet is where you and your family can volunteer to help on a stall on fete day. If everyone puts in an hour or so it spreads the load and the same people do not become stuck on a stall for hours on end. A completed roster for the day, with a plan of the school so you know where stalls are situated etc will be sent home before the fete. If you can’t make it to the office, please give us a call on 9437 1917 and we can add you, or fill in the slip below. Name:……………………………… Contact Phone Number:………………………….. ANZAC DAY CEREMONY Research Primary School held its own Anzac Ceremony today in the Gym. All the students arrived with a poppy they had made, and respectfully added their poppy to the collection as they entered. Mr Whyte then spoke about the significance of Anzac Day and why we participate in ceremonies at this time. The students then watched a short PowerPoint on Anzac Day on the big screen. We then talked about the Honour Roll we have at school to commemorate those from Research who went to the Great War. At the end of the ceremony we held a minutes silence, sang the National Anthem then listened to a song "The Last Anzac", and watched an accompanying video. Pippa and Hayden, our School Captains, then helped Mrs Pagon, Jacqui Doherty and the JSC members plant a Gallipoli Oak in the school grounds, which we had been given to help commemorate 100 years since landing at Gallipoli. The tree was grown from acorns originally sent to Australia by soldiers fighting at Gallipoli in World War 1. Jacqui is a direct descendent of a Gallipoli veteran and proudly wore his medals today at assembly. Miss K's class then spent some time this afternoon creating a '100' display on the fence using all the poppies, which you may see as you drive past this weekend. Lest we forget. What a fantastic opportunity for the Grade 6 students to attend the Diamond Creek combined school Anzac Ceremony today at the Diamond Creek Community Stadium. The students participated respectfully in the ceremony which was a wonderful tribute to those Anzacs who served in Gallipoli 100 years ago this year. Thankyou to our parents Libby, Heather, Emel, Josie and Emma who assisted with driving the students - we really appreciate your help on the day. The students also received a commemorative coin which they will treasure as a memory of their terrific experience. ANZAC DAY BISCUIT BAKING The students from Grade 2K, 2/3K & 3/4W would like to thank Jacqui Kratofil and Jenni Welch for helping us bake ANZAC biscuits last Thursday. They were yummy. Special thanks to Jacqui for organising the sessions. The students from 6M would like to thank Danielle Griffiths for baking ANZAC biscuits with them last week. The children were eager to explore a range of exciting activities. We started the week with box constructions. Mathias surprised us all with his fantastic robot suit, it is so large that he can wear it. He had fun pretending to be a robot and role playing with the children. Well done Mathias. Our Jet backpacks were another winner with the children. After constructing the jetpacks with recycled water bottles the children wore them and we had jet pack races. We also had origami paper plane flying competitions, clay creations and we talked about why ANZAC day is so special. To end the week we all learnt how to dance the Zorba. Truly exhilarating.
