WELCOME
Welcome to term 2. It sounds from the children’s reports that many families had a great break.
Term 2 sees our School Fete, Interschool Sport, Cross Country, Collingwood Children’s Farm, Healesville
Sanctuary, GATEWays, Education Week, cyber safety sessions for children and parents and NAPLAN, an
interesting and challenging term of learning.
YEAR 7 2016
Parents of grade 6 students have received secondary school information and an Application for Year 7
Placement 2016. Please list all three government school placement preferences on the enrolment form, as
often our school needs to nominate the student to their second or third preference.
WORKING BEES
Working bees have been scheduled for the rest of the year. This Saturday 18 April 9am – 12noon is the first
one for the year, for families with the eldest child in Prep, Grade 1S and 2S. Each family is invited to assist
at one working bee, according to the grade level of their eldest child either on their scheduled day or on
another working bee day that better suits. Some families who cannot attend working bees contribute a
cash donation to the school to enable a handy man or tradesman to be employed to undertake the work
around the school.

We wish Jackie all the best for her operation next week and a full & speedy recovery. Jackie will be away
from school from Tuesday 21 April until Monday 11 May.

GRADE 5 & 6 CAMP WARATAH BAY
What an amazing few days we had a Waratah Beach Camp. The sun was shining, the waves were crashing
and the giant swing was exhilarating! Another huge thank you to our absolutely wonderful parent helpers for
assisting us with running the activities, serving delicious food and wandering the dorm corridors at night –
Gayle Doherty, Marnie Roth, Teresa Reibelt, Mary Trigger, John Girdlestone, Steve Turner and Steve
Todd. Your efforts are much appreciated!

SPORT AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION
INTERSCHOOL SPORT GRADES 4 - 6
Interschool Sport will commence in Week 2 on Friday afternoons. We play against the Eltham District
schools in the following sports: Football, Korfball, Bat Tennis, Soccer and Netball. Permission forms and
details of draw and venues will be sent home this week. Our first game will be played on Friday 24 th April
away at Eltham Primary.
RPS CROSS COUNTRY
RPS Cross Country will be held on Monday 20th April for grades 3 – 6. Cross Country will commence at
1.30pm and if any parents are able to assist please let the office know prior to the day and meet me on the
top basketball courts at 1.20pm. 11 & 12/13 year olds run 3km and 10 & under run 2km. Please ensure all
students wear footwear suitable for running. Good luck to all students. Eltham District Cross Country is on
Tuesday 5th May at Lower Eltham Park, Division will be held on 10th June and Regions on 17th June.

Parents Group will once again be offering the Entertainment Book at the very good value of $65 each. The
Entertainment Book is full of discount vouchers for local restaurants, as well as venues and activities
around Melbourne and Victoria and valid until June 2016.

FETE MEETING
Not long now, 3 weeks until our Fete. Our next Fete meeting is tonight Tuesday 14 April 7.30pm in the
staffroom. Could all stall co-ordinators please attend or if you are unavailable please send a report.
Everyone is welcome to come along.
SIGN UP ROSTER
The volunteer sign-up sheet will be going up shortly, outside the school office. The sheet is where you and
your family can volunteer to help man a stall on fete day. If everyone puts in an hour or so it spreads the
load and the same people do not become stuck on a stall for hours on end. We understand that everyone
works, have children involved in sport, gym and ballet etc, have family commitments and also wish to spend
some time ourselves enjoying the fete day but please think of the whole school community. A completed
roster for the day, with a plan of the school so you know where stalls are situated etc will be sent home
before the fete.

WHITE ELEPHANT DROP OFF FOR 2015
We will be accepting donations for the White Elephant stall from 8.45-9.30am on Monday mornings, 3.003.45pm on Wednesday afternoons and two additional collection days of 8.45-9.30am on Friday 17th
& 24th April. If you would like to organise a drop off at a different time, or have a question, please call or

We will be sorting through the White Elephant items on Wednesday 22nd April from 2pm onwards and

MYSTERY JARS
Remember to bring in your mystery jars - to fill your mystery jars - Take a clean jar (preferably clear) and fill
with new goods to the value of a least $2. Only child friendly goods please. The Mystery Jar Register has
begun to fill up; currently Prep B is now in the lead with 33 jars.

HAMPER STALL
We are holding a free dress day at school next Tuesday 21st April. However, we will not be asking the
children for a gold coin donation but instead we thought it would be fun to use the day to raise items for the
hampers which will be made up to be sold at the school fete on May 2nd. Each class has been given a
different category for their themed hamper, along with a list of specific items required. We will be asking you
to choose one of the items on your child’s class list then for each child to bring that item in on Tuesday 21st,
in return for attending school in free dress. This was very successful for our 2013 Fete and I am sure it will
be again. A note has been sent home with your child (ren) with a full explanation. Thank you.

FETE SAVERS & RIDES WRISTBANDS
Fete saver and rides wristbands order forms are on the fete bulletins and at the back of this newsletter.
Orders for fete savers and / or wristbands need to be returned to school by Thursday, 30 April. Fete
savers offer a sausage in bread, can of soft drink or a bottle of water, a frozen fruit tube and a $2 white
elephant item. The voucher is $9 value for just $6 and will not be available on fete day. Ride wristbands
give children unlimited rides on selected rides (see flyer) for $25 with the price increasing to $30 on the day.
FETE BOOK STALL
With just three weeks to go until the Fete there is still time to drop off any preloved books to the library
corridor on Tuesday - Friday. or leave outside the door if the library is locked. If you are fully committed to
help at the Fete I am happy to pre-sell books to anyone who would otherwise miss out on time to browse.

CANTEEN ROSTER
Please note that the canteen will not open after school on Tuesday or Thursday this term due to the
cooler weather. Instead we will open Wednesday lunchtimes for counter sales, in addition to the Monday
and Friday lunch order/counter sale days. We would like to put another call out for helpers for the Monday,
Wednesday and Friday shifts; there are still many shifts to be filled. Please contact the office, add your name
to the notice board near the gym or contact Jacqui Robinson (0414 362 275) if you can contribute a small

HOOPTIME NEWS FOR 2015
Good news, we have 13 teams of 6-7 players signed up, ready to go and keen to participate in the
Hooptime Round Robins this year. We have requested Wednesday 29th July at Maroondah for the Grade
5/6 students and Wednesday 9th September also at Maroondah for the Grade 3/4 students. Please pop
these dates in your diary to help with transport to the venue. Training for the Grade 5/6's will commence
at the start of next term during Wednesday lunchtime. Once again I will be requesting help from the
Grade 6's to help coach the Grade 3/4 teams so they will be required to attend all training sessions to be
allocated a team once they start training later in Term 3. The lovely Jacki Todd will be assisting me again
this year and it promises to be another successful and fun year of Hooptime. Any queries please contact

ENDING THE AMBULANCE CRISIS – COMMUNITY CONSULTATION FORUM
I am inviting you to speak with Minister Hennessy at a forum I am holding to hear your feedback on the
interim report. The forum will take place on Thursday 23 April at 6.30pm. The meeting will be held at
State Emergency Service, 58 Susan Street, Eltham (corner of Bridge and Susan Street). Please extend
this invitation to others who would be interested in participating in the forum and please RSVP to my
office by Friday 17 April.
I will then be making a submission to the Committee on the issues raised to ensure the concerns of our
community are heard and taken into account.
