RESUMAC
Managing and Saving Energy Consumption
SA on the brink of a national black-out – Eskom CEO
http://www.moneyweb.co.za/uncategorized/sa-on-the-brink-of-a-national-blackout-eskom-ceo/
To set the stage, consider the following:
• Regular Load shedding – here to stay for many years!
• The continuously rising global demand for energy vs the need to conserve energy and
save the environment.
• The ever rising costs and increasing scarcity of fossil fuels such as oil and gas.
RESUMAC is a system that REMOTELY controls, manages and reduces energy consumption
and therefore substantially saves money.
Never before has the timing for the launch of a system been so perfect!
RESUMAC is for ALL USERS OF ELECTRICITY.
The system has the ability and provides the means to REMOTELY:
• Identify power-hungry circuits.
• Monitor consumption in REAL-TIME.
• Display consumption of individual circuits in actual monetary terms.
• Ensure that demand never exceeds budget or supply.
• Detect failing circuits that consume more power than they should.
• Detect theft of both cables and power.
• Manage, control and minimise wasteful habits.
• Avoid penalties from excessive usage or extra charges during peak periods.
• Relieve the pressure on an over extended and under-capitalised power grid system.
• Increase awareness of how much power is being used and the costs thereof.
Municipalities can now plan for significant and simultaneous reduction of demand across the
network and take steps to mitigate the impact on grid stability without compromising commercial
operations. Each member of a gated community can measure how actively they have
participated in any energy saving program.
The software allows the user to track their overall energy consumption and program their future
usage to achieve a pre-determined budget - thus ensuring savings.
Easy-to-understand graphical reports allow the user to monitor consumption in real time and
hence confirm their programmed utility bill cost reductions.
Having a real-time view of the data of all your consumption makes it possible to see patterns of
energy waste that it would be impossible to see otherwise, allowing you to find and quantify
energy-saving opportunities. KNOWING where your energy is being used and WASTED,
plays a huge role in SAVING it!

The RESUMAC System
The RESUMAC System is a combination of specialised monitoring Hardware and dedicated
controlling Software that manages and controls energy consuming devices from a central
internet based server.
RESUMAC is unique in that it does not depend on any form of concentrator or central data
collecting device, instead all devices communicate directly to the remote central server via GSM
/ GPRS which eliminates typical Radio Frequency (RF) network range issues.
The system covers unlimited distances indoor or outdoor via GSM / GPRS communication with a
customized protocol to communicate commands and data requests over the network.
Where RF is needed, RESUMAC boasts “state of the art” RF technology capable of incredible
distances with incredibly reliable transmission - even from under-ground.
Hardware
Designed for both indoor and outdoor environments, the hardware consists of electronic data
logging devices that measure and control the electrical power consumption of various devices via
two-way GSM communication with our remote server. The system is suitable for 120 amp 30
amp applications and stores data for up to 1 year with battery backup of up to 48 hours.
The 120Amp device is suitable for larger electrical equipment such as industrial machinery, large
pumps, electrical circuits, and phase circuits in municipal substations etc. while the 30Amp
device is suitable for small to medium electrical equipment such as geysers, fridges, washing
machines, heaters, air conditioners, pool pumps, water pumps, light circuits, etc.

Software
The software is the core of the entire solution in that it allows the user to remotely manage and
control their energy consumption via the internet or mobile phone.
The RESUMAC software has a unique grid based interface that displays consumption and cost in
real time by appliance/machinery, house/building, street, suburb, town, city and province and
assists the user in identifying which device/s are the “big” consumers in energy and recommends
scheduling strategies to reduce consumption and cost.
In addition the software has been designed to
interface with the SCADA protocols (Supervisory
Control And Data Acquisition) used by electricity
and water supply utilities worldwide. This will
enable these Utilities to go beyond the present
barrier of the Sub stations and reach into the
consumers’ distribution boards. This gives them
an invaluable tool to control consumption on
individual systems such as geysers and pool pumps
and street lights in order to avoid the necessity of
rolling black outs.

PRACTICAL BENEFITS
Many companies in South Africa are faced with incorrect electricity bills and end up paying more
than they should each month.
RESUMAC’s real time data and graphic display of consumption history provides an invaluable
tool to identify energy waste and can save up to 50% on electricity bills and reduce your carbon
foot print. Typical examples are:
•
•
Have electrical circuits been turned on or off when required?
o This can be monitored from a cell phone from anywhere and if not, the electrical
circuit can then be switched on or off with the obvious benefit of not having to
physically be there to do so.
Identify who or what is causing energy wastage. Examination of the two graphs below
will show:
o Between 13:00 and 15:00 on Friday, an increase over the average consumption is
visible – why? (Investigation found that a staff member did a private welding job.)
o The average energy consumption on Friday after hours is 25 Kwh.
o The average energy consumption on Saturday after hours was 130 Kwh! Why?
(Certain circuits that were not switched off.)

The system provides the following statistics and information:
• Exact Rand value of operation of individual appliances. Most expensive appliances are
easily identified. Management of these electrical circuits will obtain most savings.
• Highest / lowest / average consumption for the day / week / month.
• Power quality – spikes and surges by time stamp. This is valuable information that can
substantiate a claim when appliances blow for no apparent reason.
• Electrical circuits and loads can be managed according specific criteria.
• Sequential electrical circuits that need to switch on and off depending on the status of
other electrical circuits can be guaranteed to function correctly and without fail.
• Prevention of over-load on a circuit via early warning, - A faulty appliance that is drawing
more power than its rating can be identified and fixed before serious damage occurs.
• Electrical wiring problems can easily be identified.
• Specific electrical circuits are easily activated via external devices and sensors. Eg. Turn
on air-conditioning when someone enters the room or turn off the irrigation system when
the water reservoir runs low.

OFFICE BLOCKS, SHOPPING MALLS AND COMMERCIAL
WASTE
OR
CONSERVE
Our country is no longer in a position to waste electricity.
Buildings can monitor and control heating, ventilation and air-conditioner systems, equipment can
be pro-actively managed ensuring optimum performance and maximizing savings.
Peak demand management or Load shedding strategies automate a buildings use of electricity
during peak periods, reducing peak kVA demand, resulting in significant electricity savings.
RESUMAC Features and Benefits:
• Cost of consumption per appliance / office / floor / building is measured in real-time.
• Typical office appliances are comprehensively managed via specific pre-determined
criteria, objectives and conditions. Non-essential appliances and electrical circuits left on
when people leave will automatically switch off when not required.
• Reduce peak load consumption
• Lower electricity bills
• More efficient / intelligent control of equipment
• No inconvenience to staff
• No Eskom penalties
• Water wastage or leakage and excessive usage by floor / building is identified.
Occupancy sensors
Historically buildings were designed with one light switch per floor or wing, with the last person
leaving, responsible for turning the lights off.
Occupancy sensors reduce your energy costs by controlling lights and air-cons more efficiently by
turning them off when areas are unoccupied. Electricity bills are thereby reduced and the carbon
footprints are lowered.
7
MUNICIPALITIES
It is impossible to manage supply if you cannot manage demand.
All variables for demand are easily managed and controlled by the Resumac system:
• Accurately identify consumption against billing.
• Accurately identify and measure non-billable
electrical consumption. (Street and traffic lights etc.)
• Micro load shed per circuit per phase with minimal
disruption to commerce and industry. (Switch on
every 2nd or 3rd street light)
• Demand Side Management (DSM) per circuit per
phase. (Manage peak demand)
• Confirm electricity delivered matches invoice.
• Pre-empt over-loading and collapsing circuits
• Identify electricity theft.
• The need for human interaction to switch household
supply on and off is removed.
• A shortage of power has the net effect of
compromising the entire water services value chain
for the period of its absence.
FARMING, MINING AND INDUSTRIAL
Remote control ensures that human man hours required
managing the infrastructure especially during malfunctions or breakdowns are reduced to minimum.
Invaluable reports, information and functionality is
provided by the Resumac system.

Competitors
Competitors provide solutions that are limited in their capability to manage consumption locally
or remotely and in most cases are outside the price range of consumers. They appear to overlook
the needs of both the utility and consumer in terms of management and control of electricity
consumption vs. cost. Systems that are close to meeting the required performance fall down on
price. Their lack of functionality, accuracy, cost and ability to meet the needs of the consumer are
the most probable reasons that 90% of the market remains in the “dark” on electricity
consumption and the cost thereof.
+n order for a utility or consumer to implement a solution remotely close to RESUMAC, they
would need to acquire various products from different suppliers with the tedious task of having to
integrate, if at all possible, the different solutions at enormous costs.
The fact that RESUMAC does NOT NEED A CONCENTRATOR to communicate between
individual circuits and the server:
• Substantially reduces the overall cost of a complete system.
• Vastly increases the range of operation and the reliability of performance.
• Makes it a leader in its field.
12
Extensive market research conducted both internationally and locally revealed:
• A clear and unfulfilled gap in product performance and consumer requirements.
• Shortfalls on performance of available competitive systems.
• A very high cost of functional products rendering an unacceptable “pay-back” period.
• An undeniable need for an affordable system to save energy consumption.
• The market lacked a cost effective and “total” solution that would benefit all energy
consuming industries.
• A specification for the “ideal” system.
RESUMAC is superior to similar products on the market for the following reasons:
• A RESUMAC system:
o Is priced to suit the consumer pocket providing as little as a 4 month break-even
period from the savings it provides.
o Provides substantially more accurate results on electricity consumption and
management than its competitors.
o Is user friendly and simple to install.
o Has a universal application from municipality to consumer consumption.
o Covers all spectrums for the management and control of electricity consumption.
o Has the capability to communicate with DNP3 and Modbus protocols which is the
standard for SCADA type RESUMAC System
o Is customizable to suit the exact needs of the consumer versus a “what you see is
what you get” from competitors.
• Each unit communicates directly with the server where competitors need a concentrator.
• Each unit can act as a “concentrator” for other analogue or RF devices.
RESUMAC was developed to be the ultimate solution across all energy consuming industries that
would monopolize the respective industries.
“You have to know that your product is solving a real problem that buyers are willing to pay you
to solve. You can’t just believe there is a problem that needs to be solved.”..Dave Daniels.

Market Structure: Distribution Strategy
We have the exclusive mandate from RESUMAC International Holdings to co-ordinate and
manage the establishment of a comprehensive distribution network that will maximize target
market penetration throughout the regions and provinces of South Africa.
We are committed to a distribution strategy that utilizes intermediated channels to reach the end
consumer, i.e. we do not provide product directly to the end consumer. We seek rather to
maximize target market penetration through the recruitment and licensing of Dealers and
Resellers with existing channel footprint and end user (customer) relationships.
Moreover, our goal is to leverage existing resources, infrastructure, relationships and expertise to
expedite market entry and engineer rapid wealth creation at every step in the value chain across
the entire network of distribution partners.
We are equally committed to quality, and we will operate a distribution network that ensures
every installation is properly designed and executed using professionally registered Electrical
Engineers and qualified Electricians that are certified RESUMAC Installers.
The Target Distribution Model for South Africa consists of two broad Networks:1. The Dealer Distribution Network, and
2. The Reseller Distribution Network.
1. The Dealer Distribution Network
The Dealer Distribution Network is populated from a national "pool" of small to medium sized
Electrical Contractors, and will predominantly services the needs of the Residential and SME
market segments.
Installations will be less sophisticated, utilize fewer Data Loggers, and will not typically require
the advanced design and configuration skills of an Electrical Engineer.
Inventory will be drawn directly from RESUMAC SA, or via a National Wholesaler with
discretionary credit facilities. Financing structures will be developed for those customers that
prefer a hire purchase option to an outright purchase transaction.
The Dealer Distribution Network is by far the most substantial of the networks in terms of the
number of licensed partners, with 90% of all licensed partners being Dealers and, according to our
forecasts, will generate approximately 45% of our targeted sales in terms of Data Logger devices.
2. The Reseller Distribution Network
The Reseller Distribution Network is configured and populated on the basis of specialized
portfolios and discrete market channels, and is subdivided into two categories of Reseller:A. Value Added Resellers, and
B. Specialized Agency Resellers
14
A. Value Added Resellers (VARs)
This category of Reseller will predominantly service the Corporate, Government and Utility target
markets in South Africa, and is populated from a much smaller and more diverse "pool" of larger
Electrical Contracting firms, Electrical Engineering Consulting firms, large firms with
complimentary offering and services, and professional firms with influential networks.
Each VAR will be sector specific with a specialisation core servicing a client base that he already
possesses a relationship with.
The four configurations of Reseller in this category reflect the skills base and market focus of the
firms with existing "footprints" in this sector.
VAR Type 1 - Integrated Reseller:
VAR Type 2 - Engineer Reseller:
VAR Type 3 - Installer Reseller:
VAR Type 4 - Associate Reseller:
B. Speciaised Agency Resellers (SARs)
This category of Reseller will predominantly service the Residential and SME target market
segments, and will be recruited and licensed on the basis of a proven ability to operate discrete
channel models with an established customer base in the target market segments.
There are three types of SARs in this Reseller category.
SAR Type 1 - Franchise Reseller:
SAR Type 2 - Rental Reseller:
SAR Type 3 - Retail & Wholesale Reseller:
Retail distribution will, however be exclusive to a main distributor in order to ensure collaborative
advertising and promotions and thereby achieve optimal penetration through the retail DIY and
self-service market.
Notwithstanding our very comprehensive distribution strategy, we are conservatively
targeting only a 21% market penetration over the next 5 years and we have priced the
system accordingly to ensure that this goal is reached.
Our strategy is to collaborate with our partners in this project Vodacom and Yellow Pages and
support our distribution network with mass media campaigns including TV. All direct advertising
and promotions will be done in conjunction with our dealers and resellers.
Our rental model is supported via mass media and a strong digital presence through Trudon /
Yellow pages as our prime distribution partner.
The promotional perspective of our strategy focusses on a below-the-line capability where we
actively generate leads for our complete dealer / distribution base.
Incorporated into every license / distribution agreement is an active strategy of a direct marketing
model for the development and supply of qualified leads.
15
Generation of Qualified Leads
We have contracted with Trudon (Yellow Pages) to be our exclusive outsourcing and
procurement contractor and partner for lead generation. They are contracted to produce 3 million
professionally qualified sales leads over a 3 year period which will be distributed through our
contracted licensee partners to ensure that their sales teams achieve the minimum performance
targets set for them.
The supply of these leads is mandatory for our Dealer interface with options for our Value Added
Resellers (VAR). The VAR’s are expected to leverage their own existing networks and would
therefore not need qualified leads, but the option is there for them to enhance their performance.
Our contractual arrangement with Trudon is exclusive and they are remunerated on a performance
based structure per qualified lead. They supply a specific quantity of leads per Dealer depending
on the contract we have with the various dealers.
For example, our Dealer Type 1 would receive 120 qualified leads per month for a year and
working on a conservative 25% closure rate, each of these Dealers is budgeted to conclude 30
sales per month which, in turn, provides substance to our sales forecasts.
Each lead supplied is captured in our lead prospecting data base which in turn integrates with our
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. This allows for complete transparency
within our network and ensures that conflicts are easily resolved if not avoided completely.
Practical Demonstrations and Interest
The solution was recently demonstrated to SEL (Schweitzer Engineering Labourites), a SCADA
solution provider to electricity supply utilities who showed great interest in the solution in as far
as to invite various heads of departments within City Power to a follow up demonstration who
equally were impressed and proposed the solution be tested in a pilot project in conjunction with
SEL, City Power and Eskom.
Pilot projects have already been scheduled for several Municipalities around the country.
There have been several approaches from other parties interested in piloting the solution into large
housing complexes, holiday resorts, commercial farming and mining industry with the emphasis
to remotely manage and optimise their electricity consumption.
16
