Please take a couple of minutes to read through the participants event guide. It will provide you with key information to make your event more enjoyable, and ensure you’re fully prepared for the activities and festivities. VENUE Start, Finish and the Event Precinct are located at Varsity Lakes Arts and Sports Centre on Assembly Drive (opposite Varsity College Senior School). Varsity Lakes Arts and Sports Centre Assembly Drive Varsity Lakes 4227 Inside the bag, you’ll find your participant merchandise – exclusive to you for being a part of this great occasion. You’ll also pick up your event bib and any other goodies from sponsors and supporters. Event Kits can be picked up from: Varsity Lakes Arts and Sports Centre Assembly Drive Varsity Lakes 4227 Opening times are as follows: Saturday 02 May 2015 Sunday 03 May 2015 2pm – 5pm Opens 5.30am Please remember to bring ID and confirmation. GETTING THERE ON TIME Please ensure you arrive at the venue a minimum of 30mins prior to your event start time. This will ensure you have adequate time to access the marshalling start points and receive updates on key event information. CLOTHING We recommend you check the weather forecast prior to packing your bag and dress accordingly. It is wise to bring something warm to wear, especially pre and post event. PARKING Parking is available on the side streets surrounding the event precinct, including access roads around Bond University. *Please note - road closures are in place from 4.30am until 4.30pm on Sunday (please see next page). COLLECTION You can pick up your event kit with a copy of your registration confirmation (via paper or smartphone). You can also pick up your mates packets providing you have their confirmation. EVENT KIT COLLECTION If you didn’t pick up your event kit the day before, please report to the event checkin tent to do so on event morning. Location and times available above. EVENT BIBS At registration, you will be provided an event race number with safety pins to affix to your clothing. Event numbers must be worn, and clearly visible, on the FRONT of your chest at all times. This will ensure you get access to the correct areas and can be identified by marshals both on and off site, in addition to timing staff at start/finish. Event numbers cannot be reissued on the day. Your number identifies you as a participant and provides you with access to various free/additional services throughout the weekend. The event finish time is expected to be 11am, with the City of Gold Coast Bike and Street Fest continuing to run from 10am to 2pm. Stay around and join in the fun! Please do not let anyone else run in your number. Imagine the anxiety caused to relatives or friends in the event of misidentification should there be a medical emergency. THE COURSE All courses utilise open roads and walkways. These are shared areas and as such there will be other foot and vehicular traffic – please be aware and mindful of sharing the space. Participants are only permitted to run in the event in which they are entered. If a change of event is required, please complete the necessary documentation and advise event checkin. They will advise you of the available options. Failure to follow these general guidelines may affect the timing of your event and a possible DSQ. Events with official timing will have results uploaded to the website within 24hrs of completion. GEAR TENT It’s a good idea to only bring necessary equipment or clothing for the event. Leave extras at home or in your car. A small gear tent will be available to participants - open from 5.30am to 11am. You will need your event number to reclaim your gear at the end of the event. It is also advisable to place some form of identification on all your personal property, this enables easy identification if it is misplaced and returned to officials. Please note that no responsibility or liability of your belongings is taken by event organisers. START TIMES Please take a note of your expected start time and aim to be ready 30mins prior to your event. 6.30am 90km Cycle 6.40am 60km Cycle 6.50am 30km Cycle 7.00am 10km Run Start 7.10am 5km Run Start 7.20am 5km Walk Start 10.00am 3km Family Cycle 10.15am 1km Junior Bolt On the day, directional signage will be positioned around the course(s) but it’s a general requirement that participants become familiar with the route before the event. Due to the nature of the roads/events the courses are not officially ratified distances, however are very close to the advertised length. Please note there are some uneven surfaces and small bridges so please take your time when accessing. Full course descriptions and routes can be downloaded from the website. CYCLING REGULATIONS The Course is OPEN - open to you and open to other user groups – please be aware. Abide by the road rules. This includes, but is not limited to: o adhering to speed limits; o obeying traffic signals and remaining on the left hand side of the road at all times; o wearing your helmet correctly. Never ride more than two abreast; and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends. Please listen to and obey directions from Police and/or course marshals at all times. Use hand signals if turning left or right or stopping. Riders must only pass to the right of another rider and call out 'passing' when doing so. Look around you. Remember to drink plenty of water. Be aware of the road surface and changes/faults - do not ride in the gutter. Exercise caution at all times during the ride. Keep moving at the finish. There may be participants finishing directly behind you so it’s a good idea to carry on through to a safe recovery area near your friends/family. Enjoy it. Whether you’re going for a fast time or simply in it for fun, it’s a great occasion and you should be proud of your efforts. RUN/WALK ETIQUETTE The Course is OPEN - open to you and open to other user groups – please be aware. It is your responsibility to know the course advertised. While there is event signage throughout – please ensure you are aware of the route. Position yourself at the start line relative to your ability to allow a smooth start for all. Keep to the left of the course to allow people to pass on the right. Do not stop or change directions suddenly. Be courteous to your fellow participants at all times. Run/Walk in single file on narrow or busy walkways. Please listen to and obey directions from Police and/or course marshals at all times. Remember to drink plenty of water. Be aware of the pathway surface and changes/faults. Exercise caution at all times during the run/walk. Keep moving at the finish. There may be participants finishing directly behind you so it’s a good idea to carry on through to a safe recovery area near your friends/family. Enjoy it. Whether you’re going for a fast time or simply in it for fun, it’s a great occasion and you should be proud of your efforts. CHEER STATIONS Please ensure you are adequately hydrated and fit enough to participate in your event, failure to do so may result in dehydration and cause injury. There will be on-course aid stations as per the course maps, including at the start/finish line. FINISHING First of all – High 5 – WootWoot! Secondly, keep moving through the finish area as there may be participants finishing directly behind you. FIRST AID First Aid services will be available at the Start/Finish line and enroute as part of the cycle. In case of incident or injury, please advise the nearest on/off course event official for assistance. Alternatively Event Control can be contacted at any time on 1300 855 270. In the event of an emergency anywhere, please call 000 as priority. TOILETS Toilets are located both inside and outside of the venue, with on course facilities as per public toilet blocks along the routes. SUPPORT It is anticipated that all participants will have completed their event by 11am. There will be no support after this time so please enter the event which best suits your level of fitness. As you cross the finish line you can take advantage of the POGO Physio Recovery Zone. This includes water, fruit, and massage services. You’ve earned it! Or kick back and relax amongst the various activities and entertainment on offer from 10am as part of the City of Gold Coast’s Bike and Street Fest! Places & Prizes There are no official presentations for place setters but there will be interviews and spot prizes with selected participants and teams throughout.
