We are celebrating a lot lately at
The Rose. Our beautiful space, with
its dramatic history, is a centerpiece
Twenty years ago, the Omaha Theater Company opened its
doors on its first full season in its beautifully refurbished facility,
The Rose Blumkin Performing Arts Center. As the years passed, families came
together to laugh, cry, sing and experience the magic of theater. The children
who once passed through our doors in wide-eyed wonderment now bring
their own families to share in the joy that is The Rose. We are proud to have
become a tradition for so many families in the Omaha area and a fixture in
the childhood of so many of our area’s young people.
Although much has changed over the past 20 years, we remain dedicated
to our original mission: to enrich the lives of children and families through
live theater arts and education. We look forward to providing high-quality
family entertainment for families for many years to come. We take this
opportunity to celebrate creativity, to celebrate artistic expression, to
celebrate families and to celebrate you, our members.
We now invite you to celebrate with us this season, as we look
ahead to a season filled with fun characters, daring adventures
and exciting experiences.

of that celebration this year. We
are the fortunate tenants of a building
that generations of Omahans care about,
but our theater is surprisingly lifeless without you.
Your family gives it the warmth of your presence and
the sound of your laughter when you spend time with
us for performances. That is when The Rose feels truly
full of magic and possibility. You make that happen,
so we want to celebrate your interests with the shows
we are making in 2015-2016.

Jan 9 - 30, 2016
See page 16 for performance dates and times
This is a multi-sensory, highly interactive play for very young audiences. Its words and actions are
inspired by the classic book of poems by Roberts Louis Stevenson. A few actors and a musician,
puppetry and play, help audiences grow a garden and their imaginations as they frolic in the
leaves, feed a bird, sing in the rain, dance with the wind, build a boat and discover treasures,
including the greatest of them all - friendship. They also plant seeds and words that, with careful
tending, grow into flowers and poems to bring home.

Why theater for the very young?
The Rose is proud to offer parents of very young children a unique opportunity
to introduce their preschooler to the theater in a fun, age-appropriate manner.
Presented in the intimate setting of The Rose’s Hitchcock Stage, these two
interactive pieces designed specifically with preschoolers in mind bring young
families together in the spirit of imagination and fun. The smaller theater allows
young children to become completely absorbed in the theatrical experience. We
encourage their interaction with the performers and invite your
family to tear down the fourth wall and become a part
of the performance.
Theater for the very young provides an
artistic experience that overcomes
age and developmental barriers. It
provides a way to nurture creative
thinking and imagination. while
inspiring both children and their
parents. Theater has been shown
to improve children’s verbal and
nonverbal communication skills,
to enhance empathy for others and
boost self-esteem. It’s never too
early to introduce your child to the
magic of theater.
TRADITIONS
Opening Night Excitement
There’s something special about opening night! We invite you to attend the opening night of each mainstage
show for some extra-special fun and surprises. More information will be available in the fall.
Free Member Day
This free day of family fun has become a Rose tradition! Activities include hands-on craft projects, storytelling, drama
games, face painting and more. The date will be announced in the fall. Space is limited and reserved exclusively for members.
Hands-On Exploration
Be sure to join us before each mainstage show for special activities designed to expand your theater experience. A variety of exciting and thoughtprovoking activities centered around the show theme will engage and entertain your family. Each show’s activity is different - you may find yourself
trying your hand at different stage techniques, creating an awesome craft or sharing your thoughts and feelings with other audience members.
All activities are offered free of charge. See the theater lobby for more information.
Remember Your Visit with an Autograph and a Memento from the Show
Be sure to stop by the mezzanine following each mainstage performance to meet your favorite characters from the show! The actors sign
autographs on the mezzanine level following each mainstage performance. Each child receives a free children’s program with space for
autographs upon arrival, but you’re welcome to bring books or items from home for signing.
Books and souvenir items related to each show title are available for purchase in the lobby before most performances. The boutique is
sponsored by The Rose Guild and all proceeds benefit Rose programming.
Get Your Questions Answered
Children are full of curious questions and our actors delight in providing them with answers. It is a long-standing tradition at The Rose to
give kids an open and honest look at how we create the magic they see on stage. A child-focused Q&A is hosted from the mainstage after
each performance. If your child still has questions after the show, we invite you to see photos taken during the production process on our
website, and to send us your questions online or in the mail. Inquiring minds want to know, and we are happy to provide the answers!
