Crew Challenge 2015
Crew Challenge is new competition being run to encourage Rover crews to think outside the box.
This year, the theme is Adventure. Will you take on the challenge?
The National Rover Council runs an annual competition aimed at encouraging Rovers to improve
push their boundaries and improve their crew’s program. The theme of this challenge changes from
year to year.
This year is the inaugural Crew Challenge, and is themed around adventurous activities. Crews are
challenged to plan and participate in an extreme adventurous activity, and promote this outside
their Rover crew. The Rover section is fortunate in the fact that it can provide its members with the
ability to go and have autonomous adventures that normally would not be possible in younger
sections.
Adventure is anything that allows you to develop or challenge yourself – it can range from
performing arts, to extreme outdoor activities and everything in between. The main focus should be
on stepping outside your comfort zone, experiencing new things and developing the members of
that Rover crew.
Directions:



With at least 25% of your Rover crew, or 4 Rovers (whichever is greater), go on an adventure
(any journey or adventurous activity as defined by entrant/s).
Challenge at least three other Rover crews to take on the Crew Challenge too. Evidence is
needed.
In participating in the adventure, some form of promotion outside of the crew needs to be
obtained. This promotion can be in any format (Scout magazines, region newsletters, group
newsletters, etc.). Evidence is needed.
Eligibility requirements:

25% of your crew, or four Rovers (whichever is greater) must participate in the challenge.




You must challenge three other Rover crews to do the Crew Challenge. Evidence needed.
You must be clearly recognisable as Rovers during your adventurous activity (Rover polo
shirts, scarves, uniforms, etc.).
You must promote your activity outside of your crew and provide evidence of this (Scout
magazines, region newsletters, group newsletters, etc.). For social media, the official
hashtags are #roversdostuff and #crewchallenge.
The activity you do must be legal and safe!
So what do I get?
The winner of the Crew Challenge 2015 will be awarded $500 to be spent on an adventurous
activity, or equipment that will help your crew participate in more adventurous activities.
Closing date:
30th September 2015. Winners will be notified following the 2016 NRC Meeting.
How to apply:
Simply send a report of the adventure should, whether written, video or power-point presentation,
or some other format to your BRC by the 30th of September. This report should summarise the
planning, implementation of the adventure, and follow-up process, and indicate participants. Copies
of the promotion outside your crew and evidence of challenging three other Rover crews need to
also be included.
The selection process:
1. Submit your entry to your BRC by the 30th of September, 2015.
2. BRCs will pick their top two entries and submit these to the NRC Vice Chair by the 31st of
October.
3. The NRC Vice Chair will post all entries received from BRCs on the Rovers Australia Facebook
page and website.
4. The voting period will be from 1 November – 15 December of each year with all Rovers
encouraged to vote.
5. The entry with the highest votes for on the 15th of December will be the winner.
6. The winning entry will be announced at the NRC Annual General Meeting each year.
