STEWARDSHIP
“Jesus Himself stood among them and said to them,
‘Peace to you.’ But they were startled and
frightened.” - Luke 24:36-37
Throughout the day we have many opportunities to
“see the face of Jesus” in others and provide some
“peace” in their lives. Just because the person is a
stranger, maybe looks different than us or is
someone we don’t particularly care for, doesn’t let us
off the hook.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
Pledge Drive Begins
The Annual Catholic Appeal will
be held in all parishes throughout
the St. Louis Archdiocese on the
weekends of April 18 & 19, April
25 & 26 and May 2 & 3. This is
the largest and most visible effort of Catholics in our
area to reach out to those in need and to support
Catholic education.
Our parish goal this year is $241,310 with a
Challenge Goal of $297,551. It will take the support
of everyone to make this happen. You can make
your pledge or donation, starting this weekend, by
filling out your card that will be in the Gathering Area
after all Masses.
If you have supported this very important cause in
the past—thank you and please continue to do so! If
you’ve never been part of the Appeal, please
prayerfully consider participating this year to make a
difference in so many people’s lives. If you would be
interested in volunteering a small amount of time to
help the committee conduct the ACA, please contact
Dawn Burger, Parish Chairperson, at 636-256-2575.

DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE!
What is Holiness? Holiness is our sharing in the
divine life of the Trinity, a profound intimacy with
God. This holiness is at the heart of Catholic
renewal: “Everything we wish to achieve in the
Church depends first and foremost upon the depth
of our response to His call to Holiness” (Archbishop
Carlson). Which saints serve as models of holiness
for you? As we’ll see next week, holiness is not just
for the saints. archstl.org/dynamic
BUILDING A CULTURE OF VOCATIONS
A misconception among some Catholics is that the
priest has an ideal job: he works one day each
week, Sunday. They forget that the other six days a
week, the priest works long and hard behind the
scenes: bringing communion to the sick and elderly,
counseling troubled families, visiting school classes,
preparing individuals for sacraments. Often the job is
frustrating, exhausting and thankless, but always of
vital importance. Take some time this week and
express appreciation to your priests for the difficult
work they do.

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER
URGENT PRAYER LINE
If you have an urgent prayer request, please call one
of the captains of the phone chain. The members of
the phone chain and e-mail chain will then offer their
prayers for your request.
On a Marriage Encounter weekend, couples have a
chance to rekindle and renew communication and their
appreciation for each other. These weekends will be
presented on April 24-26 or August 7-9. If you would like
to apply for one of these now, see the web page at
www.stl-wwme.org or simple call 314.469.7317. It is yours
for a lifetime.

BREAD AND WINE
Both the bread and the wine are food items that require not only the harvest from the
earth, but also human effort to produce. They both also require a blend of many grains of
wheat or grapes which are crushed to make the final product. These are fitting elements
to become the Body of Christ, broken for us, and the Blood of Christ, poured out for us.
Third Sunday of Easter
April 19, 2015
PA R I S H N E W S
We are seeking four individuals to become members of the
St. Clare Parish Council. You may self-nominate or nominate
another parishioner. If you or someone you know would be willing
to donate time and talents to our St. Clare Community, please
consider becoming a member of the St. Clare Parish Council. We
will be seeking nominations for four new members - from now
through May 3rd.
There are multiple methods to submit nominations and everyone in
the Parish is welcome to participate. Nominations can be submitted via
the following methods:
 Nomination forms and submission box located in the back of Church throughout the nomination period.
 Email nominations can be submitted to Msgr. Callahan - [email protected].
Please remember to include name, address, and telephone number of the individual(s) being
nominated and put “Parish Council Nomination” in the subject line of the email.
 Contacting a Parish Council Member:
President: Ken Wening, [email protected], 636.227.7718
Secretary: Julie Conrey, [email protected], 636.527.8183
Once nominated, each nominee will be contacted to confirm their acceptance to be entered into a general
drawing. The four new members will be selected and announced at the 10:00am Mass on May 10, 2015.
The following provides a brief overview of who we are, what we do, and what is required.
What is a Parish Council:
Parish Council is a group of ten-twelve individuals selected from the St. Clare membership at large that
function as an advisory body to the pastor of a Parish. Parish Council promotes the mission of the Church
by assisting with guidance on direction of how the Parish develops and responds to the Sacramental,
educational and physical life of its members. The primary task is to be constructive and directive in the
spiritual and faith-development of the Parish. They assist with consultation on major tasks and
undertakings of the Parish with focus on various events to promote both Parish life and unity.
Commitment:
The total commitment for Parish Council is a three year term. The commitment is the simple part because
it only requires your time and talents. The time commitment for Parish Council varies depending on the
issues and topics that one participates in throughout the year. The yearly commitment is on average 10
meetings per year that run approximately one to one and a half hours long. Involvement in the various
activities throughout the year could require an additional 20 – 30 hours throughout the year.
History:
The concept of a Parish Council was introduced into Parish life shortly after the Second Vatican Council.
Underlying the structure of the Parish Council is the recognition of the rights and responsibility of all the
baptized. It is participation in the ministry of the Church that allows the council to exist and provides a
means for a shared and collaborative ministry. Parish Councils are a way for
all members of the Church, priests and laity, by virtue of oneness in Jesus
Christ to satisfy baptismal responsibilities. Our role as believers is to preach
and teach the Gospel of Jesus to build the Kingdom of God on earth. As
Catholics, we do this within a communal context - a Parish. The work of a
Parish Council is the promotion of the mission of the Parish as well as that of
the Church.

Who are American Heritage Girls? AHG is a scout
program that builds young women (age 5-18) of
integrity through service to God, family, community
and country. The all-girl unit provides a nurturing
environment ripe for learning and building positive
relationships. The AHG program grows as a girl
grows and is Christ-centered and allows girls to
learn leadership skills and faith values. There are
many troops in the St. Louis area already in place
with a great troop support system, allowing girls to
earn badges, camp (both overnight and day
camping) and perform service in their communities.
Interested in joining a troop … or starting one of your
own at your parish for the 2015-2016 school year?
Come find out more!
Please contact Sue Inserra at 314-973-0710,
