General Manager Report
Golf Course Maintenance
Golf Services
The golf courses are both in exceptional condition with the main
focus remaining in managing the grass surfaces' rapid growth.
Maintenance of the gardens adjacent to the major cart path
thoroughfare from the Marine Village to the Golf Clubhouse has
begun and the area is beginning to show remarkable improvement.
Throughout April, the Club has seen a number of Major and Honour
Board Events held. The Men’s Foursomes Match Play Knockout was
contested and completed, with the eventual winning pair comprising
Brian Williams and John Whitelaw. The Ladies 4BBB Stroke Match
Play was also completed with Linda Faulls and Norma Hale
eventually taking the honours.
Golf Course Superintendent, Paul McLean, has also been busy with
the visit of Brandon Johnson, Senior Vice President and Golf Course
Architect from The Arnold Palmer Group. Brandon is completing an
inspection of The Pines Golf Course and updating to The Pines
master plan last updated in 2009.
The Maintenance Team are also preparing for the annual process of
oversowing The Pines greens. This will begin in the second week of
May and will ensure the condition of The Pines greens remains
exceptional in the winter months. Due to the amount of seed
required for this exercise, the greens attract large quantities of
birdlife during this period. Your patience is appreciated when this
occurs and it shall cease in a short period of time. Any Local Rules
required during this period will be communicated by the Golf
Services team.
In the week prior to the US Masters, both the Sanctuary Cove Men’s
and Ladies Masters Champions were named, with Duncan Forrest
and Pam Martin winning their respective competition. The winners
were presented with their green jackets on the day of the event.
Due to Don McBride being involved in the Men’s Foursomes Match
Play Finals, the Billings Cup, which was scheduled to be played on
the same day, was rescheduled until a later date. The Pines Cup was
also contested in April, capping off an extremely busy month of
events, with the Men’s Pines Cup being won by Chris Smale. The
Ladies Pines Cup was not played due to rain and will be contested
on Thursday 14 May.
The Queensland Senior Teams Challenge also commenced in April, with
Captain Marshall Leigh managing the team. The team suffered a loss in
their first match against Brisbane Golf Club, however they had a victory
against Nudgee Golf Club in the subsequent fixture.
Golf Course Superintendent, Paul McLean, has also been busy

Food and Beverage
April hosted the Spirit of the ANZAC’s Tribute, an event held in The
Jabiru Restaurant and attended by a number of Members. The event
was an outstanding success which all who attended thoroughly
enjoyed. The event offered an opportunity for the attendees to pay
their respects to the men and women who have provided such an
unselfish service to this country. Our thanks must go to the Social
Committee for their tireless efforts, ensuring these events continue
to occur at the Golf Club and at such a high standard.
The next major event to be hosted at The Country Club will be the
annual Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea (ABMT) on Tuesday 19 May.
ABMT provides support to Cancer Council QLD and in 2014 ABMT
supporters raised $11.9 million. The fun-filled event includes fashion,
beauty, lucky door prizes and much more. Bookings are available for
this event up until Tuesday 12 May and can be made by contacting
the Golf Club on 07 5699 9000. For further details, please refer to the
upcoming events section.
Other
Country Club
The Country Club has attracted a number of external Members over
the first four months of the year with a net gain of 37 Country Club
Members.
The tenancies located in The Country Club have also continued to
improve the facilities holistic offering, with a range of services
available. Health and wellbeing needs are serviced by PMP Pilates
Studios and Body and Sole Beauty Therapists, whilst the golf-related
tenants comprising of Cool Clubs, PGA IGI, the Queensland Division
of the Australian PGA and ANK Golf Academy continue to offer their
support to the Club.
The Grille Room has played host to a number of functions including
weddings, corporate golf days and the heavily attended PTBC Town
Meeting. With over 200 local residents attending the meeting, the
Club once again provided the necessary requirements for not only
operating as a Country Club, but also catering to the needs of the
wider Sanctuary Cove Community.
Over 100 Members attended the Members’ Information Evening on
Thursday 23 April which provided both the Board and the Membership
the opportunity to communicate openly about future plans and
current issues. The evening was informative and well received by the
majority in attendance.
The Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Holdings Limited AGM
was also hosted in April, one week after the Members’ Information
Evening. The major issues discussed at this meeting were two
resolutions to the Holdings Constitution, both of which were passed.
Further details relating to these amendments will be communicated
at a later date.
The Board would like to take this opportunity to thank all who
attended and participated in shaping the future of the Club through
utilising their right to vote.

Captain’s Report
Congratulations to our ladies in scoring three holes in one over the
last couple of weeks including that great shot by Annie Sinclair to win
the Mercedes-Benz car! Now guys, you are being left behind here
somewhat. I know a lot of shots are going close, but we need to lift
our game to at least match the ladies.
Peter Ramsay has been hard at work in getting a “Nine and Dine”
going on a Thursday with 30 to 40 Club Members taking part. The next
“Nine and Dine” is a shotgun start at 2:30pm on Thursday 21 May. If
you would like to join in, please contact Peter at 5514 8862 or email
[email protected]
You will notice a number of areas around the Clubhouse and the
greens are being roped off. The growing season is beginning to
come to an end and buggy traffic in these “prohibited areas” is
causing significant damage. I would ask for your cooperation in
keeping off these areas.
A calendar item for you – The Sanctuary Cove Trophy is being held
on The Pines on 16 and 17 July. This is a sanctioned Seniors Amateur
event between Australia and New Zealand. It is a Ryder Cup format
over two days and comprises teams of 12. Over the eight years of its
history, this competition has provided some very close finishes and I
am sure 2015 will be no exception. You are all invited to come along
and enjoy the event and support your team.
As winter approaches, our Greens staff are planning a continuation
of our bunker renovations. I am hopeful we can succeed in
completing most, if not all of this programme. Again, this may pose
some inconveniences, but I am sure you will agree the outcome
evidenced by the 2014 result will be well worth the wait.

Lady Captain’s Report
Sunday 26 April saw the completion of our first Honour Board Event
of the year, the 4BBB Stroke Match Play. The match was played in
great spirit and congratulations go to Linda Faulls and Norma Hale
who prevailed over Madonna Siokos and Narelle Norris. Well done
to all who entered.
The first ‘Away Day’ of the year was played on 7 May at the Glades
Golf Club. Playing away at The Glades provided an interesting
challenge for our golfers in a 4BBB team format, and the chance to
experience a different style of golf course.
On 15 May the Ladies’ Golf Committee are hosting an information
morning tea at The Country Club. The morning tea will provide a
forum, giving all our lady golfers an opportunity to come together in
a social format to address any golfing issues. Lady Members are
encouraged to submit topics for discussion, with golf course
etiquette, handicapping and commonly faced rules already on the
agenda for clarification.
Our courses are in great shape at the moment and in an effort to
keep them in good condition, Members are reminded that our carts
are to remain on the cart path at the tee box and near the green and
to enter the fairway at 90 degrees.

Ocean Shores Junior Classic
Queensland Foursomes
Great effort by some of Michael Jones’ junior
students at the Ocean Shores Junior Classic
on Sunday 22 March. Eloise Taylor (12yrs) won
the Nett 62, Gross 76, her PB by 8 shots.
Isabelle and Eloise Taylor did very well in the
Queensland Foursomes at Wynnum Golf
Club on Sunday 29 March; coming Runnersup. A great result for the first time they have
teamed up together.
Lion Higo (12yrs) achieved Runner-up with 88
Gross, 68 Nett, also her PB in a tournament.
Isabelle Taylor (15yrs) shot 76 to finish in the
top 5 in the Girls’ Gross. Also, well done to
Shyla Singh and Declan Coleman who
achieved good results.
The Isabelle and Ellie combination could be
a team to watch come the Foursomes
Championships later in the year.

Congratulations also to Lion Higo who won
best nett overall in the 2015 Brisbane and
District Junior Girls Championship at
Virginia Golf Club.
Her score of 83 Gross, 66 Nett is a new PB
for Lion and a reward for lots of hard work
and developing more self-confidence on
course.
Australian Junior Age Championships
Congratulations go to all Sanctuary Cove players who competed
successfully over the three days of the Australian Junior Age
Championships at Capricorn Resort in Yeppoon from 15 to 17 April.
Isabelle Taylor had a great tournament, winning the girls 13 to 14 age
group. This has qualified her for the Australian team to compete at
the Veritas World Juniors in California, July 2015. Isabelle's scores of
77, 72 and 81 were the best of all female participants.
Eloise Taylor finished a close second in her age group, behind a
Sunshine Coast girl who has won numerous tournaments over the
past 12 months.
Great effort by Lion Higo finishing third in her age group, and
Jamie Smith fifth in this very competitive age group.

Congratulations to Boys’ Champion Bailey Knoll and Girls’ Champion Shyla Singh.
Well played Mitch Varley, who pushed Bailey all the way to the last hole, a great effort coming back from injury.

Rule of the Month: Rule 31 – Four-Ball Stroke Play
Either player can represent a side and you don’t both have to be
present. If your partner is late they may join you between holes
but not during play of a hole. You must make sure that whichever
players’ score is to count for the hole, it is marked in the correct
players’ column on your scorecard or you will be disqualified.
You can play in whatever order your side considers to be the
most advantageous. If you play a wrong ball (Rule 15-3b) you
incur the penalty, not your partner – even if the wrong ball
belonged to your partner.
Your side is penalised if either player has breached Rule 4-4 (too
many clubs), Rule 6-4 (Caddie) or any Local Rule or Condition of
Competition when there is a maximum penalty per round.
If your breach of a Rule assists your partner, your partner will incur
the applicable penalty along with any penalty you incurred. In all
other cases where you incur a penalty, it applies only to you, not
your partner (Rule 31-8).
Under Rule 31-7 the following are Disqualification Penalties:
a. Breach by One Partner
A side is disqualified from the competition if either partner incurs a
penalty of disqualification under any of the following:

Beginners’ Lessons Underway
The first of Sue Spurway’s very popular series of beginner lessons was held on 8 April. 36 players attended and were introduced to the basics of
Bridge, using the Mini-Bridge concept. The Club is looking forward to continuing the beginners’ experiences with Supervised Play commencing
directly after the lessons have finished on 3 June. Thank you to Sue and her helpers who are doing a great job with this large group.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
New Members Welcome and Cocktail Party
We are proud to be hosting an event for Australia’s Biggest Morning
Tea (ABMT) again in 2015. ABMT is an annual event supporting the
Cancer Council QLD. In 2014, ABMT supporters have helped raise
$11.9 million. Every dollar raised helps to fund more cancer research,
prevention programs and support services.
On Friday 19 June the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Board
and Management will be hosting the second New Members
Welcome and Cocktail Party for 2015, welcoming new Equity
Members of the Club.
Our fun-filled morning will include fashion, beauty, lucky door prizes,
raffles with a wide range of prizes, and much more.
