A Message from our Event Chair, Lee Pinto
Welcome to the annual Butterfly Ball! We hope tonight will surprise and
delight you as well as inspire your support of Avow’s hospice, palliative
care, and bereavement services for adults and children.
Both of my parents received hospice services from Avow. The medical
care was wonderful but what I remember most is how the staff made
my parents feel. Instead of being frightened, my parents felt grateful
and safe during their final journey. Their experiences are why I
volunteer as a board member, event chairperson and patient visitor.
One patient that I visited regularly was worried about not knowing
anyone in Heaven upon arrival. She was also sad about leaving her dog
behind. I gave her photos of my mother and my dog, both of whom I
had recently lost. I reassured her that when she arrived in Heaven my
Mom would look out for her and she could take care of my dog. To ease
her worry about her own dog, I arranged to adopt it.
Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned people will forget what you said,
people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you
made them feel.”
Avow gentles the journey and they do it with all their heart!

Dr. Mark Moskowitz and his wife Louise are proud to be

Avow was founded in 1983 as Collier County’s original, nonprofit
hospice. Today, Avow cares not only for those who are terminally
ill, but also for those who have chronic illnesses or who have
suffered great loss.
Services provided by Avow companies include:
• Care for the dying and their families, plus community
members who are grieving
• Palliative care physician consultations and outpatient care
for the chronically and seriously ill
• Support, through our PAWS Pet Program, for those who
have lost a pet
• A “healing, learning and celebrating” space for the
community through the Ispiri center on our campus
• Education for the community on topics related to serious
illness, caregiving, death and grieving
Your contributions tonight support the Avow Promise 2 Give
fundraising campaign which seeks to raise funds to:
• Maintain Avow’s exceptional hospice care operations
• Grow Avow’s new outpatient palliative care service and seed a
pediatric palliative program that will offer extended support to
children with serious and chronic illnesses
• Construct a new building on the Avow campus to house a
new palliative care clinic, private rooms for bereavement
counseling and much needed office and meeting space for the
palliative and hospice clinical teams
