NO SCREENING GOOD FRIDAY 3 APRIL
Dear Babinda P-12 School Community,
Take a Stand Against Bullying Day
Last Friday was the annual Say No to Bullying day and our school’s
annual parade for this event. Students wore orange on the day and
celebrated with an icy cup. On this parade the student leaders and I
talked about the effect of bullying on students and the greater
responsibility we all have to put a stop to it across our nation and in our school. Babinda P-12
has very low incidences of bullying but we will continue to work hard to stamp out every single
instance of it.
The way we do this is by making it everybody’s business and taking a stand together – so as a
school both staff and students we undertook a pledge to not bully and to not stand by while
others are being bullied. Students were reminded that when they see or experience bullying
they can:




Say no,
Tell a member of staff,
Drop it in our bully box outside the TLC room or
Text or message the issue in via our school mobile line on 0408 759 940 or
through a personal message on facebook.
All reports are always treated anonymously, are investigated and acted upon. Any Student
found to have bullied three times will have this behaviour met with a suspension. Should you
or your child ever have any concerns please make contact through the office as soon as
possible. Remember if we don’t know we can’t act.
After School Sport
A reminder that afterschool sport has finished for the term and will commence again on the
third Monday of next term. Also from next term this activity will again be funded by the federal
government through the Sporting Schools’ initiative.
Happy Easter
On Thursday, students from our Prep, 1 and 2 classes, spread the Easter spirit around town
with their Easter bonnet parade. The students walked down and through the town, sharing
their Easter cheer. The students were surprised with Easter eggs by many of the local
businesses and I thank them for getting in the spirit and for their support. The parade
culminated with a visit to Abbeyfield and Respite where the students shared songs they have
been learning. The morning was great fun for the students and for everyone involved.
Thanks to the teachers for organising this and the parent helpers who came along.

Library News
One of our photos from the Book Fair last year was chosen to be used in this year’s Book
Fair Guide Planner. Out of about 5,000 schools they chose our photo!! Not bad for a small
school and again credit must go to Mr. Chris Hannam for his wonderful imagination in
designing our display.
We have also started Book Reviews by students which will be printed
in the Post-ed of the Cairns Post on a Tuesday. Hopefully we can
have 1 lot of reviews printed every term.
Quote by Alan Bennett ‘A book is a device to ignite the imagination’
James Steven:
James has literally had a “flying” start to a fantastic year. He has joined Christopher at TAFE studying a Certificate IV in
Fitness and recently competed in the IMP (Indigenous Marathon Project) in Cairns. He will find out in April if he is a part of
the squad who will then run the New York Marathon.
Lunch time Art & Craft with Georgina
Fine motor movements involve the coordination of small
muscles in the hands and fingers. Strong fine motor
skills are essential to complete tasks such as writing,
cutting with scissors, using a fork or spoon, threading
beads, moving puzzle pieces, zipping, buttoning, and
tying shoe laces.
Last week we created Easter bunnies with movable
arms, legs, ears and head. This involved using our fine
motor skills to colour the bunny, cut around the various
parts with scissors, use a hole punch, and pin the parts
together.
The end results were colourful Easter bunnies and lots of
excitement from our Prep to Year 3 students.
Good luck James and congratulations on your success so far!
Indigenous Leaders of Tomorrow:
A 3-day conference will be held in Cairns next term in May for our Year 11 and 12 Indigenous students. The aim of this school-based
mentoring program is to assist students to develop a skills base that enables them to be effective leaders in their schools, families and
communities. More information will become available soon.
NAIDOC:
The National NAIDOC Committee are pleased to announce the 2015 National NAIDOC theme – We all Stand on Sacred
Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate. NAIDOC will be celebrated at our school in Term 3. Until then please consider how
you and your family
can contribute to this special occasion that brings our school community together to enjoy a selection of cultural experiences,
including dance performances, colourful art displays, traditional games and traditional foods.
