We certainly have had a lot of April Showers (and thunderstorms). I’m ready for some May flowers. Thank you for your inputs concerning the possibility of filing for IRS 501c3 status-especially Kristina Shapiro who volunteered to help us. Equal Pay Day 2015 Activities: April 14: Jan and I helped with an UNEQUAL Bake Sale in the Rotunda at the State Capital. We sold cookies and oranges - $1.00 for men and $.66 for women. All the cookies were sold and most of the oranges. It was interesting. Some of the men (legislators or lobbyists) just took some. I guess it is acceptable behavior for some of the men in Louisiana. April 16: Unhappy Hour at JiJi’s. Thank you JiJi. In spite of the nasty weather, it was well attended with members and guests and the refreshments were great! Melodia was there and contributed information and activities. April 22: I attended hearings at the legislature relevant to Equal Pay. Camille Moran (north LA) and Julie Harris (NOLA) testified. In spite of support from a number of members of the audience present, neither bill was voted out of Committee. The 2015 Annual Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 9th. Please put on your calendar. Details are on Page 3. The next scheduled board meeting is the planning meeting July 12, hopefully at the Goodwood Library. In addition to current board members and newly elected ones, all members are welcome to attend. Women’s Week is scheduled for September 25 through October 4. We still need a few people to help with our events. If you can participate with one or more events, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE contact Jan Koellen at [email protected] you!! If you are new to AAUW or just interested in becoming more involved, don’t forget to check the rest of the newsletter for the various activities and signup for those that interest you. After May, there will be new schedules for each group. Just email or call the contact person. Hope to see you all at the Annual Meeting.
