PRINCIPAL'S REPORT http://bssns.businesscatalyst.com/CampaignProcess.aspx?A=View&Data=EKuWwTL... 27/04/2015 Page 4 of 11 Welcome back to school and winter uniform We hope that all families enjoyed their break and we are looking forward to a great term. As winter is fast approaching it is important parents ensure their children have the correct uniform as listed in our school “Dress Code”. As well as the summer uniform, children in winter are also allowed to wear the following: royal blue and gold microfibre jacket with white piping and school logo royal blue track pants and cardigan/jumper/sweatshirt/skivvy, etc. or royal blue tracksuit with school logo (for winter wear) . • navy blue or royal blue tights. • • Other winter items of clothing are not permitted unless the weather conditions are extreme. Traditionally, winter is also a time when our lost property seems to increase. Please ensure you label all pieces of clothing clearly. Bulimba community Anzac Day parade Saturday 25 April Children in Prep – Year 6 who would like to march in their school uniform with our school in the local community march on Saturday 25 April are welcome to assemble outside the Bulimba C&K at 7.15am. Parents can choose to either march with their children or join us at the completion of the march at Memorial Park to be with their children during the Anzac Day service. The Bulimba Historical Society has been comparing Defence Department Records and the Bulimba State School enrolment register to develop a list of past students who enlisted in WW1. At this stage their research indicates that 83 Bulimba State School Students enlisted, 16 of these were killed in action at Gallipoli and 18 were killed in action in France and Belgium. One particularly sad statistic is the Blake family who lost 3 sons, Ernest, Fredrick and Walter between September 1914 and November 1915. Our freedom and lifestyle is owed to these brave and selfless soldiers Chook roster thanks and invitation to join our roster in term 2 We would like thank the families which gave their time to help look after our chooks in the holidays. If you would like to help out on weekends this term, please email [email protected]. As in previous terms, a full list of what to do is provided and support and help is offered if you don’t know what to do. We really appreciate the support of parents and rely on your help and support to keep this program going. Please join the fun and take your kids “to the country” in Bulimba this weekend. Illness at school Children should not come to school if they are sick. This increases the risk of spreading their illness onto other children and staff. We have a number of children at our school who have low immunity and it can be very dangerous for their health if they are exposed to certain diseases. We appreciate parents letting us know if their child has a disease diagnosed by a GP such as Chicken Pox. http://bssns.businesscatalyst.com/CampaignProcess.aspx?A=View&Data=EKuWwTL... 27/04/2015 Page 5 of 11 At all times we encourage parents to seek the support of their GP if their children are sick especially if they have a temperature and a persistent cough. Medications at school All medication at school needs to be dispensed through the office, unless special permission from the office has been obtained. Parents must sign the medication form in the office and provide the medication with the pharmacist’s label on it. Please note, we are not allowed to give over the counter medication to children at school. 2016 Prep enrolments Do you have a child that is due to start Prep in 2016? Please ensure you have contacted our office and placed their name on our “2016 Expression of Interest” list. We will be sending invitations to parents to attend our Prep Information Sessions which will be held early in term 3. Invitations to the Prep Information Sessions will be drawn from the names on our “2016 Expression of Interest” list. Bulimba new classrooms and resource centre In 2014 through advocacy by the P&C and School Council the State Government reviewed the original $4 million budget for the new Bulimba building to $6 million. Detailed site considerations and studies have been done to determine the best site to be recommended for this new building. The recommended site is where the current C Block stands, the timber Preschool and Prep building. The attached link provides information about this project and requests your input and ideas. Please take the time to respond to this survey as you opinion is important. http://freeonlinesurveys.com/s.asp?sid=46dmlwzkiwsvmtg644999 Michael Zeuschner Sheryl Kennedy Jillian Blennerhassett Principal Deputy Principal Deputy Principal P&C REPORT New sign Have you seen the new electronic sign on the bottom oval? Swim club report On a balmy Brisbane evening of 19 March 2015 the Bulimba Darts Swim Club held the end of season championships in the school pool. This was the culmination of http://bssns.businesscatalyst.com/CampaignProcess.aspx?A=View&Data=EKuWwTL... 27/04/2015 Page 9 of 11 17 weeks of meets and events since the season commenced in October 2014. The races were organised by age and gender. Points were awarded by time swum for the specific event through each age group. The competition was tight across the board which resulted in many races having a close finish. Of special note was that many competitors lived the school motto of 'playing the game' by swimming a personal best, or close to it. All four swimming strokes were raced. The following week (26 March) was presentation night at the club where two categories of winners were presented with their awards. The first was the age champions based on the results at the previous week's championships. Several were first time winners for their age, others are perennial champs. For some it represented the first win after several years of Swim Club, showing the persistence and resilience of our young swimmers. We are very pleased to announce them as follows: 6 years and under Oscar Day and Danielle Sandoval O'Mara 7 years Cooper Biddles and Emma Donaldson 8 years Thomas Mitchell and Victoria Babkov 9 years Tie – Harry Whitting & Tom Mollee and Charlotte Mitchell 10 years Liam Swift and Sofia Marzano 11 years James Macpherson and Maddie White 12 years Hayden Swift and Maddie Mitchell Also awarded on the night were the Points Champions. This award is based on a formula of attendance, swimming multiple events/strokes and most importantly improving your personal best time throughout the season. This represents a determination for improvement and having a go even when you are not great at an event. The award is broken up into two age brackets. Age 9 and under then age 10 and over. This season’s winners are: Senior Boy - Liam Swift Senior Boy (runner up) Hayden Swift Senior Girl - Maddie Mitchell Senior Girl (runner up) - Maddie White Junior Boy - Tarquin Clarke Junior Boy (runner up) - Harry Whitting Junior Girl - Victoria Babkov Junior Girl (runner up) - Emma Donaldson All other competitors and members were awarded a meritorious trophy. All swimmers' times had improved across the board - a great sign that the club is achieving our aim of competitive swimming in a fun environment. On behalf of the Swim Club committee, I say a most generous and grateful thank you to all the parents who make Swim Club possible by volunteering their time, effort and helping out at the meets as well as simply getting the kids there on time. One final thanks from the new Committee Chair to the retiring Chair. Rob Mitchell has given countless hours to managing and running swim club, as has his wife Jody who made sure the canteen was stocked and run week to week. Other committee members have also stepped down this year after years of faithful service including: Peta Swift, Katrina Whitting, Kate Glass and more recently Mukesh Panchal. Keep an eye out for updates in winter so you can mark your calendar to come along for the sign on night of the new season commencing on Thursday night the first week back in term 4. That is all from Bulimba Darts Swim Club for this season, when we bid farewell to many established senior swimmers and welcomed many new faces. We welcome any enquires in the meantime to [email protected] Greg Donaldson http://bssns.businesscatalyst.com/CampaignProcess.aspx?A=View&Data=EKuWwTL... 27/04/2015 Page 10 of 11 MESSAGES FROM LOCAL BUSINESSES Australian Fitness & Martial Arts Australian Fitness & Martial Arts have beginner’s classes starting now at Cannon Hill on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
