Year 6 students are trained as leaders.
Peer Support Groups of about 12 students are formed. Groups contain 2
or 3 leaders (depending on total number of Year 6 students), and 1 or 2
children from each year level.
Peer Support Groups meet each Thursday in term 2 from 12.00pm –
12.30pm.
Each group is allocated a set meeting place/venue.
How can Parents help us?
There will be a meeting of parent helpers to discuss the process for each
session and how you can assist the leaders to be effective with their group.
Our goal is to make the Peer Support experience as rewarding and enjoyable
for all students as possible.
If you are able to help us please contact your child’s teacher or the office.

CODE OF CONDUCT
"Children have the right to attend
school".
Responsibilities
Explanation
Children have the responsibility to
attend school.
After absence of 3 days
perants will be contacted by
phone or mail. Classes
begin at 8.45am.
Parents must ensure children
attend school. We all have the
responsibility to present ourselves
for classes on time.
Where a child rides or walks to
school, parents have the
responsibility to notify the school of
a child's absence by 9.00am.
These procedures are to
alert us to the possibility of
a child in "danger".
Parents are responsible for
children to and from school. If
parents wish to telephone and
check whether their child has
arrived at school, they should have
their child report to the office upon
arrival at school.
Children have the responsibility to
be ready to learn and teacher
ready to teach.
Ready to learn means
having books, pencils, etc.
ready for each lesson.
We all have the responsibility to do
our best.
At all times children will;
•
•
follow teachers'
instructions.
respect the right of
others while being
allowed to make
mistakes.
We all have the responsibility to
consider other people's right to an
undisturbed learning environment.
Undisturbed learning
environment is a place
where you can: listen, be
heard, be safe and work
uninterrupted.
We all have the responsibility to
move from place to place without
disturbing others.
This means WALKING
quietly.

Master Teacher
At the end of 2014, as part of the Queensland Government’s Great Teachers
Great Results Guarantee, 300 Master Teacher positions were created across
the state. Master Teachers are an additional resource in schools. They work
with the school leadership team to prioritise the teaching of literacy and
numeracy. Sue Filips was the successful applicant for Master Teacher at our
school.
In consultation with the Principal, my role includes identifying successful
research based strategies which will continue to enhance teacher
expertise and improve learning outcomes for all our students. In addition
to this, I support teachers in the classroom through coaching and
modelling; as well as facilitating conversations around student data.
Bulimba State School is committed to professional excellence in teaching.
I look forward to working as part of the Leadership team to continue our
focus on success for every student.
Dogs at school
We are pleased that many families are taking the opportunity to be healthy and
green and walk to school to relieve traffic congestion, as a bit of extra exercise
and often with the family dog. Parents who bring dogs onto our school premises
are reminded that they have the responsibility.
•
•
•
•
Dogs are supervised at all times and in interactions with school children
Keep their dog on a leash and under control (a short leash is best in
school)
Clean up and remove from the school site any dog faeces
Aggressive or dangerous dogs should not be brought into the school
grounds
Children should not approach a dog without first seeking permission of the
handler.
At Bulimba we also have a working dog named Mia. She is a golden Labrador.
When Mia is working she wears an orange vest. At this time she should not be
approached to be patted. When Mia is not working she often wears a bandana
around her neck and at this time it is appropriate to approach Mia’s handler to
pat or talk to the dog.
Communications with school staff
At Bulimba we make every effort to make learning exciting and engaging for our
students. However there are times when school staff may need to approach
parents about illness of a student, behaviour or learning. Sometimes these
messages may be of a positive nature or sometimes about an issue or concern.
It is important the conversation and communication remains constructive,
respectful and supportive of a successful outcome for the student.
It is also important to consider your responses to emails. Is it appropriate to
REPLY ALL? Consider the consequences of this action. It may be better to
REPLY and clarify the situation in a one to one before telegraphing your views
to the world. REPLY ALL may alienate a parent or child from the rest of the
class if the response is inappropriate, defamatory of the school, teacher, P&C,
another parent or child.
We all work hard to make our school the best school it can be. Let’s all work
together.

Religious instruction program Easter
concert
On Wednesday 1 April our annual Religious Instruction Program Easter Concert
will be held in the Michael Zeuschner Community hall. This concert is conducted
by our Religious Instruction teachers as part of the program conducted by them
in our school. Children who participate in the program will be attending the
concert, however children who do not usually attend the Religious Instruction
program can attend with a written note from their parents. The concert will be
from 8.45am – 9.30am.
Brisbane South chess tournament
The Brisbane South Chess Tournament was held on Thursday 19 March at
Stretton State College. We had 14 students competing in 4 teams. Benjamin
Mollee, Cruz Savage, Harrison Wilkes and Thomas Mollee played in the A
Grade and placed 4th overall in their grade. Adam Wyatt, James Cane, Max
Kennedy and Patrick Cox played in the B Grade and placed 3rd. Emily Cane,
Grace Cox, Isabella Cannons, and Zach Wyatt played in the first C Grade
team and placed 8th. Joshua Tanner and Thomas Dwyer made up a half team
in C Grade and were able to place 19th which was great effort considering they
were 2 players short in their team. All the students had a wonderful day and
were great representatives for their school. Thanks to the parents Amanda Lay,
Tim Wyatt, Julie Cane, Melanie Cox and Sheryl Kennedy who provided
transport and supervision for the day. Without this wonderful support our
students would not be able to take part in tournaments like these.
