Hello again,
New Building Work
As you can see A Block is now gutted and the rebuilding process will commence over the next few
weeks. When this work starts, there will be a fence that will run from the old tennis courts to the
building site. This will mean that access to the back of the oval will be blocked for part of each day.
Please take note of this if you are using that point to drop your children off at school.
Athletics Day
The Cairns West State School Athletics Day will this year be held at Barlow Park on Wednesday 3
June. All students will travel by bus, to and from Barlow Park, on the day. There will be buses
available to help transport parents and community members wanting to attend. Letters will be sent
home tomorrow.
Attendance – Everyday Counts!
23 - 26 June Yr 6 Camp, Tinaroo
Cairns West continues to have a strong focus on 100% attendance. Please remind your children every
day that school is important and help us to get all of our students to school every day. The number of
students qualifying for the 100% club is growing! I look forward to seeing the results of the last 5
weeks.

Everyday counts at CWSS. Students attending school every day on time is critical in setting your child
up for success in life. Next week we will be reviewing which of our students have reached 95%
attendance for the past 5 weeks of school. These students will be invited to join our Academic
Success Guarantee program. This is an agreement between students, families and school to ensure
children who are attending school regularly reach year level benchmarks. Please help us in assisting
your child’s development by sending your child to school every day. Keep an eye out for further ASG
information coming out soon and please feel free to speak to a staff member regarding this program.

Market Day continues to be held every Thursday morning. The tea and coffee is free and everyone is
welcome to grab a cuppa and stop for a yarn with other parents/carers in the school.
Parenting is a full time job and at times can be a challenging one. Getting to know other parents in
the school and having a yarn can be fun and often helpful to know that many of us struggle with the
same issues.

Attendance News
100% Attendance Certificates will be going home with students next week. We look forward to
welcoming more students into the 100% club this Term. Those students who continue to achieve
100% attendance for the entire Term will earn themselves an attendance wristband and Term 2
button. Last Term 154 students were rewarded with these attendance bands and buttons. We are
hoping for even more this Term.
CWSS staff would like to thank you for continuing to send your children to school every day. Please
remember to notify the school via phone or text message if you child is away for any reason.

Multicultural Festival
This year 5B will be running the plant stall in the Multicultural Festival and we would like some
help from any of the green thumbs out there, if you are willing to pot up some cuttings or do some
planting for the festival. If you are not a gardener you can still help. Donations of cuttings, potting
mix, pots, and plants would be greatly appreciated. We would like to offer well established plants
this year, so I am starting early on the preparations. Any donations can be dropped off to F Block
just behind the tuckshop. Thanks Julie Burke and 5B
