ANVILL-LTI: Speech Tools for your LMS

This workshop introduces the latest version of ANVILL-LTI (A National Virtual Language Lab), a free, web-based application focused on
speech and the design of interactive tasks for listening comprehension and discussion.
ANVILL-LTI gives: 1) language students a means to practice spoken language and respond to a variety of tasks; 2) language teachers a
fast and easy way to create and share multimedia material, 3) online teachers new ways to interact with their students; and 4) language
centers a set of ad-free tools that require little support and integrate with the institution’s existing LMS.
VidéoTech, an Open Educational Resource and a Collaborative Workspace for Language Teaching and Learning

Creating comprehension activities that are current, relevant and customized can be challenging. This workshop, for teachers and designers,
will provide a hands-on introduction to VidéoTech’s new editor which makes creating customized multimedia exercises in any language a
breeze. VidéoTech is a cost and copyright-free project originally created for French, recently opened for content development in other languages. Participants will work individually or in groups to create exercises with video or web links. We will also introduce VidéoTech’s
search and collaborative tools which allow teachers to share materials with the VidéoTech community, and to copy and repurpose
1ctiveties created by others.

The BOLDD Collaboratory offers this full day workshop to prepare participants to ask the right questions and get good answers about the
design and delivery of online courses for lower level language learning. We follow a basic ADDIE model (analysis, design, development,
integration, evaluation) with heavy emphasis on backward design. Ample examples are drawn from our own experiences as online designers and instructors. This year we will be including design and delivery for mobile learning, critical languages (Arabic), chained tasks and
GoogleFlows.

Top 10 Technology Tools for Language Teachers and Learners Beyond the Classroom

Finding and selecting from the ever-increasing number of web tools, mobile apps and free multimedia software available today can be
daunting! This hands-on workshop allows the participants to explore various free tools and incorporate them into their own instructional
designs or virtual learning environments. The participants can use the lab computers and bring their own smartphones to the workshop. A
demo on the design and use of the top 10 technology tools for foreign language teachers and learners will be provided. The demo will also
include incorporating four tools into Blackboard as embedded widgets making them very convenient to use.
Developing Great Video for Language Courses: A Flipped Workshop

Conducted by: Luca Giupponi and Daniel Trego
In this flipped workshop, participants will analyze quality instructional videos and will learn how to produce videos using a variety of already accessible tools. They will also learn ways to encourage interaction between students and the content, as well as how to plan bulk
production in order to reduce average production time. Finally, participants will engage in a series of hands-on tutorials that will allow
them to leave this workshop with a sample finished product as well as a plan for implementation in their local context. Engagement with
online learning materials before the workshop is required.

and exhibits) and the Wolf Law (presentations) buildings. There will be an opening reception and keynote on

LODGING INFORMATION On Campus Housing
Rooms are available through the university and an online form will be available mid-spring semester. Reservations are by
room packages – nights and meals – and those choices may be seen also on the CALICO website. Room service will include
a linen package (one set of non-fitted sheets, two towels, one washcloth), pillow, pillowcase, blanket and bedspread. There is
no housekeeping service in individual guest rooms. Housekeeping service is provided in restrooms and public areas. All
rooms are non-smoking. Rooms are furnished with extra-long twin beds, dresser, bookcase, desk and closet. Telephones are
not provided in rooms and phone jacks are not active. A microfridge (microwave, refrigerator, and freezer) is provided in each
room. Telephone wake-up service is not provided. TVs are located in building lounges. Parking is by permit only.
