McQuaid, William Leonard, Brian Leonard, Spencer Quinn, Michael
Petry, and William Hepner. The 7th grade championship team, Spicy

7th grade ELA teachers and students are organizing a fundraiser on

will benefit the nonprofit organization The HALO foundation. The
mission of HALOS is to provide support and advocacy for abused and
neglected children and kinship caregivers.
Cario students will be holding a bazaar on May 9th under the awning
by the afternoon car rider line beside the gym parking lot. Here they
will be selling crafts, baked goods, books, small items, works of art and
musical performances.
Donations needed at the door include car-seats, diapers, wipes,
Walmart gift cards, toiletries, gifts, and other helpful items.
HALOS Fundraiser
Where: Cario Middle School
When: 5/9 from 10:00-2:00
Events: Student led bazaar
featuring goods for purchase.

This all stems from a Cario student, Chap Hodges, winning an essay
contest designed to persuade the Mt. Pleasant community to support
a local non-profit. We are very proud of Chap and his efforts. We
hope ALL of you are able to stop by Cario this coming Saturday to
support this important effort!
This year was the first year of the middle school Quiz Bowl. Cario
Social Studies teacher, Eric Baker, was instrumental in bringing this
opportunity to local middle schools. Cario students finished second
among all schools in the tournament for the entire year that
consisted of teams from Cario, Buist, Moultrie, and Laing. Cario hosted
the pre-season tournament on December 10, with other schools
hosting the regular season events. Cario’s team consisted of students
Bohan Wang, Kevin Phan, Drew Marx, Hannah Ward, Stephen Hilton,
Harrison Paul, Lauren Forni, and Parker Owens. A big thank you to Mr.
Baker and all the other Cario teachers and administrators who helped
with these events!
Congratulations to the Cario Chess Team! On Saturday, April 18th,
Cario’s chess players competed in a tournament at Belle Hall
Elementary. This was their last tournament of an extremely successful
year. Great job to all of our players.
