Pediatric Feeding Disorders can impact the quality of the lives of children and lead to health issues due to poor
nutrition. Many children with developmental disabilities present the special challenge of pediatric swallowing
disorders. Feeding problems are often intertwined with speech issues. It is essential for individuals working with
children with feeding issues to understand the interplay between oral motor skills, respiration, gastrointestinal
functioning, nutrition and learned behaviors to improve quality of life and clinical outcomes.
In this workshop you will learn to assess and treat a wide range of feeding disorders with confidence. You will acquire
easy to implement assessment strategies to treat the whole child by taking into account the role of respiratory and
gastrointestinal dysfunction along with other systems that can indirectly contribute to a feeding issue. By identifying
hidden factors that play a role in a child’s feed dysfunction you will significantly improve outcomes and overall
nutrition. By the end of the day, you will have a toolbox of effective interventions and behavior modifications you can
implement immediately for dysphagia, cleft palate, and tube-feeding, from birth to early adolescence.
