Letter From the Parochial Vicar
Dear Friends,
It really is unbelievable how fast our journey through Lent has gone. It seems just like yesterday that we all got
our ashes on Ash Wednesday to mark the beginning of Lent and now we are holding Palms on Palm Sunday,
which remind us we are entering into Holy Week. Time really flies.
Of course we know that in addition to the ashes and palms we received on Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday,
our Lent has been marked by a lot of prayer, fasting and almsgiving – three disciplines that helped guide us
through this season and hopefully helped us turn our hearts back to God.
So Palm Sunday leads us into Holy Week and all its celebrations that prepare us for the holiest day of the year
– Easter.
Let’s finish our Lenten journey strong and make this a Holy Week that we really get ourselves ready for Easter.
We have so many opportunities this upcoming week to experience the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Here is the schedule of events we have here at St. Charles for the Triduum:
On Holy Thursday we have the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00pm followed by adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament.
We will begin Good Friday with Morning Prayer in the Church at 9:00am. This year we will have a priest
available in the Church throughout the day to hear confessions – confession is a great way to prepare our souls
for Easter. We will have an outdoor Stations of the Cross at 12:00pm and our Good Friday Services – the
Celebration of the Lord’s Passion - will begin at 3:00pm. We will then conclude our Good Friday with a
Tenebrae at 7:00pm.
On Holy Saturday we will have Morning Prayer with blessing of Easter food baskets at 9:00am.
And then of course all our Easter celebrations begin with the Easter Vigil at 8:00pm on Saturday night and our
schedule of Easter masses on Sunday morning.
Please come out and join us throughout the week at all these solemn liturgies.

We Are Called To Sanctify
ADORATION CHAPEL Come and receive the special outpouring of God’s grace that many of our parishioners have
already experienced by spending time with Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. Come and be blessed at your
own convenience. The chapel is open from 6AM until Midnight every day except Sunday: Noon to midnight. If you

VOCATION PRAYER CHALICE
Nearly 150 families, including singles and couples have taken the Blessed Chalice into their
homes to pray for vocations once a day for one week. The prayer is furnished. We had one
vocation from our parish in 2014. Several have taken it more than once for a special occasion
in their home. Each weekend, at a Mass of your choice, a parishioner or parish family is called to the sanctuary after
communion to accept the Chalice (or you may take it privately after Mass). The following Saturday the Chalice is
returned to the chapel in Marsh Hall and placed on the altar.

Our transportation ministry has been quite active and a
help to many. If you need a ride call Allyson Cooney

The Outreach program offers meals to needy
parishioners on a short term basis. If you are
recovering from surgery, have an incapacitating illness,
or other problems and are in need of a meal, please call
Kathy McCracken at 829-0563.

CASSEROLES FOR THE HUNGRY – Frozen
casseroles donated on the second Thursday of each
month by St. Charles parishioners are delivered to
Catholic Charities Emergency. Anyone interested
in joining this worthy endeavor, call Cathy Weir at
764-9277.
Next drop off day is April 9th.
Casseroles may be dropped off in the barn any time
between 7am and 9pm. Thank you.
World Meeting of Families
March 2015: Creating the Future
Marriage is meant to be fertile and welcome new
life. Children shape the future, just as they
themselves are shaped in their families. Without
children, there can be no future. Children reared
with love and guidance are the foundation for a
loving future. Wounded children portend a
wounded future. Families are the bedrock for all
larger communities. Families are domestic
churches, places where parents help children
discover that God loves them and has a plan for
each child's life.

ST. CHARLES BORROMEO
TOTS PLAYGROUP
The Tots Playgroup meets every Wednesday from
9:30AM – 11:15AM. The playgroup meets in the
Richard Marsh Center located at St. Charles
Borromeo School and Church at 2500 Branch Pike,
Cinnaminson, NJ 08077. We will have our Easter
Party & Egg Hunt on April 1st. Please bring 10
filled plastic eggs per child to be used in the hunt.
Each child will be able to find 10 eggs in the hunt.
Feel free to stuff the eggs with a small treat,
stickers, or a small toy.
All caregivers (moms, dads, grandparents, etc) are
welcome to attend with children aged anywhere
from infants to 5 years of age. We will have
playtime, snacks, and crafts. No registration is
required. We ask for a $1.00 donation each week
per child and the money is used for supplies and
snacks for the group.

We Are Called to Educate
Spotlight on 1B

As we welcome the season of spring, our first graders have made great strides, and have
come a long way since the beginning of the school year. We continue on our journey
together and work hard each day, as we get closer and closer to becoming 2nd graders!
In Language Arts, many of us have advanced on to reading chapter books. Some of our
class favorites include The Magic Tree House and Junie B. Jones series. We have also
been working in our reading response notebooks, where we’ve been answering
comprehension questions and answering them in complete sentences. We are writing
summaries of each story we read. In addition, penmanship continues to be a focus, and
our progress really shows as we look through our writing portfolios, which capture our
writing for each month! Each day, we also have a student guest reader, who sits in the
rocking chair and reads a story of their choice to the class.
In Math, our developing reading skills have helped us to tackle word problems. We have
also been learning our addition and subtraction math facts to 20. Currently, we are
starting our chapter on geometry. Each day, part of our morning routine starts with a
student lead the class in our calendar math, where we count and exchange money,
regroup straws, and read an analog clock to the minute.
In Religion, we have been learning all about the liturgical season of Lent and how to
prepare our hearts and minds for Jesus. We have also been learning about the seven
sacraments. So far, we have focused on Baptism and First Penance. We have also
learned many bible stories and how to apply Jesus’ teachings

This is a wonderful form of worship during Lent.

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord | Mark 14:1—15:47
In Jesus’ last days, He is scented with perfume, blesses the bread of the First
Eucharist and is arrested, denied, suﬀers and dies.

-INGREDIENTS-
EASTER BREAD (6 single servings)
1 cup milk (scalded)
1/3 cup bu er
(melted in milk)
1/4 cup warm water
1 package yeast
1 tsp. sugar
2 eggs beaten
1/2 cup sugar
pinch salt

Let all ingredients sit
about 15 minutes, add
to ﬂour - mix well
4 cups ﬂour
large bowl
- DIRECTIONS Knead on ﬂoured surface, 10 minutes (add more ﬂour if needed). Rub dough ball with vegetable oil & place in oiled
bowl. Cover and put in warm place to rise, 1 hour or double in size. Punch dough and cut into 6 equal parts (do not
ﬂour surface). Roll each piece into a strip about 15-18” long, place raw, colored egg* in center, bring ends together
and twist. Place on ﬂat baking tray. Brush with egg white and dust with colored sprinkles or sugar. Cover and let
rise, bake at 350° 20-25 minutes un l golden brown.
*Colored eggs - use food coloring dye to color 6 raw in-the-shell eggs. 1 cup warm water, 1 tbsp. white vinegar, 5-6
drops food color. Egg will cook while bread bakes.

socks, e, a new “Easter bonnet” or new
clothes reminds us of our new lives in Christ,
through the resurrec on.
The egg in our Easter bread is also a symbol
of our new life!
