Golf State Bound! Both the Viper Boys and Girls Golf teams advanced from Regionals to State. The Girls team had a
commanding 26 stroke lead at the end of tournament play! Congratulations to Coach Werneke, Coach Ellis and their
student athletes.

Tyler Duncum was first at Regionals and is headed to State! in girls singles. Shwetha Prabakar and Chris McKenzie won
first in Mixed doubles team and will go on to play at state.
VHS FFA S UCCESS !
VHS FFA members Ashley Butz, Lila Ross, and Julia Tate were admitted into TAMU’s Summer Vet Camp
Program. Through FFA, these ladies met the requirement of the logged hours of animal experience by raising and
showing market animals. Hundreds of students apply each year and only 80 are accepted! 100% of those that
applied from VHS FFA, were accepted!
V IPER C HOIR S UCCESS
All 4 choirs that attended UIL this week received sweepstakes awards!This means that the choirs were given an overall division 1 rating in Concert
as well as Sight Reading. A special shout out to the Varsity Men's choir that attended UIL Concert/Sight Reading for the first time and received
straight 1's!!
In the past four years of Region 26 UIL Concert and Sight Reading Vandegrift HS Choir is the only choir program that can say all of their choirs
have received sweepstakes! That would be 13 sweepstakes awards in the last 4 years! This is a huge accomplishment and speaks to the dedication
and skill of our singers! Congratulations Viper Choir singers!!!!
VHS HS F RENCH P ROGRAM R ECOGNIZED
Vandegrift High School has been designed as having an Exemplary French Program, with Honors, by the American Association of Teachers of
French. This designation was based upon: teacher commitment, success rates on AP exam, Spring 2015 exchange with High School in Lille, AP
enrollment, field trips, Fête de l'environnement, French Club and Société Honoraire, service activities, commitment to community engagement
(Relay for Life and others), and great initative to institute Pre AP courses at all levels.

The Vandegrift Academic UIL Team won district this weekend, and will advance to Regional competition.

The VHS Junior/Senior Prom is May 16th at the Bob Bullock Museum. Tickets will be available on-line and at
the school starting May 1st. $55 until 5/11, $65 after that. No tickets sold at the event.
V IPERPALOOZA
AND
S PRING F OOTBALL G AME 2015
What is Viperpalooza? Viperpalooza is a tradition that began in 2010, is a fun-filled event that
includes community involvement, games, food, and activities which culminate in the VHS Spring Football game. The
purpose of Viperpalooza is to raise money for the Vandegrift High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA),
booster clubs, and student organizations. This year we are thrilled to announce the 6th Annual Viperpalooza. This is a
great opportunity for our community to come out and support, meet, and celebrate the coaches, directors, teachers,
students and student athletes of Vandegrift High School.

V IPER B OTS A DVANCE 2 T EAMS TO W ORLD C HAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to ViperBots Stryke and ViperBots QuadX on qualifying for the
FIRST FTC Robotics World Championships to be held in St. Louis, MO, April 21-26.
At the FIRST FTC South Super Regional Championships, QuadX advanced by
finishing 2nd and Stryke advanced by winning the Control Award. At the World
Championships, both teams will be competing against the best 128 teams in the
World. Vandegrift is the only team from Texas that has advanced a team to the
World Championships four years in a row.
Bad Weather Make-Up Day set for April 27: Please mark your calendars to show the designated bad weather make
up day is scheduled for April 27. This day will be a normal school day in order to make up for the classes that were
missed on March 5. For Secondary Schools, this will be a “A” Day
Pep Rally: It has been a challenge to find a day when all programs would be available, but with the addition of the
make-up snow day, we now have a great opportunity to hold a Pep Rally to recognize all of our State Championship
programs and student competitors. Parents are welcome to attend.

Don’t forget to buy your 2015 VHS yearbook online at www.balfour.com. Currently books are available for
$70, but the price increases to $75 after May 1. Students should check the lists posted around the school or the
list posted outside of Mrs. Hammons’ room to see if they have already ordered a yearbook. Reserve a yearbook
online today before they sell out. Yearbooks will distributed mid-May.

A note on graduation 2015: Please remember that the VHS graduations is on Thursday at 8am, June 4th, 2015. We
realize this time-slot will pose some unique challenges for our families. We are currently working on a “student-friendly”
final exam schedule that will allow student and friends and family to attend gradation without missing a final, etc. We will
