March 2015 Welcome Mr. Johnson Bartow Middle’s New Assistant Principal Bartow Middle school News Important Dates 3/ 25—end of 3rd 9 weeks 3/30—4/3 Spring Break Bartow Middle School has a new assistant principal, Mr. Dwayne Johnson. Mr. Johnson comes to BMS with 12 years of experience in both the classroom as well as administration. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and a Master’s in Human Resource Management as well as a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida and Webster University. Media Center Pizza Hut Spirit Night Classes & updates Cafeteria offerings As part of Bartow Middle School’s future, Mr. Johnson plans on being a part of BMS complete turn-around and help move the school forward. He also strives to aid teachers in building a culture of learning that not only increases every student’s opportunity to learn but builds collegial professional learning communities throughout the school. The Find it & Fund it http://www.finditfunditflorida.com/polk/ is an interactive online portal for Polk County Public and Charter School classrooms, which allows teachers to post projects and classroom ideas which need funding and provides an opportunity for members of the community to support local classroom work by making donations towards these requests. Check it out and donate. Better yet, donate and share on Facebook, twitter and Instagram. News from the Media Center Please check your child’s Destiny account for overdue materials. You can do this by going to Bartow Middle School’s webpage and clicking on Media Center. Next, click on the Destiny link. Then, in the right hand column under Middle Schools choose Bartow Middle, next choose Login in the upper right hand corner. Your child’s username is his/her 6 digit student ID#. The password for all students is: justread. Finally, click on the my info tab and you should see any materials your child has checked out in his/her name; including any overdue items from our school, other schools, and textbooks. ***These obligations will follow them all the way to graduation and will have to be paid at that time if not done Washington D.C. Spring Break Trip before then. REMINDER ADVANCED READING Check the school website for current information at http://schools.polk-fl.net\bms If your student is here on an out-of-zone transfer OR if you filled out an affidavit of residence when you enrolled—we will need new forms for the 2015-16 school year. Forms and letters will be mailed out by the end of March to affected families. It is the PARENT’s responsibility to get the forms completed and submitted. Math tutoring is over but you can still participate in the grade recovery system. Contact your Creating Mysteries Ms. Demontmollin’s advanced reading students are creating mystery stories, corresponding to the Sherlock Holmes’ book , Hound of the Baskervilles. Keep checking back for more clues as this mystery progresses. Student samples will be available for viewing (and reading) soon. You don’t want to miss out on some fantastic young authors. Hungry? Want something fast and easy for dinner and support your school at the same time? Then stop at Pizza Hut on Thursday, March 19. The Pizza Hut in Bartow is hosting a spirit night ALL DAY! Shout-Out to Mrs. Harris and her class for volunteering to launder the towels every Friday that help to dry the benches in the morning, so our students have a dry place to sit! Get those positive signatures! coming March 27 a special event you won’t want to miss! You must have a card with the front side full of signatures to participate! Shark Tank is coming soon. Join the millionaire’s club Ms. Trevino, Bartow Middle School Nutrition Manager, and her hard working staff are trying something new for lunch called the “What’s that Wednesday” for the month of March. Students will have the opportunity to sample fresh vegetables and fruits “from FLORIDA farms”.
