There will be prizes for “Science Jeopardy” , dinner, an air rocket launcher, hover craft and wind tunnel demonstration, create a “Biomes in a Bag”, and much, much more. Tuesday, April 28th. Your child may dress out of uniform ONLY if you are purchasing pictures. Students may not wear sleeveless shirts or dresses. Closed toed shoes must be worn and all clothing must be of appropriate length. Don’t miss this exciting event. All the fun begins promptly at 6:00. Hope to see you there! Occasionally we have students that need a change of clothing during the day and the clinic is in need of small size boys’ bottoms (sizes 5-7). If you have any gently used items to donate you can send them in with your child along with a note to the teacher or you may drop them off in the office. FCAT dates and Testing Tips for 5t h g rade FSA and FCAT Testing for our fifth graders is April 14-24. Please make sure to follow the testing tips listed below: *Get a good nights rest-Your child should go to bed on time or early each night before testing. Children should be getting at least 10 hours of sleep each night. *Eat a healthy breakfast– A hot and hearty breakfast will help your child focus on the task at hand. Foods like eggs, oatmeal, pancakes, and peanut butter. *Be present and on time for school– Research shows that students who take make up test are not as successful. So make sure your child is here and on time on test days. Please avoid making appointments for child on these days. We are VERY PROUD of you all and know that you will do an outstanding job on the test! Title I provides several newsletters for parents, students, and teachers to help parents get involved in their student's education. These newsletters are from The Parent Institute. The district Title One program provides a link on their website. The information is available in English and Spanish. They have an Elementary and a Secondary version. This newsletter and website offers such items as a Tip of the Day and School Success Ideas for Parents. Below are the links as they appear on the website. Kindergarten Registration April 6– May 8 Do you or someone you know have a child that is five years old or will be five by September 1, 2015? If you need to register your child for Kindergarten at Sleepy Hill Elementary you have two choices: register online or gather all documents and come into our school office any day between 9:00a.m-1:00 p.m.You will need to bring: original birth certificate, physical done within the past 12 months, shot records, photo ID, and two proofs of residency (both must have current physical address and full name of occupant. ) Step 1-Gather Documents: Category 1-Apartment rent receipt, mortgage document, property tax record Category 2-one CURRENT utility bill (gas, cable, phone, water, cell phone bill) Category 3– CURRENT voter registration card Category 4– PROOF of CURRENT government benefits (Medicare, disability, food stamps, DCF correspondence) Step 2 -Where to go: Register online @ www.polk-fl.net Keyword search: Enroll OR Visit your zoned school to receive registration packet Immunization Requirements for Kindergarten PAGE 2 The State of Florida, Florida Department of Health, immunization requirements for Kindergarten school entry in 2015-2016 are as follows: TWO doses of Varicella (chicken pox) (unless proof of disease) will be required for ALL students entering Kindergarten. In addition, students entering Kindergarten will need five doses of DTaP (Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis) vaccine, four doses of Polio vaccine, two doses of MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella), and three doses of Hep B (Hepatitis B) are required. A Kindergarten entry physical along with the Florida Certificate of Immunization will be required at time of school registration. Please check with your child’s doctor or the Health Department for any questions regarding these requirements. Please, make an appointment with your child’s doctor or Health Department early on as they get very busy closer to August and appointments become more difficult to find.
