District State High School’s graduates
Kate Williams
Early Childhood Development
2005 graduate Kate Williams was a
keen saxophone player at CDSHS
and followed her passion to study
a Bachelor of Music at Queensland
University of Technology (QUT). Upon
graduation she gained a position
teaching music in primary and
secondary schools.
After a few years of teaching, Kate
decided to combine her passion for
music with her interests in health,
wellbeing and science by enrolling
in a Postgraduate Diploma of Music
Therapy at QUT, where she learnt how
to apply music in Psychology, Special
Education and Mental & Allied Health.
Kate worked as a music therapist
before settling into a management
position in music therapy program
Sing and Grow. As National Director,
she was instrumental in growing the
program from a small Brisbane-based
venture into an international program.
Since then, Kate has started her own
music therapy business, completed
a PhD investigating children’s selfregulation development and is now an
Early Career academic.
