Job Title: Academic Affairs Commissioner Length of Term: April 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016 Compensation: $375 per semester of official term Time Commitment: Approx. 5-7 hours/week broken down as follows: 1 hour/bi-weekly attending SGA Senate meetings 1 hour/bi-weekly chairing Academic Affairs internal SGA committee 1 hour/bi-weekly meeting with adviser 2 hours/weekly office hours in the SGA office TBD: serving on campus institutional committees as assigned by SGA President o Academic Affairs Commissioner typically serves on Faculty Senate, Core and/or Curriculum Committees. This committee membership is key to the work of the Academic Affairs Commission and should be treated as such. Other: actively working to achieve the responsibilities and goals of this position outside of the designated office hours as necessary Minimum Qualifications: Minimum GPA of 2.5 before application and during term Effective and professional communication skills Interest in advocating for students’ academic pursuits at Concordia Ability to build professional rapport with the Dean’s Office and faculty of diverse disciplines Positive reputation for class attendance and academic rigor Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with undergraduate research, internships/co-ops, and/or faculty tenure/review processes Experience working with a team of peers, motivating them to achieve goals and holding them accountable for doing so Self-directed and ability to take initiative Job Responsibilities 1. Promote academic excellence 2. Address issues related to academic programs as identified by the student body 1. Work with the SGA Director of Communications to design and implement strategies to gather feedback 3. Serve as an active, participating member of Faculty Senate and Curriculum or Core Committees. 4. Develop professional working relationships with the Dean of the College and Assistant Dean, scheduling meetings as needed. 5. Work with the Director of Undergraduate Research to promote student scholarship and administer the Student Activity Fee money designed for this purpose. 6. Lead and motivate your peers on the Academic Affairs internal SGA committee to achieve platform goals and initiatives related to Academic Affairs. 7. Serve as a liaison to the Career Center to provide student feedback and assistance related to career readiness 8.
