CONCORDIA COLLEGE SUMMER INTERN POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Residence Life Summer Intern position was created to give an exceptional student staff member the opportunity to gain a
broader perspective of the Residence Life department at Concordia. This position is designed to give the intern valuable job
experience for his/her future. Although not necessary, a student who is interested in pursuing a career in Student Affairs would find
this internship particularly helpful in learning more about the field.
Basic Overview
The Summer Intern has two major job responsibilities: Chairing the Fall Training Committee, and acting as Summer Building
Manager for the Bogstad Apartments. In addition, the Intern will also assist with the Conferences and Events team, Orientation,
and other projects as assigned.
The Intern must be a current Residence Life staff member who is returning to staff in the fall.
Administration





Requirements



Chair the Staff Training Committee (plan and facilitate weekly meetings, and follow up with coordinators)
Serve as primary contact for campus and community speakers invited to Fall Training
Assist in development of the Training schedule








Serve as the Residence Life liaison to Summer Programs, Orientation and other campus departments/groups.
Assist in the evaluation of Fall Training
Reserve all rooms necessary for fall training
Maintain all training records and prepare an end of summer report
Meet weekly with Senior Associate Director and Assistant Director
Act as Summer Building Manager for the Bogstad Apartments
Manage the summer housing list, including tracking check-ins and check-outs
Maintain a 2.5 GPA
Time Commitment




Begin your contract at noon, Friday, May 8, 2015 and continue your role until Sunday, August 23 (end of Fall Training);
final evaluations and wrap-up work may occur after August 23
The Summer Intern Position is a full time (40 hours a week) position and should be considered your primary commitment
– the intern is not able to take summer classes or be employed elsewhere.
The Summer Intern will work out of the Parke Student Leadership Center, and will assist with Conferences and Events,
Orientation and other student affairs work periodically over the summer
Make arrangements with the Assistant Director in advance for weekends away (no more than half the weekends each
month), or other time off
Position Benefits





A salary of approximately $4000 (this position is paid hourly)
A single or reduced occupancy apartment at no cost (you may be required to move to a new location halfway through the
summer due to apartment cleaning schedules) – this is an approximate value of $400 a month.
