1. Required Tests
Note: The order in which the test steps are listed reflects the sequence of the certification criterion and does not necessarily
prescribe the order in which the test should take place.
1.1 Send and Receive Health Information Using the SOAP Transport and Security Specification and XDR/XDM
for Direct Messaging
Evaluate the Health IT Module’s ability to electronically transmit (send and receive) health information to a third
party, using the Transport and Security Specification, also referred to as the Simple Object Access Protocol
(SOAP)-Based Secure Transport Requirements Traceability Matrix, Version 1.0, June 19, 2012 and its companion
specification, XDR and XDM for Direct Messaging Specification, Version 1, March 9, 2011.

Technical Outcome
A user can send and receive

the standard specified at §
170.202(c) with the XDR and
XDM for Direct Messaging
Specification with the
standard specified at §
170.202(b).
Test Lab Verification
The tester verifies the health information is sent
and received in accordance with the standard
specified at § 170.202(c) and the standard
specified at § 170.202(b).
The tester verifies the health information is
received from the Transport Testing Tool (TTT)
using SOAP protocols with XDR validation with
both NHIN SAML and TLS selected.
Test Approach
Test Data, Transport
Testing Tool (TTT), and
visual inspection.
Content validation is not
included within this test.
The tester verifies that the Transport Testing Tool
(TTT) validation report indicates no errors for
successful sending and receiving of health
according to SOAP protocols with XDR validation.
