Hello to all Currumbin families, Welcome back. I hope the school

23 April 2015
Hello to all Currumbin families,
Welcome back. I hope the school holidays were restful and you enjoyed sharing time with your
children. We have a few very busy weeks coming up.
Tomorrow, Currumbin Primary School commemorates the centenary of ANZAC. Children can come
dressed in period costume from 1916. The day begins with a ‘Dawn Service’ at 8:15am followed by
round robin ANZAC Games, placing of poppies and a final ceremony including ribbon presentation.
A huge thank you to Mr Lydiard for his amazing effort in organising this event.
Next Tuesday is our Cross Country. We would love to see as many friends and families supporting
and encouraging the enormous effort of our students during this challenging event.
Keeping Our Children Safe
Across the Gold Coast, District Police are regularly contacted by schools and concerned parents in
relation to inappropriate driving and behaviours around school zones. Speed limits, drop-off and
pick-up areas and parking rules exist to keep your children, parents and carers safe. Whilst we
appreciate that the drop off and pick up is a particularly busy time of day it does not excuse
dangerous behaviour that could come with fatal consequences.
Gold Coast Police are constantly patrolling our school zones. Over the next few weeks you will see
an increase in High Visibility Traffic Patrols. So remember the road rules and don’t break them just
to save a few extra minutes. There will be a zero tolerance for any traffic offences during this time.
Yours in Education

A Message from the Chaplain
Hello to all the families of Currumbin Primary School.
My name is Shannon and I am your new Chappy. I am at school every Thursday and Friday. My
office is located just near the old computer labs.
I am a local to Currumbin. I have 2 teenaged sons, and have been a Chaplain for 10 years in many
Gold Coast Schools.
I have loved my time here at school so far. What a great school community Currumbin is.
I can see your child for any reason, whether it be friendship issues to more complex things such as
grief or family breakdown. The Chappy is always a well known, well loved member of a community
and a friend to all. Any time you want to come and have a chat, my kettle is always hot.
I also have strong links with community groups, and can help you and your family with a wide range
of issues. If I cannot help you, I will know someone who can.
I look forward to getting to know you all, and working alongside you to strengthen the amazing jobs
you are already doing as Parents and carers.
Shannon Henderson (Chaplain)
