Principal’s Pen
Dear Parents
Butterfly Wings
Unfortunately our school was the subject of a graffiti incident over the
weekend. It looks like a few adolescent youths were responsible. The
matter has been referred to the Police and they would be keen to hear
from anyone who saw anything suspicious at the school over the
weekend. Students were upset to see the graffiti and many students
spoke to me to say how disappointing it was. As one young girl said
that it was ‘sad for people not to respect our school’. Painters will be at
the school over the next few days to remove the graffiti.
As you drive past the school over the holiday please keep a watchful
eye on our school. If you see anything suspicious call School Watch on
13 17 88 or the Police on 131 444.
The term will end with a rush of activity this week. The Easter Raffle is
drawn today, the Prep Easter Bonnet Parade is on tomorrow morning
and Thursday is the Fluro Fun Run. Thank you for all your support this
term. School will resume on Monday 20 April. I am taking a period of
leave for the first 4 weeks of Term 2 and Mr Holden will be acting
Principal while I am away.

Easter
There was more chocolate in the
staffroom this morning than in the
Easter Bunny’s burrow! This
morning our new P&C President,
Kier Shorey, drew 89 winning
tickets and a record number of
prizes have begun to be delivered.
Thank you to our P&C volunteers
for their efforts and a big thanks to

PREP
We want to thankyou in advance for your
time preparing your child for the Easter
Bonnet Parade tomorrow in the PAC at
9am. Please drop your child off as usual
and head down to the PAC for a seat with a
good view!
All Prep classes have a reminder sheet
about our Reading at Home (sight words
and readers) information sessions in Term
2, Week 2. Please consider coming along
for this very helpful event. Finally, we thank
our families sincerely for supporting your
child and us throughout Term 1. We are
excited about Term 2 and look forward to
plenty of learning and laughter then.
YEAR 1
What a lot of fun Year 1 had making their
musical instruments! There was a lot of
creativity and ingenuity on display. Thank
you for all your contributions parents! To
continue using the skills and creativity Year
1 students have decided to create some
Easter Bonnets in the classroom this week.
On Thursday from 2:30-3pm we will present
our creations in a parade (location to be
advised). Parents are welcome to come.
YEAR 2
Our final week of Term 1 ! We wish you all
a very safe and happy holiday. We look
forward to seeing everyone back ready for
Term 2.
YEAR 3
In Health this term, students have been
learning about what it means to be honest,
caring and respectful. They have been
given moral scenarios and they have
discussed their personal strategies to deal
with difficult situations.
Can YOU Help??
“Need something to do on the
holidays? How about looking
through your toy box to see if you
have any of these things? If you
don’t want them any more Miss
Abbott would love them! She is
working on a project with some of
the Year 5’s for WIN TV and the
Cairns Show. Can you help?
*Plastic cows, horses, chickens,
goats, dogs, cats, birds, fences or
fence parts
*flowers, flower pots or plants
*Match Box cars
*What about an axe or chainsaw?
(small toy size)
Hoping you can help – Please drop
them to the office or give to your
teacher ASAP. Make sure you
don’t want them because they can’t
be returned. The items we don’t
use we will donate to charity.”
Japanese News
Musical Notes
Hosting students from Japan is a great
way for your children to practice the
language they are learning at school,
engage with children from another culture
and share information about their day-today lives. We have found that families who
have hosted students have often kept in
touch and developed lasting friendships.
This year is SENIOR MUSICAL YEAR. With
great delight I would like to announce that this
year we are putting on Peter Pan Jr. A 60
minute musical based on the novel and movie
of Peter Pan. Auditions are open for any
student in Year 4-6. All the
information is up on the music
room window, sign up sheets in
the music room and auditions will
be taking place in the first week
back in Term 2. Its going to be
lots of fun.
Students need to be aware that auditioning for
this musical requires commitment to attend
lunch time, before and after school rehearsals.
Term 2 is a very busy one in the music
department.
Our Senior ensembles and
Junior and Senior Choir will be performing at
the Big Breakfast on Wednesday 20th May
and then at the Eisteddfod on the last week of
term.
Also next Term our Junior Concert Band and
our Training String Orchestra will begin
rehearsing. All students in years 3,4 and 5 who
have begun to learn an instrument this year will
be involved in these ensembles. The Junior
Concert Band will begin in Week 2 on a
Monday morning 7.45am-8.45am and the
Training String Orchestra will be Tuesday first
lunchtime 11am-11.40am.
Information will be sent out via our instrumental
email list and notes home for students in the
Junior Concert Band.
Congratulations everyone on a very successful
Term 1 and have a great holiday.
We are seeking between 10-20 families to
host visiting students from Japan in Term 3
on a voluntary basis. When our students
visit Japan in Year 6, they have the
opportunity to participate in a home stay
experience – what better way to share that
same experience with a child from Japan.
Dates are 27 July – 2 August and 20-23
August. Please contact me by calling the
office or emailing [email protected] if
you would like to register your interest
Did you know? There is a way for your
child to practice and consolidate what they
learn in Japanese class at home. Your
child
can
visit
the
website
www.learningplace.eq.edu.au and log on
securely using their EQ ID and
password. On this site, they can select the
Learning Pathway Access ID: 90244205
to enjoy a range of games, videos and
resources. This is also a great way for
students to consolidate their Japanese
language and cultural knowledge.

Thank you so much to everyone who sold raffle
tickets and those who sent in all the goodies for
our Easter Baskets. Thank you to the helpers
who came in to help us put all the baskets
together. It was a lot of fun. We have been able
to put together over 75 prize baskets. From our
raffle ticket sales we have been able to raise just
over $4,000—which is fantastic. This $$ will be
spent on resources and improvements around
the school for your children.
Next term we will be starting our preparations for the fete. We would
love to have some new people with new ideas come on board—so
keep an eye out for more details.
