Newsletter-Apr-20-2015 - Elimbah State School

Elimbah News & Views
Monday 20 February 2015
Volume 2, Issue 1
Welcome back to what I am sure will be another busy term. I hope
all our families took the opportunity to enjoy the break with quality
family time and activities. It was lovely to be greeted by so many
students this morning around the school who were genuinely
excited to be back at school.
This week our school will be acknowledging the significance of
Anzac Day by sending our School Captains and Vice School
Captions to the Commemorative Anzac Service for Students being
held in the city on Wednesday with Mr Godfrey and hosting our
own school Anzac Ceremony this Friday at 9:00am in the Under
Covered Area. A number of special guests will be in attendance.
Parents are most welcome.
All students and parents are invited to participate in the Caboolture
Anzac March being held on Saturday 25 April 2015. Students and
parents are required to meet at the Home for Returned Soldiers in
full school uniform at 9:15am for a 9:30am start. Please ensure
that students are wearing their hats and that toileting has occurred
before the march. Parents not marching on this day will need to
meet their child/children across the road from the Caboolture RSL
so they can be taken home immediately after the march.
Every day counts is a state wide initiative that aims to assist in
improving student attendance at school through a shared
commitment by students, parents, caregivers, schools and the
community to improve students' attendance at school. Research
indicates that there is a very strong correlation between student
attendance and achievement.
To do this, “Every day counts” promotes four key messages:
 all children should be enrolled at school and attend on every
school day
 schools should monitor, communicate and implement
strategies to improve regular school attendance
 truanting can place a student in unsafe situations and impact
on their future employability and life choices
 attendance at school is the responsibility of everyone in the
community.
At the end of this term I will be writing letters of acknowledgement
to the students that have achieved a 100% attendance rate for
Term 2 2015 and acknowledging the class with the highest rate of
attendance on assembly. Parents please support the school and
your children by making “every day count”.
Have a great week

with Chris Godfrey
Welcome back to Term 2!
I’m really looking forward to working again with our wonderful school community to support our children
in their learning this term.
We have some great opportunities for parents and carers to get involved with school life in the next few
weeks:
Anzac Parade – Friday 24 April – 9am
All families are welcome to join us commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Gallipoli.
Anzac Day March – Caboolture – meet at 9.15am at the War Veterans home for 9.30
start
We would love to see as many Elimbah children and their families at this event – there will be
special performances after the march near the RSL to mark the 100th Anniversary. We ask that the
children march in their uniform, and that parents collect them after the event from outside the
Caboolture RSL.
Under 8’s Morning – Wednesday 27 May
All families of our Preppies, Year 1 and Year 2 children are welcome to join in the fun activities on
this special morning that will culminate in the children participating in the National Simultaneous
Story time
Prep Grandparents Day – Tuesday 26 May
Prep Parent Information Session – Supporting your child’s oral language – week 5
Parent information session – What kind of Learner is my Child? – week 7
I’m looking forward to meeting you at these important community events this term,
Have a lovely week

Mrs King runs our own Bug Club in the
library each morning from 8:30am (except
Wednesdays). We would love to see your

who attend regularly.
At Elimbah State School we have purchased access
NATIONAL
to the home reading program from Pearson called
Bug Club to support your child’s literacy
SIMULATANEOUS
development and reading skills through engaging
STORYTIME
and interactive eBooks.
BUG CLUB
Adding a digital element to our reading program is
valuable as we know so many children enjoy
acquiring knowledge via different media. On the
website is a Bug Club at Home Parents Guide
so that you can support your child’s eBook learning
at home.
Your child’s class teacher has arranged for the
appropriate level eBooks to appear on your child’s
very own personalised bookshelf. The teacher will
be able to see progress made on their class
dashboard and can upload new titles for reading as
the books are read and the activities successfully
completed.
Some helpful hints:



You will see an option for the book to be
read out loud to the students.( speaker
icon )
During early stages of development this is a
valuable tool to use BUT as the student
progresses this option needs to be discouraged
so reading to make meaning becomes the focus.
It would be beneficial for an adult to support the
student as they learn.
This year National Simultaneous Storytime takes place
on Wednesday 27 May at 11am (AEST). Students in Prep
– Year 2 at Elimbah will come together with children in
other schools and venues around the country to listen to
the book The Brothers Quibble written by Aaron Blabey
being read to them.
National Simultaneous Storytime aims to:
·
promote the value of reading and literacy;
·
promote the value and fun of books;
·
promote an Australian writer and publisher;
As this is the same day as Under 8’s, we are hoping that
many parents will be able to stay and join in on the
reading.
ANZAC
DAY
ANZAC Day is this Saturday. To commemorate one
hundred years since the First World War, we have set up
a display in our library. It is designed to honour all the
men and women who have served our nation in uniform
over the past one hundred years. We aim to have every
child add a poppy to the display by Friday.
P & C NEWS
P&C Monthly Meeting
20 May 2015 at 6.30pm - (please note winter start time)
New Faces & Ideas always Welcome!
Hi Everyone!
Hope you all had a great break! It was great to see
so many smiling faces this morning!
Do you want your child/ren to be able to buy
something from The Mothers Day Stall this year? Do
you want to experience their excitement in the gift of
giving? Do you have a Mum, Aunt, Grandparent,
Sister or significant female in your child's life? Do you
want to help raise some much needed money to
benefit your child's education experience? If you
answered Yes to any of these, WE NEED YOU!!
In order for the Mothers Day Stall to go ahead this
year, we need someone to help coordinate it (you
won't get thrown in the deep end!!). Whilst we have
had plenty of people volunteer to help out on the stall
(and I thank you for putting up your hand!) we need a
volunteer or two to oversee the ordering, pricing,
setting up, packing up etc. If we do not get this
person, the Stall WILL NOT go ahead! It's up to you!!
Please contact Taroola if you are able to fulfil this
role! Thanking you in advance!
We still need a volunteer for our Fundraising
Coordinators position. This role can be job shared
between two people. If we do not get a Fundraising
Coordinator, events like our Mothers Day/ Fathers
Day stall, our Carols on the Oval, School Discos etc
WILL NOT go ahead!! And the less fundraising we do
throughout the year, the less money is available for
resources for your children!! Did you know that the
great Undercover Area where your children sit for
Parade and Lunches was funded by your P & C??
Projects to benefit your children don’t happen without
your help! Please contact Taroola if you would like
some more information on what the role entails.
