Autism Awareness Month
We have had a Flying Start to Term 2 at Caboolture East. The two
week holiday has given us all time to recuperate and we are all excited
about the very busy ten week term ahead of us. Our teachers are in full
flight with the National Curriculum programs up and running and
fantastic learning occurring in classes. Parent/Teacher Interviews will be
happening next week, letters to book available times will be sent out
throughout this week.
Caboolture East State School staff and students will again be marching in
the Anzac Parade on Saturday 25 April 2015. Children will assemble at
the water tower near the War Veterans home along King Street at
9:10am where teachers and staff will be standing with the school banner.
Walk off commences 9:30a.m. Caboolture East State School have been
wonderful representatives at this community event, with 127 students
attending last year. Our aim for 2015 is to again increase our
representative numbers at this important commemoration. This is a great
opportunity to show pride in our history, our community and our school.
Please encourage your child/ren to march with the school. Students
must be collected by parents from the car park on the corner of James
St and Beerburrum Rd immediately after the march — approx 10:00am.
Students do not stay together for the official ceremony; however, they
can do so if in the care of parents or carers. Full school uniform is to be
worn, as well as the school bucket hat. Parents will need to bring a water
bottle for them after the march.
Students who do attend will be
acknowledged and rewarded on Assembly. I look forward to seeing you
all there on Saturday.
With the colder weather quickly upon us, it is important that the children
are wearing our warm school uniform. As per the school uniform
policy, the only jumpers/ jackets that are acceptable are those with
the school logo and are available for purchase from the Uniform
Shop at the Tuckshop on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Please make sure that your child leaves the house with the correct
uniform each day. We have a number of options to help families abide
with this policy. If you are experiencing difficulties, please contact me
to discuss these options.

PATHWAY TO GOLD: TERM 2
Term 1 concluded with some 455 students receiving their
Disco reward for attaining a Silver or Gold Behaviour
Certificate. A number of students (61) were also successful
in reaching the Bronze behaviour certificate level. All
students reaching one of these three top levels are to be
commended for their efforts throughout the first term. With
improved consistency many of the Silver and Bronze
earners can work their way into the higher levels of
behaviour.
Students have begun earning their way to the Bronze, Silver
and Gold levels for this term gathering Behaviour reward
points by following the three School Rules, accounting for
their playground behaviour and earning bonus points each
day. We hope to see many more students striving towards
improving on their previous levels and maintaining a drive
towards Gold.
‘MATESHIP DAY’:
Students across Years 3 to 6 have spent today participating
in a range of activities designed to promote the ‘Mateship’
built between the many involved in coming together as
Australia and New Zealand’s armed forces through WW1.
The building of teamwork, tolerance, problem solving and
working towards a common goal are values installed across
the school. Our students have participated in a range of
valuable activities today that focuses on strengthening and
reinforcing this value set. Teachers and staff have worked
collectively to design and implement a program to further
the experiences of our students.
A CAMERA ON GALLIPOLI
This year schools have been able to access some wonderful
resources through the Australian War Memorial with a
school focused presentation on Gallipoli. This presentation
is a digital exhibition entitled ‘A Camera on Gallipoli’
featuring First World War photographs taken be Sir Charles
Ryan.
A camera on Gallipoli showcases a series of 39 candid
photographs captured by Charles Ryan while serving with
the AIF in Turkey in 1915.
The Director of the Australian War Memorial, Dr Brendan
Nelson, says Charles Ryan’s photographs capture the reality
behind the 1915 Gallipoli campaign, depicting a unique and
often harsh view of our soldiers’ experiences.
“Ryan’s photographs reflect the Australians’ true
experience of war, depicting the dry, forbidding landscape,
tired troops in the trenches, and squalid dug-outs,” Dr
Nelson said.
“Ryan also managed to capture the true spirit of the
Australian soldiers who fought at Gallipoli. Their mateship,
stoicism and endurance underpin the photographs and
embody the meaning of the Anzac spirit.”
Behind the photographs in the exhibition is the story of
Charles Ryan’s remarkable life. He served as a doctor with
the Turkish army in 1877–78, treated Ned Kelly at
Glenrowan, was a leading Melbourne surgeon and gave
long service as a senior military officer. He was extended
high civil and military recognition by his peers.
The exhibition is a centenary initiative to commemorate the
centenary of the First World War and accessible to
Australian schools for this year’s centenary.

Welcome back to term 2
I hope you had a happy and safe Easter break and have had time to
relax and enjoy the break from school routines over the past two
weeks and the children are ready for another busy term.
Term 2 will be another busy term, ANZAC day celebrations,
NAPLAN testing for Years 3 and 5 will take place in week 4, cross
country and athletics carnivals. In addition Year 4 has an excursion
to St Helena Island and Semester 1 reports at the end of term are just
some of the events planned.
ANZAC DAY: This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Anzac
tradition and the well documented attack at Gallipoli. Much has been
about Australia’s involvement in the Gallipoli campaign and the
subsequent battles that have occurred since. Each year we pause to
remember those brave members of our military who made the
sacrifice in defence of our country. LEST WE FORGET
NEW BUILDING: The SEP will relocate in the next few weeks to
our new “ Enrichment Centre”. The
finishing touches are in progress,
with air-conditioning in all rooms to
make engagement in learning more
productive particularly during the
summer months. The playground
looks very enticing and I’m sure the
children will have fun in the new
surroundings.
NEW STAFF: This term we will warmly welcome back our Year
3 teacher, Mrs Jaffa Ho who returns from maternity leave. We also
welcome aboard Mrs Jane Bartholomew, a long time employee of
the school who is returning from leave.
The whole school staff acknowledges the dedication to teaching,
support and encouragement given by Ms Louise Hatton who left at
the end of last term and, Mrs Margaret Sherar who will be leaving in
week 3.
NAPLAN: The students have been preparing for NAPLAN testing.
If you have any concerns please talk to your class teacher/SEP case
manager or myself regarding this testing.
National Consistent Collection of Data of School Students with a
Disability (NCCD): All schools in Australia will be involved in the
nationally consistent collection of data of school students with a
disability. This collection process involves a broader range of
categories that exists with the Education Queensland EAP and
verification process. Teachers make adjustments in their planning,
content, assessments, classroom and playground environment to
cater for the diverse needs of their students. The new data collection
will record students who have been identified by a school team as
meeting the definition of disability under the Disability
Discrimination Act 1992 and provided with an adjustment. This data
collection will commence in May with final submission occurring in
August. All parents will be consulted regarding this process later this
term.

Chinese Culture Excursion

Chappy’s Corner . . .

What an awesome term, Term 1 was with lots of different events
and activities in the world of chaplaincy!
On Friday, the 29th of May 2015, our school will conduct a
Chinese culture excursion to the Chung Tian Temple and
Brisbane Chinatown for all Year Six students. All students are
encouraged to participate. This will be a great opportunity for
students to experience and understand Chinese culture and
history. It fits our current strategies for language learning,
based on the belief that language skills and cultural sensitivity
provide important planks for the success of our students in the
world of tomorrow, and allows them to compete effectively in
the globalized workplaces and employment markets of the
future. This will be a very valuable experience for students.

LOTE teacher
I had the privilege of attending Year 6 camp in Week 3; I coached
junior softball for interschool sports; we had a motivational
speaker (TAG you’re it) come in and inspire the Year 5 and 6
students to be generous with their lives; I ran a social and
emotional program for Year 3 and 4 students; I attended and
assisted in the PCYC program for Year 6 students and got to visit
lots of different classrooms across the whole school and assisted in
the life of the school as well as attending the ‘Cab East Surf
Squad’ on the last day of term. What a term!
I am excited to see Term 2 unfold and what challenges present
themselves as opportunities in these coming weeks!
Just a reminder to everyone that Destiny CabEastYouth runs
every fortnight (even weeks) and will be starting up next Friday 1st
May.
This runs in the school hall, starting at 6:30pm and is for ages 10
– 17! Everyone is welcome!

FAMILY PHOTOS: Parents wanting to have their children
photographed together please collect a family envelope from
the school administration and bring the completed envelope
along with your children to the School Hall on Friday, 29
May from 8:00 – 9:00am.
All students MUST be in full school uniform.
During the school holidays the team that runs the youth group on a
Friday night had a ‘hangout in the park’ at Wallace St Park. They
held a free BBQ, face painting, footy and games with about 50 –
60 kids in the youth group and from this school! It was an
awesome time full of fun and a great way to connect with the local
community. Thank you to everyone who attended. Keep your ears
and eyes peeled as this will be happening again during the next
school holidays!
The Chappy Room is open every 1st Break except Mondays.
Students are welcome to come and enjoy the games, music, craft,
Ipads and the company of other students. Active Leaders are here
during these times to assist with set-up and pack down; thank you
to those amazing leaders who do such a great job!
As said, I am excited to be doing this journey with everyone at
Caboolture East State School! Lets make this next term a term to
remember!

Hockey Fields (Buderim) on Wednesday, 29
April to participate in the Sunshine Coast
Regional trials.

PARKING—Parking around schools is limited and some drivers have been parking in the school grounds, on
neighbouring properties (in some instances, blocking driveways) and also in No Stopping/Standing/ Parking
zones, bus stops. These zones are marked with Yellow lines.
Not only are these inconsiderate actions dangerous for our students but they also cause considerable distress to
those who are disadvantaged. Your continued support and respect for others in this matter will be appreciated.
Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 News . . .
Welcome back to Term 2 and what a busy, busy term it is
shaping up to be!! I hope all our students and families had an
enjoyable and well rested holiday break.
It is that time again in which we will be holding our Under 8’s
Day. Preparations for this annual event have begun with the
theme this year being ‘Voices of children – Look, listen, hear and
respond’. Under 8’s Day will be happening on Wednesday 27
May, so keep an eye out for further information.
Next week we will be holding our Junior Cross
Country. Preps will be participating on Wednesday
29 April starting promptly at 9am and Years 1 and
2 will be on Thursday 30 April at the same time.
This is such a fantastic event for our students to
‘have a go’ and participate in. I am looking
forward to cheering YOU all on.
It is super important that all students are arriving at school on
time. There are a number of students who are often late and they
are missing out on important learning that happens at the
beginning of the day. It would be appreciated if parents could
make sure their children arrive on time; we know that when this
happens they are more likely to have a successful learning day.
