Classens Visual Arts Department is made up of skilled artists who poses very dif-
frent styles and techniques. Art teachers, Ms. Stafford, Mr. Sweeney, and Mr. Dyke,
encourage their students to embrace the “one of a kind” value each piece has. Here are
a few art majors who did Classen proud as they captured the hearts of many with their
amazing artwork

But Classen has likely surpassed Coach Malcom Roberts’ early expectations with an 11-1 start, highighted by two tournament titles; one at the Okemah Tournament and the other the Crooked Oak. The Lady Comets now sit at an impressive 16-4 record as they wait for the seeds for playoffs to come out.

Classen won the Okemah Tournament title with a 61-49 win over host Okemah as a new freshman, Taylor Roberts exploded for 24 points, sophomore Kennedy Williams added 14 and freshman Victoria Vickers contributed 10. A 33-17 run in the middle quarters keyed the victory.
The Comets get many of their buckets off steals, and with 142 on the season the team averages Ranked sixth in the state,

Flappy Bird: Rise and Demise
Flappy Bird was a game developed
by Dong Nguyen and was released
on May 24th 2013. Millions of people from all over the world enjoyed
playing Flappy Bird on their iPhones or Android devices. It was a
Bird lived fast and hard. Wherever Flappy Bird is, I’m sure there are bird feeders,
bird baths and there aren’t any green
pipes getting in its way. We won’t move
on from our loss, but we can grow forwards in our memory of Flappy Bird.

side-scrolling game where the player directs a pixelated bird through obstacles of green pipes
to beat their previous high score. Flappy Bird began to achieve success in January of this year
when it topped the free app chart in the Apple App Store and Google Play store. With millions
of downloads, Dong Nguyen was raking in $50,000 a day from the advertisements alone. It
seemed like all was going well for this humble game, but the unthinkable happened. At 11:00am
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), Nguyen announced that he would be removing the game
in 22 hours. Nguyen felt that Flappy Bird was too stressful to keep on the market because he
was being bombarded with messages that were insulting and even received death threats. He
also took the game down because he had originally intended to make a game people could relax
with, but he accidentally created a Frankenstein monster of a game that had tweens and teens
tweaking out when they couldn’t get their Flappy Bird fix. This created a Flappy Bird frenzy.
After the removal, merchants on eBay were selling their phones and iPods that had
Flappy Bird installed for $900 and even more. People were actually spending $900 for Flappy
Bird. FLAPPY BIRD. They spent their hard-earned cash on phones they already had just to
get a game with a ridiculous name. Although Flappy Bird is gone now, we are left with “fond”
memories of yelling at our phones because the pixelated bird flew straight into a green pipe that
looked like it was ripped straight from the programming of Mario. Like James Dean, Flappy

Brooklyn Murder
There were several calls, by a woman, Qiao Zhen Li, intent on warning her relatives that her husband’s twenty-five year old cousin, Mingdong Chen, who had been staying with their family only a few days,
was not acting normally. Before she could get any of her family members to stop by her home in Sunset
Park, Brooklyn, on Saturday October 26th, it was too late. Once the officers were inside the apartment, they
immediately saw thirty-seven year old Qiao Zhen Li, unconscious in the kitchen, next to her five year old
son, Kevin Zhuo, were both being mortally wounded. The bodies of her three other children: nine year old
Linda Zhuo, seven year old Amy Zhuo, and eighteen month old William Zhuo, all stabbed to death with
wounds mainly to the neck and torso, in a rear bedroom, and the man believed to be responsible, Mr. Chen,
with bare feet covered with blood. Police said he had stabbed and slashed the necks and torsos of the victims, but had attempted to suffocate the youngest child before killing the child with a knife.
New York normality appeared to irritate
Mr. Chen, who few neighbors recalled and lived
a broke and nomadic life between Chinatown in
Manhattan, Chicago and most recently, his cousin’s home in Sunset Park. The police mentioned
that Mr. Chen appeared to have stayed with them
before without incident. According to neighbors,
the family did not appear to be better-off than
those who lived around them in their Chinese
community near Ninth Avenue in Brooklyn. They
sent their three school-age children to a local public school, while Ms. Li stayed at home with her
infant William Zhuo.
10
Under interrogation by detectives, conducted in Mandarin, he told of his disillusionment with
life since coming to the United States in 2004 and
of his jealousy toward those who had found success
here. But it remained unclear what provoked him to
turn his rage on his cousin’s wife and their four children.
Mingdong Chen
May Chee, a neighbor of the family and
grew up on the block, said she would often see
Ms. Li outside with her children, who would chase
one another and play with the other children who
live along 57th Street, a block crawling with young
people. “Ms. Li watched over them from her front
stoop, often chatting on her cell phone,” said Ms.
Chee, who also added that the mother did not
speak much English. On the other hand neighbors spoke of having seen the cousin in recent days
standing outside the two-story, two-family home,
smoking cigarettes and talking on the phone.
By: J. Edgar Flores
Relatives of the mother and children who were stabbed to death in their Sunset Park apartment on
October 26 will arrive in New York November 6, from Mainland China. The mother, older brother, and
older sister of thirty-seven year old Qiao Zhen Li, applied for Visas at the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou on
November 4, and booked their flights to New York City as soon as they received their cards. Zhuo Yilin, the
husband and father of the victims, was at work in a restaurant in Long Island at the time of the murders.
His mother and little sister have also applied for U.S. visas, and were expected to fly from Fuzhou some time
later in the week.

Zombie Apocalypse
In the world of gaming, zombie apocalypses have become a popular
theme. In fact, it has probably been overused. They all use the same concept in the gameplay: see zombie, shoot zombie. However, there was an
indie game for PC released not too long ago that brings a whole new style
to zombie apocalypse style games. This game is titled “Nether.” The map,
like its predecessors, features the decaying ruins of some modern metropolis. Details such as rusting cars, pillars of smoke, and collapsing buildings are present. Nothing new there, but we’re not here for the map. The
gameplay adds more of an actual horror aspect than most other zombie
games. When you play, you feel alert and on your toes. There are not zombies at every corner. Instead, the actual enemies are more like alien/zombie
hybrids, that are scattered around, and relatively hard to find. They have
surprisingly good artificial intelligence, and react to noise more than sight.
It is sometimes best to go about stealthly, rather than go in guns blazing at
certain moments. That’s not all though, the game is enabled for online play
so you may team up with a friend, or fight other players. No matter what
you do, the game remains action packed and full of adventure. I definitely
recommend it for any apocalypse-loving gamers.

FINEST FADE FEB HAIRCUTS
As the warmer nights fade and the days
shorten, our sense of style will change –
and we will have to make our hairstyles to

practicality or one might desire the refreshing breeze of change. Men’s hairstyles
are not like women’s. Women’s hair trends
are short lived sometimes, often lasting no
more than a year. On the other hand, men’s
hairstyle trends evolve slowly. For the fall,
men should have a more faded look more

Drab to Fab
Have you ever been on a social network site, *cough cough Instagram* and you’ve seen someone
post a #transformationtuesday picture? I know you have! After you see how good God has been
to them you begin to cry because you haven’t even left your baby face years, I know the feeling.
But have no fear, that’s what makeovers are for! Movies can help with this issue as well. What
better than quality movies with the best makeovers? Here’s a list of movies that make us want
makeovers!
CLUELESS: TAI
A new student, Tai Frasier, a “tragically unhip” slacker-type who wears
oversized flannel shirts and has maroon-colored hair, is transformed by
the most popular girl in school — Cher, who “lives for makeovers.” Cher
and her BFF Dionne turn Tai into a “total Betty,” complete with a new
‘do, a new wardrobe, and a new attitude.
GREASE: SANDY
For Sandy, summer lovin’ with Danny Zuko happened so fast — but it
still wasn’t as speedy as her physical transition into a bona fide hottie.
She shows up at the end of the movie in black leather pants, a tight crop
top, and voluminous curls, what else does a guy want?
BREAKFAST CLUB: ALISON
‘’Basket case’’ Allison, one sixth of a band of teens serving a weekend
detention sentence, found an unlikely friend in pretty girl Claire. Growing
up can be painful—like growing out your bangs. But Claire takes Allison
from freak to chic by pulling her hair away from her face and teaching
her one totally genius lipstick trick.
Where is Paulo? I’m ready for my makeover! While she struggles with
the decision to take her rightful place on the throne, Mia certainly looks
the part after a take-no-prisoners transformation by Italian hairstylist
Paolo. She turns from a total not to a total hot!
SHE’S ALL THAT: LANEY
Laney, a teen rom-com is pretty, but her good looks are overshadowed
by her dorky glasses and mismatched outfits. She doesn’t seem to care
what other people think, though -- until popular jock Zack Siler shows
an interest. After betting his friends that he can transform her into prom
queen material, Zack persuades his sister to give her a chic new makeover.

Breakfast for Champs
Ingredients:
• Three Eggs (Large)
• One Tablespoon of Butter
• Two Tablespoons of Heavy Whipped Cream
• Four Tablespoons of Shredded Cheddar Cheese
• One Teaspoon of Salt
• One Teaspoon of Pepper
By: Jules Deberry
To prepare an omelet, you must have the best consistency and lightness. You will need eggs, salt, pepper, and heavy whipped cream in a blender. Blend these ingredients together until they are mixed well and frothy.
Next, you will need to heat a small pan over the stove at medium heat.
When the pan is hot, place the one tablespoon of butter into the pan, stir,
then smother the entire inside of your pan with that butter. Pour the omelet mix into the pan. Make sure the mix isn’t covering the walls of the pan
because you’ll want the omelet to be as even as possible. Mix the eggs very
lightly and make sure you don’t scramble them. Pat the eggs with a spatula,
remember, you can make sure the ingredients remain even. The eggs will
begin to cook when the omelet looks almost solid. Carefully slide the spatula under one half of the omelet and fold it over. Turn off the burner and
let the heat from the pan cook the egg for a few more seconds. Top the omelet with the four tablespoons of shredded cheddar cheese. Enjoy!

A big factor in this competition depends on the controller. Both controllers are keeping it traditional but
the PS4 is implementing DualShock4 which gives it a huge lead in terms of features. The controller also has a
new touchpad and light bar to add interesting new layers to game play while the new share button will help make
console gaming more social.
Each system is said to be coming out with five exclusive launch titles. The Xbox One exclusive titles
include: Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, LocoCycle, and Killer Instinct, while the PS4’s
titles include: Driveclub, DC Universe Online, Warframe, Knack, and Killzone: Shadow Fall. These are all great
titles but the winner goes to the Xbox One due to its better mix of titles that will pull in Xbox veterans and newcomers.
Finally it all comes down to pricing. The Xbox One will cost $499 while the PS4 costs $399. The reason
the Xbox One is priced $100 more than the PS4 is because it comes with the Kinect 2 while the PS4 doesn’t come
with its PlayStation Eye, but even if the Eye price was included it would still cost less than the Xbox One because
the PlayStation Eye only costs $59 giving the PS4 the win.
I hope this information helps you to choose the system you want, although the PS4 won most of these
competitions the Xbox One is still a strong runner up and is a popular choice for millions.

It’s finally that time of the year my fellow gamers! The next gen consoles have finally been released. The
PS4 came out November 15th while the Xbox One came out November 22, as this is great news it can also be
interpreted to be quite a problematic situation. The question arises “Which console should I get first?” If you
haven’t been able to come to a conclusion over this question it’s no big deal, I am here to help.
First let’s talk about the designs of these new consoles. The Xbox One is compared to looking like a 1980s
VCR, but it also has some good things about it like its smooth glossy and matte plastics, brushed finishes and a
striated grille to give it that bold looking style. When talking about designs in general the winner goes to the PS4
due to its slim figure that is said to have a smaller footprint than the Xbox One.

NATURAL SELECTION
Natural selection is vital to nature. It is the foundation of evolution. Without it, any species is
doomed to fail. In human society, there used to
be many cases of natural selection as with any
other species. People learned how to survive, and
we adapted to our environments. We continued
to evolve until we became the most intelligent
species on earth and continued to evolve. Now,
in the present day, a problem has come to light.
In the past, the unintelligent could not survive.
They would either learn or they would die. This
would single them out from the intelligent. This was natural selection. Now we live in a world
with safety labels and laws. This creates a bubble-wrapped environment where the unintelligent
are protected from themselves. Natural selection no longer occurs, meaning no one learns, no
one is hurt, no one adapts or evolves. Everywhere you
look, you see: “Caution – High Voltage,” “Warning –
Contents are Hot,” and “Do Not Put Fingers in Cage.”
This should all simply be common sense. One should
know not to touch the stove. People learn when they’re
little that if they touch the stove, it burns them so they
never touch it again. This is becoming a lost concept.
People no longer learn. They depend on someone else
to protect the under-evolved. No one learns, no one
develops crucial life skills, humankind inevitably devolves. The child stays on training wheels forever, but
one day, sometime along the road, what happens when the training wheels fall off? What then?

Bats are considered to be related to witches curses and vampires.
Flying through the sky at night or sleeping in dark places at day. I have
recently found out that there are these creatures known as flying foxes that
can have a wing span of 5 ft. 7 in. These creatures are the largest one of the
largest species of bats known to man. Flying foxes live in the subtropics
of Asia, Australia, and
Indnesia. The flying
foxes are near extinction
because they are hunted

Driving on ice is an acquired skill that takes experience and patience.
Learn to become a master safe driver with these tips!
1. DRIVE SLOW! Reacting to sliding is way easier when you’re going slow.
2. LEAVE SPACE IN FRONT OF YOU. It’s recommended that you leave
3x as much space between you and others cars than normal.
3. BRAKE GRADUALLY. On roads that aren’t icy braking last second isn’t
that big of a deal, but on ice with the possibility of sliding it’s a big deal!
4. IF YOU DO START TO SLIDE, DO NOT SLAM ON THE BRAKES!
Slamming on the brakes only makes you slide farther.
5. BE VERY CAREFUL ON BRIDGES. There isn’t earth under the road to
heat it up, so even when ice has melted everywhere else bridges might still
have ice.
6. If you get stuck don’t spin your wheels. Shift your car into neutral and
get out to push your car out of the ice.

The earliest recorded festivities in honor of New Year’s arrival date back 4,000 years
to ancient Babylon. The first new moon following the vernal equinox heralded the start of a
new year. The Babylonians marked the occasion with a massive religious festival called Akitu
that involved different ritual on each of its eleven days. In addition to its eleven days, Akitu
celebrated the mythical victory of the Babylonian sky god Marduk over the evil sea goddess
Tiamat and served an important political purpose. Why does January first become the New
Year? The early Roman calendar consisted of ten months and three hundred and four days,
with each New Year beginning at the vernal equinox.
According to tradition, it was created by Romulus, creator of Rome, in the eighth
century. Later, Numa Popmiliusis credited with adding the months Januarius and Februarius. Then in forty-six B.C., the emperor Julius Caesar thought that the calendar fell out of
sync with the sun over the centuries. As part of his reform, Caesar instituted January the
first as the first day of the year. Mainly to honor the month’s namesake, Janus, the Roman
god of beginnings whose two faces allowed him to look back into the past and forward into
the future. Romans celebrated this tradition often by offering sacrifices to Janus, exchanging
gifts with one another, decorating their homes with laurel branches and attending raucous
parties.
In many countries, New Year’s celebrations begin on the evening of December thirty
first, and continue into the early hours of January first. In Spain and other several Spanish-speaking countries, people bolt down a dozen grapes, which symbolize hopes for the
months ahead- right before midnight. Ring-shaped cakes and pastries, a sign that the year
has come full circle, round out the feast of Netherlands, Mexico, Greece, and many more
countries

The King of Gore
On Wednesday November 6th, paleontologists unveiled a new dinosaur discovered
four years ago in southern Utah. A full skeletal replica of the carnivore was on display at
the Natural History Museum of Utah along with a 3-D model of the head and a large painted mural of the dinosaur roaming a shoreline. This was the public’s first glimpse at the
new species, which paleontologists spent the past four years digging them up and traveling the world to confirm they were a new species.
The fossils were found by a seasonal paleontologist technician for the Bureau of
Land Management who climbed up two cliffs and stopped at the base of a third in the national monument. These fossils were found in a southern Utah rock formation that also has
produced the oldest-known triceratops, named “Diabloceratops,” and other dome-headed
and armored dinosaurs. Only about 10 percent of the rock formation has been battered
by natural forces according to paleontologists, leaving about 1 million acres of cretaceous
rocks that could be holding other new species of dinosaurs.
Between 70 and 95 million years ago, the area that makes up Utah belonged to a
continent called Laramidia. The landmass was bordered to the east by a shallow sea that
had flooded the North American continent during the Late Cretaceous Period. The new
species, called Lythronax argestes (LY’-throw-nax ar-GES’-tees) – “the King of Gore” of the
American Southwest – is related to the predated T. Rex by around 10 million years.
34
Experts believe this species developed about 10 million years before the T. Rex appeared, putting it
at around 80 million years ago, the King of Gore’s range may have been limited to Laramidia, a continent
known for its unique dinosaurs and seclusion from other landmasses. This landmass is famous for the
horned and duck billed dinosaurs that eventually developed here that are known for being the T. Rex’s
prey.
This new dinosaur was a bit smaller than the Tyrannosaurus rex but was still similar. It was 24 feet
long, 8 feet tall at the hip, and was covered in scales and feathers. Its skull is designed for grabbing something, shaking it to death and tearing it apart. Tyrannosaurs lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, and produced species that reached the peak of the food chain at the time. Among these natural-born
predators, Lythronax argestes showcases a series of exclusive traits that probably made it extremely dangerous to its prey. Its snout was shorter and narrower than that of a T. Rex, while the back of its skull was
rather wide. The width of the back of the skull of Lythronax allowed it to see with an overlapping field of
view, allowing good perception of depth, giving it the binocular vision which is very useful for a predator
and a condition we humans are associated with.
by: J. Edgar Flores
Researchers now believe that the isolation of Laramidia may have contributed to the appearance
and enlargement of numerous dinosaur species not found anywhere else. They now plan to continue
investigating the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in hopes of finding more fossils seeing
as the discovery was made at a dig site in November 2009, within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM), in southern Utah, by experts with the Natural History Museum of Utah and the
University of Utah. The team worked closely with colleagues from universities around the country for this
study.
From those cretaceous rocks twelve other new dinosaurs were found and are waiting to be named.

Cold Weather Clothing Shopping, On a Budget!
The weather’s starting to turn frosty and your lightweight cottons just aren’t
cutting it anymore. It’s time to get yourself in some real winter clothes so
you stay warm this season. Here’s how to do it without breaking the bank:
For days that aren’t as seriously cold, layering is always a good idea. Bulk
up with long sleeved shirts from Goodwill. Use the shirts that you already
own layered on top of a simple solid color long sleeved shirt.
sweater for as little as $8. These can be
worn over anything and will keep you
warm through howling winds.
Shoes can be trickier to find at thrift
shops if you have an uncommon size.
Be sure to pick up some thick socks,
as these can make up for thin shoes. It
may be wise to invest in some thicker
boots for the season. Walmart is, yet
again, a good option but these shoes
might not last the whole season if worn
frequently. Quality sometimes wins out
to cheap as you can end up spending
more on multiple pairs of cheap shoes
than you would on decent quality
shoes.

winter, use these tips to stay nice and

As far as serious coats go, Walmart and Target have wonderful, warm options for as little as $20. These coats will last you the whole snowy season.

Ghost Art
Classen SAS was once a true museum of history. Every hallway you walked down
had art from past generations. This art was truly amazing. It gave the school an ancient
and mysterious vibe which captivated the eyes and stunned all that entered its doorways.
However with the new maps program that happened two years ago much of that art is
now lost. The outlines of these great works of youthful art can still be seen if one looks
very hard at the white paint that covers them. However there are some remnants of murals and art works that have found a way to go unnoticed by only those who would not
appreciate them. In a way this is a blessing, these art pieces are the ghosts of past alumni
and students who wanted to leave a mark that future generations can ponder and ask the
question. What does this mean? With eyes filled with wonder, those who are clever and
perceptive enough will find these pieces, and those memories made by past artists, will
live on in the wonder they inspire to this day.
This concept has been adopted and taken upon by the school art department who
has started their own ghost pieces as well as refurbishing the old murals to their former
glory. When asked many art majors and regular students were saddened by the cold white
walls; however an interesting view point was given by our very own Mr. Payne. Mr. Payne
said that there are two kinds of art, temporary art and historical art. He said “temporary
art is something that comes and goes”. He also said that even though the artwork was
amazing, the white walls must be set aside for future generations to make their mark.
The historical art that represents us as creative individuals must obviously stay as
art, GOOD art that must always change. Art is a living breathing entity here at Classen
SAS. Whether you can hear it, see it, or feel its overwhelming presence throughout the
hallways. Classen will always be known for our knack to change beautifully.

How Friday the 13th started...
Friday the 13th 1307 was the day Pope Clement V and King Phillip IV of France had the
Knights Templar massacred.
The Knights Templar was a
Holy Order dedicated to
protecting the Church. It was
believed that the Knights had
accumulated a vast treasure
that included a number of
sacred objects including the
Holy Grail. The Grail is
believed by many Christians to
be the cup from which Jesus
Christ drank from the night
before his crucifixion.
`
The Knights Templar also used their enormous wealth to act as a bank for the crowned heads of
Europe during the Middle Ages. To finance a war with England Phillip borrowed money from
the knights. Financial backing from the Knights did not help Philip who was a weak king and
no military commander. England defeated France leaving the country and its king in poverty. Philip, in league with Pope Clement came up with a plan to accuse the Knights Templar of
dreadful acts against the Church including heresy and worshipping false gods.
On Friday Oct. 13th 1307 all of the Knights Templar were rounded up and imprisoned.
They were charged with Satanism and a number of other “unnatural” practices. Many of the
Templars were tortured into confessing their crimes and then killed. Others were killed for refusing to own up. Philip’s men tortured and killed the Knights in a manner similar to the Spanish Inquisition. A popular method for dealing with the Knights was to have them burned at the
stake.
By: Draven Perales
For centuries, Friday the thirteenth has been known for bad luck. Many people believe
that this day is cursed and in an almost Halloween like atmosphere there are spooky tales about
misfortunes that have taken place on this day. But what is the real Friday the 13th?
The things that took place on Friday Oct. 13, 1307 have more to do with a shift in political power and a desire not to pay back loans than any curse.

Oreo Treats
Ingredients:
•
1 (or 2, depending on how much you plan to make) packet of plain Oreos
•
Stick of cream cheese
•
Almond Bark chocolate
Materials:
•
Large bowl
•
Cookie tray
•
Stove pot
•
Large & regular spoon
•
Gallon size Ziploc plastic baggies
•
Wax paper
How to:
1.
First, place package of Oreos into a Ziploc bag, and
get rid of any air in the bag, then seal tightly.
2.
Take the large spoon and crush the Oreos until most of the big chunks are gone. This
works best if you place the bag on top of a counter and bang the spoon onto the bag.
3.
Put the crumbs and pieces out of the bag into a large bowl, along with the stick of cream
cheese. Start to mix the cream cheese and Oreos together with your hands inside the bowl, this
can get a little messy. Be careful not to get any on your clothing!
4.
Next, put a piece of wax paper on a cookie tray. Now roll the Oreo and cream cheese mix
into round balls and place onto the cookie tray.
6.
After all the Oreo balls are covered in chocolate, put the tray back into the refrigerator.
Take them out when the chocolate has hardened.
7.
44
Now you’re done, enjoy!
By: Paige McCown
5.
Put the cookie tray into the refrigerator for about 2 or 3 hours. While you wait for those,
take a double boiler and place it on the stove heating it to about medium heat and place the
chocolate into the pan. After the chocolate is completely melted, the Oreo rounds should be
ready, take them out of the fridge and dip each one into the chocolate using a spoon. I recommend just placing the chocolate covered ones back onto the tray for convenience.\

ave you ever asked yourself, “Why?”
as your strolling around school lifeless? Why do I have to
be so down and frown? Well what if I told you there is a
way for Classen SAS students to be happy and outstanding, making walking through hallways fun again. That’s
were NED comes in! Ned is a forty-five minute program
steadily based to help student achieve stimulation through
a simple yet conservative play toy, yes I said it, PLAY TOY.
Don’t get it confused now, I’m talking about the the ever
so classic “yo-yo”. Ned’s name represents an acronym for
Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.
Teachers love that NED is simple, relatable, and kid-focused. Well guess what, it can be said in only two little
words “YO YO”. Who would have thought that it would
be a simple piece string wrapped around two plastic circles. Every young student needs a well-balanced, educated
pass time, and what could fit the description better than a
yo-yo? This is stimulating for a young student such as you.
I mean just look at the facts, a yo-yo can only be operated
by using clever thinking skills that when you are busting
out cool tricks on your yo-yo, you are using geometry.
If you haven’t seen or heard of NED,
check it out. Keep your young mind
stimulated!

Welcoming New Ladies in Power, Rocking the Pant Suits
This year at classen we are welcoming four new classen office staff members, Mrs. Tammy the finical secretary Ms. Okeke attendance clerk, Ms. Attaway the register and Dr. Davis our new principal. These women have three things in common; they love being here, they’re sassy and can seriously rock a pant suit!
Mrs. Tammy worked at a middle school for five years before she made the move to Classen. She loves how welcoming we are, she also loves walking through the halls and hearing beautiful music all around her from the orchestra, guitar, band, piano and vocal majors and seeing the amazing performances from dance and the drama departments.
Mrs. Okeke also worked at a middle school before her transition to Classen, “the Classen experience is so warming and amazing!”She said.. She loves working here because it’s her Alma Mata not to mention her son is also a Classen graduate! She loves the students and how unique we are as a whole.
Ms. Attaway worked for DHS for 30 years before retiring and then went and worked at ICMS before she came to classen! Both her mother and aunt went and graduated from classen so she knew it was a well respect

Do you have a talent you would like to share
with your community? The Classen Star wants
to find artists of any age and any style in Oklahoma! Musicians, singers, sculptures, painters,
digital artists, filmmakers, you name it! Every
month a new face will be plastered on this
page, it could be you! Perhaps a friend, loved
one, or relative could need some publicity on
their art! Support your community! Support
local art!
This month, our featured artist is Luke Modrall
of Oklahoma City. He is also known as his rap/
hip-hop stage name “The Motiv.” His name may
sound familiar, for he is a former Classen
student!
50
Modrall’s musical career began when he was accepted into Classen SAS in sixth grade; he would
then go on to graduate high school in 2012. Throughout his years at Classen, he worked with
Matt Denman as a classical guitar major, heavily falling in love with music. By his
freshman year, Modrall knew he wanted to work with music in the future; he began to search
for music gigs. As he transitioned into his sophomore year of high school, he favored Hip Hop/
Rap. “Listening to words flow in such a style really intrigued me so I started writing rhymes
for fun and decided to write and perform a song for Classen’s Talent Show alongside my
classmate Max Perkel,” said Modrall. The audience applauded the two for that they followed
through on the performance alone. Modrall’s music career skyrocketed to new heights. His
skills in music grew as he did in age; he picked up playing the piano and mixing music. He began
to get contacts with producers and other artists for his music to be known to the public. By his
junior year, an Engineer from ACM@UCO had a listen to some of Modrall’s work, and decided to
work with this new upcoming artist. The two may not work together as of late, but it created
a new perspective about music for Modrall.
I asked him what is his inspiration to be in music, he responded; “I listen to every kind of music
you can think of, it’s all beautiful in its’ own way. I guess you could say I get inspiration from music for what it is. How it affects human beings, how it impacts our lives, that’s what inspires me
to create. On the other hand I guess I could tell you that J. Cole is an artist that really inspires
me to write. Listening to his music makes me feel very lyrically driven.”
On the other hand I guess I could tell you that J. Cole is an artist that really inspires me to write.
Listening to his music makes me feel very lyrically driven.” Modrall’s lyrics create a powerful
energy when he talks about some strong points about being an adult and surviving out of high
school.
I also asked him what he what he would do if his music were to become famous, “Make sure my
message and my purpose is reached by the masses… I just want it to make people happy in some
way and, say they love the art I’ve created. I plan on proving my skill and, music knowledge here
in our artistic community.”
We, as Classen SAS, are proud to say our school is producing individual artists every day. Modrall
is an encouragement for all of us to never stop doing what you love. Keep up the good work!
You’re a fantastic performer, and a great guy. It was good to meet you, thanks for the

Lucid Dreaming
by: Bevin D. Coker

When we sleep, we dream. Our minds create an interactive environment for us to explore as we rest. Dreams are very complicated, as we still
have much to learn about them. There are things we do know, however. We
have learned ways to hack into our own dreams and control them. We have
unlocked the door to lucid
dreaming.
The hardest part of lucid dreaming is realizing you are in a dream.
When you’re awake, you can easily distinguish reality from a dream. When
you think back on a dream, you discover the flaws of the dream, what
makes it different from the real world. You don’t realize these flaws while
you’re in the dream, whatever happens may seem normal. The trick is to
teach yourself how to see these differences. The best way is by habit.
For example, in the “real world”, try making this a habit to do something simple periodicly, maybe examining a picture or sign, looking away,
and looking back again. The dream usually is not stable enough to keep
the exact same image, meaning the image will change. If you perform this
habit enough in reality, you will remember to do it in your dreams. When
you’ve trained yourself to see, your lucidity should be triggered. Almost
any simple habit will work, just as long as you know what to look for. Another example is to count your fingers, if you can do while conscious, you
will begin to memorize your hand. Then in a dream, you can place things
that are wrong with your hand.
Another helpful tip for lucid dreaming is whenever you wake up from
a dream, write it down in detail, or keep a dream journal. This will help
you learn about your dream, recognize details in your dreams to trigger
lucidity, and help you remember your dreams frequently. If you cannot
remember your dreams, it seems as if you had no dreams at all. This is because it is all in the mind as a type of memory, but not something that actually happened in reality. There are many other methods to use to trigger
lucidity, find one that works best for you.
Once lucid, you have a different universe to explore and manipulate.
With the power of thought, or asking out loud, you may do what you wish.
You can do anything from reliving old memories, having new adventures,
and even asking your dream questions. Ask your dream what your ideal
career or your purpose in life is. The answers may surprise you. I strongly
urge anyone interested in lucid dreaming to research on this topic much
more. There is a whole new world out there waiting for you to come and
have a look around.
