PEGGY KOTAR
Margaret ‘Peggy’
(Reichert) Kotar
‘Miss Margaret’
Sept. 11, 1936 – June 21, 2014
Mom lived her life and
she died with dignity as
well as grace. Mom always said her greatest
accomplishment was being a mother and grandmother. We all say job
well done. Mom taught
us to always have an open
heart, for if you have an
open heart you always can
love and forgive. Money
never mattered; it was
the time spent with the
ones you loved. Education
was extremely important
to Mom and to see her
granddaughter follow in
her footsteps as a teacher
gave Mom great joy. Mom
always believed in paying
it forward, and per her request, she has asked that
in lieu of flowers or donations please pay it forward
as each sees fit.
Condolences may be
sent to Victoria Kotar
Lang and family at:

Billings, MT 591027045
Mom, it has been an
honor to be your daughter.
I’m so glad God chose you
as my mom.
Till we meet in heaven
with all of my love,

Samuel Pendill
Montana lost a true
cowboy and heaven has
gained one. Samuel J.
“Sam” Pendill died peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 22, 2014.
He was born March 3,
1927, in Dawson, N.D. He
was the third of six children born
to Samuel
M and Inga
(Hemming)
Pendill.
He lost his
mother due
to
illness
when
he
was only 7. SAM PENDILL
He went to
school through the eighth
grade, at which time he
decided to stay home and
help on the family farm.
He was always an honest,
fair, hard-working man.
In his day, he was one of
the best crane operators in
Montana.
Sam married the love of
his life, Margaret Kopp, in
1948. After their fi rst child
was born, they headed west
to Montana to conquer
the world. While working
construction full time, and
working his cows on the
weekend, he still managed
to build the house his family would grow up in. In his
spare time, he raised six
children: Ronnie, Linda,
Eugene, Colleen, Donna
and Sammy. He always had
a love for cows and a dream
of having his own place in
the country someday. In
the meantime, he had his
small herd he pastured out
and worked with on the
weekends.
Sam’s dream became
a reality after most of his
children were grown and
gone. He and Margaret
were able to buy a farm
near Garryowen, where
they would spend the rest
of their lives. He was always happiest when he
was working with the livestock.
Sam was preceded in
death by his wife, Margaret, who was taken from
him suddenly in 2004, and
his son Ronnie, whom he
lost to cancer. He was also
preceded in death by his
mother Inga, father Sam,
sister Melvina and brother
Jim.
He is survived by his
brother Gordon Pendill,
of Billings; sisters Marian (Delvin) Dugan, of
Mandan, N.D., and Annie Roemmich, of Florida;
daughters Linda (Glen)
Mcleland, of Great Falls,
Colleen (Daryl Gylten)
Whalen and Donna (Joe)
Schabarker, of Billings;
sons Eugene Pendill, of
Billings, and Sammy Pendill of the family farm in
Garryowen. He had 13
grandchildren and numerous great- and great-greatgrandchildren.
Funeral service will
be Thursday, June 26, at
2 p.m. at Smith Funeral
Chapel, 925 S. 27th St.,
Billings, MT. Interment

Florence Rose McCarvel
March 7, 1921 – June 10, 2014
SAN JOSE, Calif. —
Florence Rose Kuffner
McCarvel died peacefully
on June 10,
2014, in San
Jose
after years of
struggling
with
Alzheimer’s.
Florence
was
born
FLORENCE
on
March
MCCARVEL
7, 1921, in
Anaconda
— child of immigrant Croatian parents. Hers was a life
carved by the ideals and
celebratory nature of her
ethnic heritage: hard work,
good food, Tamburitza
music and lots of love. She
taught in one-room school
houses before marrying
her high school sweetheart,
John (Jack) McCarvel, in
1943. They shared 59 years
together and raised seven
children. Florence’s foremost gift was as a homemaker and mother, but she
gave generously of her spare
time to school and church
activities. The greatest joy
of her life was time spent
with her family.
Florence was preceded
in death by her husband
Jack and daughter Kathie
Grmoljez. Survivors include children Carol (Kirwin) Werner, Ronan; Tom
(Janeen) McCarvel, Helena; Mary (Rich) Helgeson, Billings; Becky (Paul)
Gillick, San Jose; John
(Paula) McCarvel, Denver;
Patty Pimentel, Henderson, Nev.; son-in-law Dr.
Paul Grmoljez, Billings; 20
grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service to
celebrate Florence’s wonderful life was held in San
Jose and burial in Anaconda. Memorial contributions
can be sent to the Kathie
